Debra Marshall Life

Debra Gale Marshall (born March 2, 1960) (formerly McMichael and Williams) is an American actress and retired professional wrestling valet.

Debra, the Queen Debra, is best known for her appearances with the World Championship Wrestling Federation (WCW) from 1995 to 1998 and 2002 as Debra.

She began working in pro wrestling in 1995, accompanying her husband Steve "Mongo" McMichael and the World Championship Wrestling team to the ring. (WCW). She joined the WWF in 1998, where she managed Jeff Jartt and Owen Hart's tag team until Hart's in-ring death in May 1999.

In 1999, she won the WWF Women's Championship from Sable in an Evening Gown match.

Stone Cold Steve Austin, her second husband, appeared on-screen until 2002, when the pair resigned from the business.

Marshall has also attended the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute in New York.

She graduated from the University of Alabama with honors (Cum Laude) and as of 2013, she was pursuing her master's degree in Criminal Justice at the University of Alabama.

Early life

Marshall, a student at Tuscaloosa, Alabama, became a track-runner, cheerleader, and Homecoming Queen before attending the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in New York City. She then became a flight attendant. She competed and won the title of 1987 Mrs. Illinois America in Elgin, Illinois, before going on to compete in the Mrs. America pageant in Las Vegas, Nevada, the same year. She later competed and triumphed in the 1992 Mrs. Texas USA pageant, in Houston, Texas, before going on to compete in the National Mrs. USA pageant. Marshall attended the University of Alabama.

Personal life

Marshall's relationship with National Football League alumnus and professional wrestler Steve McMichael lasted thirteen years. The mother of McMichael, who Marshall encountered on a plane, arranged their first meeting as a blind date. They divorced on October 12, 1998.

Debra first met Steven Williams, who appeared on film as Stone Cold Steve Austin in 1998; the two met in 1998 together; they merged in 2000. They married at The Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas on September 13th of this year, and Debra Williams changed her name to Debra Williams. Police in San Antonio, Texas, responded to a call from Debra's house, finding bruises and a bloody nose. Austin was arrested on August 14 and charged with misdemeanor assault. On November 25, he pleaded no contest and was given a year of probation, a $1,000 fine, and an order to conduct eighty hours of community service. On July 22, 2002, Austin filed for divorce from Marshall, and the case was closed on February 5, 2003. Marshall later auctioned her wedding ring off on eBay for $27,100, and donated a part of the funds to "Safe Place," an organization that supports domestic violence victims.

Marshall made several appearances in June and July 2007 to address the Chris Benoit double-murder and suicide. Austin was struck by steroids and opioids in June 2002, and she suggested connections between these chemicals and Benoit and his family's deaths. She also said that Austin beat her three times. Following the divorce, she has maintained a cordial rapport with Austin.

Marshall earned a Bachelor of Alabama with an undergraduate interdisciplinary degree in 2013. She was awarded a Master of Science degree in criminal justice from the University of Alabama in December 2017. Marshall was given the University of Alabama College of Arts and Science's Mary Avis Todd Award for "outstanding work in community studies" while working on her master's of science degree.

Debra Marshall Career

Professional wrestling career

Marshall appeared on WCW in late-1995 and early-1996, making occasional unidentified appearances as an audience member and as part of a group of vapers for the team of Hulk Hogan and "Macho Man" Randy Savage. In April 1996, she began to appear as a valet for her husband, Steve "Mongo" McMichael, as he transitioned from commentator to wrestler. Debra played the role of a beauty pageant queen in kayfabe interviews, giving her the title "The Queen of WCW" and making a few references regarding other wrestlers and valets.

Steve McMichael and his partner Kevin Greene competed against two of the Four Horsemen (Ric Flair and Arn Anderson). Flair won the match after Mongo and Debra blasted Greene with a steel briefcase, leading to the 4 Horsemen. Miss Elizabeth and Woman were able to care for the flock. The briefcase became one of Debra's most popular pieces later. Debra began to beat Mongo during his WCW United States Heavyweight Championship match against Jeff Jarrett in July 1997, knocking Mongo out and thereby winning the match. Debra and Alex Wright worked together briefly before returning to Goldberg and Alex Wright. Wright fired Debra on the 1997 version of Nitro, after she mistakenly distracted him, resulting in the death of Prince Iaukea. Debra left WCW after she was fired from McMichael.

Marshall rejoined Jarrett in the WWF in October 1998. She appeared as Debra McMichael and later Debra McMichael, and then simply as Debra, a shrewd businesswoman wearing business suits at the start of her WWF career. She also appeared in Jartt's girlfriend. Jartt began a feud with Goldust in late 1998, which culminated in a "striptease match" in your house. Debra hit Goldust over the head with Jart's trademark guitar, allowing Jartt to win. However, WWF Commissioner Shawn Michaels disqualified Jartt, and Debra Debra was forced to leave due to the match's terms. The Blue Blazer (Owen Hart) and Jartt covered her up as she was stripped. Debra, on the other hand, began using a new tactic during matches, distracting Jarrett's opponents by unbuttoning her blouse, deterring Jarrett's. She'll happily take off her blouse to show the audience her "puppies," a word first bestowed upon her chest by wrestler Road Dogg and later used by commentator Jerry Lawler.

