Hua auditioned for the television talent competition Super Boy in 2013, which was produced by Hunan TV, just before graduating from conservatory. He performed his original "Lyricless Song" on his first appearance to the audience, giving him the appearance of a "Martian" for his unique expression. Two of the three judges regarded him as odd or bizarre, but after third judge Laure Shang asked him a few questions and performed a lyricless duet with him, she said, "he is a genius." "He knew instinctively how to express emotions by music." Hua made it through the first round of auditions after Laure Shang's recommendation and his appearance on "The Kill." In the final round on September 27, 2013, he performed with Laure Shang the song "The Star." Chenyu Hua was crowned the 2013 "Super Boy" competition.

Hua was signed to EE-Media, China's largest entertainment company, where the majority of Super Boy and Super Girl contestants are linked. Quasimodo's Gift, a short film starring Hua, was released on November 11. Both "Quasimodo's Gift" and "Ashes From the Fireworks" were included in the film, bringing the music and the story together. The songs' music videos were deleted from this short film. For several weeks, the Taiwanese version of this album debuted at number one on the Taiwan Five Music Chart. Several awards, including ERC Chinese Top Ten Awards for Best Album, Best Album Performance, and Best Album Production, as well as Best Composition, were given for the track "Let You Go" by ERC Chinese Music Awards for 2014 Best Album, Best Album, and Best Album Production, including Best Album Design and Best Album Production, China Music Radio Awards for Best Composition, and Best Album Production. On June 10, the first episode of the show was launched live on YouTube. Hua was announced ambassador of Estee Lauder China on July 13.

On October 13, 13 and 14 in Beijing, the 2017 Mars Festival was held. Just one of the concert dates was live online, and it attracted more than four million viewers. In the second season of The Next, Hua remained as a celebrity mentor and judge alongside Karen Mok, Fei Yu-Ching, Yang Kun, and Jason Zhang.

Hua appeared on Singer 2018 (2018) alongside Jessie J, Wang Feng, Tengger, Angela Chang, KZ Tandingan after turning off the performance for three years. "I Really Want to Love this World," composed by Hua Chenyu, was the first release on NetEase Cloud Music on December 4.

Hua Chenyu's first performer on Hunan TV's "2019-2020 New Year's Eve" dropped to 2.7 percent on January 1, 2020, although the market share increased to 30.85%.

He was crowned one of the four returning singers from the fourth to sixth seasons to attend in Singer 2020: Year of the Hits (), the series's final season. Hua performed mainly self-composed songs, including Seven Personality, a progressive rock he wrote, and the live finale aired on April 24, making Hua the only returning artist to win I Am a Singer.

The music video of "Bull Fight," which took six months to complete, was released on May 3. In April 2020, Hua Chenyu's fourth album "New World" will be released. In mainland China, the physical album was released in USB format (Mars Deluxe Collection USB Version). It was also available in CD form. Despite that a free version of his live performances on Singer 2020 was already available, the digital album's sales reached 1.65 million (roughly $4.8 million) by early August 2020. The total number of sales exceeded 98.6 million, despite the fact that his single "I'm Here" was released digitally. He ranked 17th on Forbes China's Celebrity 100 list in 2020.

Ace VS Ace Season 6 Ep1 was aired and broadcast on Zhejiang TV on Jan. 29, 2021. The season, which came on a weekly basis, came to an end on April 16, 2021. Hua Chenyu became one of the Ace Family's four hosts.

Hua Chenyu performed a string of six Mars Concerts at Haikou Changy Universal 100 Wonderland on Nov. 26 - Dec. 5, Dec. 6-6. At each of the shows, he performed a new song. He explained that Airplane Mode was inspired by his encounter with strangers. An important friend's recommendation inspired flower in the Small Town. The Black and White Artist was written to address the problems of professional anti-fans. The remainder of the three songs form the Healing Trilogy.
