Big Show Life

Paul Donald Wight II (born February 8, 1972) is an American professional wrestler and actor who is currently signed to WWE, where he appears on the SmackDown brand under the title Big Show.

Wight began his wrestling career (WCW), where he was first identified as "The son of André the Giant." He has been a seven-time world champion, having appeared in the WCW World Heavyweight Championship twice, the WWF/WWE Championship twice, WWE's World Heavyweight Championship twice, and the ECW World Heavyweight Championship once (he is the only man to have won all four of those specific titles).

Additionally, Wight has had success in the tag team division, winning the WWF/World, WWE, and WCW World Tag Team Championships with various tag team affiliates.

He has also won the Intercontinental, United States, and Hardcore championships, as well as the 12th Grand Slam champion in WWE history. André the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 31.

Since 1995, Wight has headlined numerous pay-per-view events for WCW and WWF/WWE, including the 2000 version of WWE's most coveted annual event, WrestleMania.

In 2010, he appeared in the comedy film Knucklehead, which was produced by WWE Studios for his first lead role.

Wight played basketball for a variety of colleges, including Wichita State University, Northern Oklahoma Junior College, and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

Wight is married to Bess Katramados and the couple have two children together, as well as the fact that Wight has a daughter with his first wife.

Early life

In Aiken, South Carolina, Wight was born February 8, 1972. He was born with acromegaly, a gastrointestinal disease that leads to rapid growth. He was 6 foot (2.88 kilograms), weighed 220 lb (100 kg), and had chest hair by the time he was 12 years old. He was born 7 ft 1 in (2.16 m) in 1991 as a member of the Wichita State University basketball team at age 19, and was rated at 7 ft 1 in (2.16 m). In the early 1990s, he underwent successful surgery on his pituitary gland, which slowed the expansion. His shoe size is 22 5E, his ring size is 22, and his chest circumference is 6 inches (1,600 mm). Because of the logistical challenges his size creates in air travel and vehicle rental, he rented a bus and recruited a bus driver in 2005.

In high school at Wyman King Academy in Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina, he played basketball and American football. He was a standout center for the basketball team and a tight end for the football team. He left football after his freshman year due to differences with the coach. He continued to support the team by being a sophomore in the cheerleading squad, partially out of envy. It was later branded "the best ride of my life" by the driver; others were riding a bus with sweaty clothes, and I'm in a van with seven cheerleaders who are all learning about life. "A mother who was deaf in her right ear and chain-smoked" drove the van.

At Wichita State University, he played basketball. Before that, he attended Northern Oklahoma Junior College in Tonkawa, Oklahoma, where his basketball averages of 14 points and 6.5 rebounds earned him all-conference honors and helped the team win the Oklahoma Bi-State Conference's Western Division. He attended Southern Illinois University Edwardsville from 1992 to 1993, served on the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II Cougars basketball team, and is a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. In limited action during his one year with SIUE, he scored 39 points for the Cougars.

Personal life

In 1997, Wight married Melissa Ann Piavis, his first wife. They divorced in 2000 and 2002 after being separated in 2000. They have a child together. Bess Katramados married him in 2002. They have two children together.

For many years, Wight has been a fan of Special Olympics, including the 2014 Special Olympics USA Games in New Jersey, where he appeared in the Opening Ceremony. He was later named WWE Goodwill Ambassador for the 2015 Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles. Since 2018, he has served as a Global Ambassador for Special Olympics International.

In December 1998, the Memphis Police Department arrested Wight for reportedly exposing himself to a female motel employee who was the front desk clerk at a hotel in Memphis, Tennessee. The charge was then dismissed due to insufficient evidence.

Wight was charged with assault by Robert Sawyer, who said that Wight had broken his jaw during the summer of 1998 in the course of an altercation at Marriott Hotels & Resorts in Uniondale, New York. Sawyer had verbally assaulted, assaulted, and shoved him, according to Wight, who had retaliated by punching Sawyer. Judge Thomas Feinman delivered a not guilty verdict three days after three days.

Big Show Career

Professional wrestling career

After school, Wight performed various occupations, including bouncing, bounty hunting, and answering phone calls. Danny Bonaduce was a featured contributor in a live microphone amateur competition on his morning radio show, and he did the latter for a karaoke business. Hulk Hogan, Bonaduce's companion, received Wight. They had an informal basketball game as part of a World Championship Wrestling (WCW) promotion for a new show at the Rosemont Horizon. Hogan loved how Wight performed the crowd and recommended him to Eric Bischoff, the vice president of World Championship Wrestling. Weight attended the Horizon show and was welcomed into the locker room, where he met Ric Flair, Arn Anderson (his boyhood hero), and Paul Orndorff. He later met Bischoff and reached an agreement. In December 3, 1994, the wrestling Association in Clementon, New Jersey, defeated him by countout to WWA Heavyweight Champion Frank Finnegan.