Jartt and partner Hart then defeated The Big Boss Man and Ken Shamrock in January 1999 to become World Tag Team Champions. Debra feuded with female professional wrestler Ivory in February, making her first appearance in a mixed tag match on Monday Night Raw, which resulted in a no contest. She assaulted Ivory and hit her with Jartt's guitar right after the call. Jartt and Hart retained their tag name in a tag match against Ivory's associates Mark Henry and D'Lo Brown at St. Valentine's Day Massacre with Debra's assistance. The team lost their tag title to Kane and X-Pac's team in March. She also participated in her first single's match against Ivory, but she was disqualified after Jacqueline and Terri Runnels attacked Ivory during the match. Hart and Debra were expected to have an affair as Debra continued to lead Jartt and Hart, but the creative team denied the suggestion before it came out on film. A team name was also in the works, with Debra favouring "Talent and Attitude" (T&A)—but Hart died in May 1999 at Over the Edge. Debra and Jarrett were disqualified from the tournament after losing a mixed tag team match against Nicole Bass and Val Venis later this year. Debra and Jarrett were interviewed minutes after Hart's death from the rafters at Kemper Arena, where Debra was clearly distraught and fighting back tears of fear for her friend, and that she was unable to remain in her persona.

Debra was supposed to face Sable in a 'Nightgown' match on May 2, 1999, but she was disqualified against Nicole Bass, who she defeated. Debra was the WWF Women's Championship from Sable in an evening gown match on May 10, 1999. The woman who forcibly removes her opponent's clothes wins in an Evening Gown match. Because Sable removed Debra's clothes, she should have been the king. Commissioner Shawn Michaels also found that the woman who had lost her dress to be the champion, thus crowning Debra as the new Women's Champion. She ruled the Women's for a month but then lost the title to Ivory on June 14 due to Nicole Bass' interference.

Jartt met D'Lo Brown at SummerSlam in 1999. Debra and Brown's old tag team partner Mark Henry intervened on Jart's behalf during the game, allowing him to win both the European Championship and the Intercontinental Championship. Jartt gave Henry the European title and gave Debra the Debra a Debra Kitty, a secretary. Following Jartt's defeat in a mixed tag match against Stephanie McMahon and Test on September 26, Debra stepped on Jartt at Unfort and slapped him over the head with a guitar in the middle of his match against Chyna for the Intercontinental Championship. Chyna pinned Jarna, but referee Tom Prichard reversed the decision due to Debra's involvement. In a triumphant effort, Debra participated in an intergender tag match with Chyna against the team of Jartt and Prichard on the following episode of RAW.

Debra appeared in an eight-women Sudden Death match at Survivor Series in November 1999, where she partnered with The Fabulous Moolah, Mae Young, and Tori in a triumphant battle against Ivory, Jacqueline, Luna Vachon, and Terri Runnels, as her last appearance as an in-ring performer while training at the time to compete. While her husband Stone Cold Steve Austin recovered from neck surgery, Debra stayed off television. She appeared at Backlash in April 2000 as a guest ring announcer at the first match. Lieutenant Commissioner Mick Foley's assistant was in charge of protecting the public's assistant.

Debra resigned as Lieutenant Commissioner on the March 5, 2001 episode of Raw to try running again, though it was revealed on-screen that she was Stone Cold's wife. Mr. McMahon gave her the job of running The Rock, who was then rivalry with Stone Cold at the time. She appeared on RAW and slapped Vince McMahon Although she was supposed to be involved in a high-profile Wrestlemania 17 match between the two teams, she was later disqualified due to both competitors' insistence not to have her out at ringside. After Wrestlemania, she appeared on RAW, criticizing Vince McMahon for her role in Stone Cold's villainous persona, and then slapping him after he insulted her. She appeared in a backstage segment and slapped The Undertaker, who was feuding with Austin at the time. Debra joined Austin in the second half of 2001, with a running joke about her famous chocolate chip cookies being repulsive (although Debra herself was unaware of this). Stacy Keibler and Shawn Stasiak mistakenly dropped a bucket of milk on Debra after a miscommunication during a prank on Kurt Angle. Following a failed peace offer, Debra defeated Keibler with a tray of cookies in a backstage segment the following week. Debra clocked Stone Cold in August as a result of an episode of Smackdown! She accompanied her husband to the ring for a match against Matt Hardy next week and was involved in a physical altercation with Lita during the match.

After wrangling over their respective husbands, Debra was embroiled in a big backstage brawl with Stephanie McMahon in 2002. Debra debuted in backstage segments shortly after her last RAW appearance in Austin in June 2002, fanning the flames of their well-publicized marital demise.

Austin then returned to WWE in 2003 after being accused of domestic violence against Austin and arrest. Debra was not allowed to return, but not once. Debra's names were removed from WWE programming and media entirely, though WWE.com listed her as one of female celebrities with a definite impact outside of the ring in 2021.
