Omar Banos (born June 26, 1998), also known as Cuco, is an American singer-songwriter hailing from Hawthorne, California.

His fame increased after the introduction of "Lo Que Siento" in 2017, which attracted over 5 million streams on Spotify alone.

After graduating from Hawthorne High School, Cuco released his first two EPs, Wannabewithu (2016) and Songs4u (2017).

In 2019, he released Para Mi, his first studio album on Interscope Records.

According to Nielsen Music, his music has earned nearly 290.6 million streams.

Early life

Omar Banos was born in Inglewood, California, on June 26, 1998, to immigrant Mexican parents. His mother, Irma, was born in Puebla, Mexico City, while his father, Adolfo, came from Mexico City. He grew up in Hawthorne, California, and began playing guitar at the age of eight. He had played with trumpet, piano, drums, bass guitar, mellophone, and french horn before reaching the age of 15. Banos attended junior school in Lennox and graduated from Hawthorne High School, where he was both a member of the school marching band and the jazz band.

Banos posted a slide guitar cover of Sleep Walk by Santo & Johnny, which attracted thousands of viewers on YouTube. He began making and releasing songs from his parents' house and revealing them on Bandcamp and SoundCloud. Banos' first EP, titled Heavy Trip, appeared on Bandcamp in January 2015. Banos' first album, "Yeah," was released on SoundCloud under the moniker of Heavy Trip in the same year. He then moved to Cuco, which was given to him by his mother as a child.

After learning how to use Ableton Live, Banos had self-produced his first mixtape Wannabewithu by the age of 18. Cuco started playing at clubs in Southern California in 2017, selling out his first two venues. In 2017, Cuco's first single, "Lo Que Siento," debuted on Spotify alone, earning over 128 million streams. Cuco dropped out after a year of attending Santa Monica City College to pursue a career in music after the success of "Lo Que Siento."

Cuco coproduced the single "Drown" by American singer Clairo, which was released in August 2018. He then collaborated with Polyphia on a track called "So Strange" from their album New Levels New Devils, which was released in October 2018. In April 2018, as well as at Lollapalooza in October 2018, Cuco played alongside saxophonist Kenny G at Coachella. "Looking" is a project that started in February 2019 by Joe Roc Magic and Lil Rob, both from childhood Chicano rap idols. Banos signed under Interscope Records in March 2019, putting an end to a bidding war that lasted two years. Cuco released "Hydrocodone," Para Mi's lead singer, before unveiling "Bossa No Sé" with Jean Carter on May 22, 2019. Cuco's debut studio album, Para Mi Mie, was released on July 26, seven years ago. Cuco's new challenges include a tour bus accident that sent him and his band members to the hospital, which is highlighted on the album. On the US charts, the album debuted at number 94.