During an autograph session, Wight had earlier tried to inquire about joining the WWF, although also at the Horizon. Since he admitted to having no expertise, promoter and scout Bob Collins turned him down. Sharpe's Monster Factory $5,000 was paid to Larry Sharpe's butchery Polo was only moderately trained (Johnny Polo taught him the collar-and-elbow lockup). While there, he made an audition tape and gave it to Mike Chioda, who had been in a Philadelphia bar. Chioda forwarded it to Pat Patterson, who did not bother watching it because he assumed Wight was another wrestler, Kurrgan. Patterson only knew he had made the wrong call when he watched the Giant debut in WCW, much to Vince McMahon's displeasure.

In 1995, Wight joined WCW for the first time. He debuted in May 1995 at Slamboree, where he was listed as the son of André the Giant (although this was later removed) and so he adopted the ring name "The Giant" as a member of Kevin Sullivan's Dungeon of Doom stable. At Halloween Havoc versus Hulk Hogan for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, Wight made his professional debut in the Ring. He won the match after Hogan's boss, Jimmy Hart, purposefully disqualified Hogan and then turned on him. The Giant was on TV on Monday Night to win the title; Hart, the Giant's manager, announced that if Hogan failed via disqualification, he would forfeit his championship. The WCW responded by notifying the title change due to the circumstances surrounding it, and the championship was vacated.

At World War 3 in November 1995, the Giant entered a sixty-man war royal vying for the vacant championship. He was one of the final six combatants, being stunned by Hogan simultaneously with Sting and Lex Luger. Although Randy Savage had to ban the One Man Gang from the game, the Giant did not leave the ring and pulled Hogan under the ropes. The referee saw not The Giant's actions, only that Hogan was on the floor, and Savage was awarded the match and the trophy. At Clash of the Champions XXVIII, the Giant defeated Hogan and Savage, but Hogan was defeated by Hogan in a cage match at SuperBrawl VI. The Giant regained the World Heavyweight Championship after a short feud with Loch Ness. Following Hogan's introduction of the New World Order (nWo), he defeated The Giant for the title at Hog Wild.

Ted DiBiase's money was his primary motivation, rivalry with Lex Luger and the Four Horsemen, when the Giant joined the nWo 23 days later, blaming his friendship with Lex Luger and the Four Horsemen. Giant asked Hogan for a World Heavyweight Championship crown match after winning the World War III battle royal. He was kicked out of the nWo on December 30 for this. He competed with the nWo, as well as Sting and Luger, winning the WCW World Tag Team Championship twice.

The Giant began a rivalry with nWo member Nash, who largely avoided the Giant, which culminated in the Giant's absence from their scheduled match at Starrcade in 1997. The two teams finally met in the ring in 1998, at Souled Out, with Nash inadvertently injuring The Giant's neck as he botched his signature jackknife powerbomb finisher. According to rumors, Nash had intentionally dropped the Giant on his head in order to crack his neck. When Nash left the nWo and formed his own stable, the nWo Wolfpact, The Giant rejoined the original nWo to defy Nash and his allies. The Giant won two more Tag Team Championships, once with Sting as an unwilling friend (as the match was broadcast before the Giant returned to the nWo) and then with Scott Hall. He lost half of the championships to Sting in a singles match in which only the champion remains champion and the winner could choose a new partner in the interim between those two reigns.

Bill Goldberg defeated The Giant in a no-disqualification match on October 12, 1998. In a show of strength, Goldberg performed a waited vertical suplex before executing the Jackhammer on The Giant. Hogan said that there was only room for one "giant" in the company after the nWo Hollywood and nWo Wolfpac stables merged in January 1999, causing Giant and Nash to fight for the top spot. Nash beat Giant after a run-in by Scott Hall and Eric Bischoff. The Giant was then slashed by the entire nWo. Wight said he was making a fraction of what the main eventers were earning and that his salary was not increasing after he ordered it to be increased after Eric Bischoff's request that it be ended; as a result, he allowed his WCW deal to finish on February 8, 1999, his 27th birthday.

On February 9, 1999, Wight signed a ten-year deal with the World Wrestling Federation, debuting under the name of Paul Wight as a member of Vince McMahon's stable, The Corporation. Wight ripped through the fabric from underneath the ring and attacked Austin, establishing himself as a heel during McMahon's cage match against Stone Cold Steve Austin. Austin won the match after he threw Austin into the cage, causing Austin to crash outside the ground, resulting in Austin winning the tournament. Wight was formerly the McMahon's enforcer.

He made his WrestleMania debut at WrestleMania XV, fighting Mankind for the right to referee the main event between Austin and The Corporation's WWF Champion The Rock. However, Big Show incapacitated Mankind and was disqualified in the process, ultimately losing the match. McMahon slapped him after the match, causing him to leave The Corporation and turn face. They formed The Union after being defeated by Mankind in a Boiler Room Brawl, and Ken Shamrock, who laterfought against the Corporation and later The Corporate Ministry, who fought against the Corporation and later The Union. Big Show was battling The Undertaker for the WWF Championship on June 7th, which resulted in referee stoppage and Undertaker retained his title. The Big Show later proved heel again by partnering with Undertaker, wrestling against X-Pac and Kane at SummerSlam, and the WWF Tag Team Championship was won twice.

Since The Undertaker was hospitalized with injuries, Big Show turned face once more and reignited a rivalry with the Big Boss Man over the death of the show's father (in reality, Wight's father died years before). They taped a segment in which Big Boss Man invaded the funeral and used a chain to steal the coffin during his feud. In a 4-on-1 elimination match, the Big Show took on Big Boss Man, Prince Albert, Mideon, and Viscera. His feud was poorly received, winning the Wrestling Observer Newsletter's "Worst Feud Award" and winning the competition after Big Boss Man was counted out. Big Show appeared in a Triple Threat Match against The Rock and the WWF Champion, Triple H, who took the title later that night. WWF wanted something new and fresh, so they gave the title to the Big Show. Despite Big Show retaining the title against Big Boss Man, the guy was disqualified from the match against Triple H on January 3, 2000. Big Show was on display in the Royal Rumble match where he was last disqualified by The Rock while trying to regain the crown. Big Show turned heel yet again by releasing a videotape that showed The Rock's feet striking the ground first, resulting in a match against The Rock at No Way Out, which culminated in a match between The Rock and The Rock at No Way Out. Shane McMahon interfered, knocking out the Rock with a chair shot at No Way Out. On the March 13 episode of Raw, the Rock was determined to reclaim his title and eventually agreed to a match with Big Show – if he wins, the WrestleMania championship match would become a Triple Threat match, and if he loses, he will withdraw from the WWF. Shane McMahon, who is now promoting Big Show's bid to become a champion, has volunteered to be the special guest referee. On the other hand, the Rock defeated Big Show when Vince McMahon assaulted Shane and wore the referee shirt, despite personally counting the three numbers. Triple H defended the title against The Rock and Big Show on the condition that the match will not take place at the WrestleMania 2000, a champion Big Show on March 20. Linda McMahon said this match would not take place in WrestleMania as Triple H would defend the title in a Fatal Four-Way Elimination match, with Mick Foley as the fourth man. After the other three competitors banded together against him, Big Show was the first man disqualified from the match at WrestleMania.

Big Showbowski, Warwickshire's WrestleMania, resurfaced as Showkishi, lampooning Rikishi, and Val Venis as The Big Showbowski. Kurt Angle at Backlash disguised as Hulk Hogan as the Showster, complete with skullcap/wig and yellow tights. After Shane voiced his disapproval of the Big Show's antics, the show began feuding with Shane McMahon. Shane defeated Big Show in a Falls Count Anywhere match after interference from Big Boss Man, Bull Buchanan, and Albert on Judgment Day. Two months later, the Big Show appeared to be seeking revenge on Shane. Shane, Chris Benoit, Kurt Angle, and Edge and Christian went backward and confronted The Undertaker once more, beginning to work with Shane, Shane, Shane, and Shane once more, creating a short-lived stable known as "The Conspiracy." On the August 7, 2000, episode of Raw, the Undertaker threw a table off a table, effectively ending the show off the remainder of the year. The Big Show was sent by WWF-British Wrestling to shed weight and increase his cardiovascular endurance.

The Royal Rumble's big show was revived, but The Rock was defeated by The Rock. Angered by his prompt dismissal, the Big Show continued to choke The Rock through the television booth before leaving the arena. He then began competing for the WWF Hardcore Championship, and at No Way Out, Big Show defeated Raven to win the championship. On the 19th episode of Raw, he would lose the title to Raven. In a Triple Threat match for the Hardcore Championship that also included Raven at WrestleMania X-Seven, the Big Show lost to Kane. During the Invasion, the Big Show stayed loyal to the WWF. In a Last Man Standing match at Backlash, Shane McMahon, the on-screen owner of WCW, was disqualified following interference from Test. He returned to his face just after. Despite being the first man to be disqualified, Big Show was also part of the victive Team WWF at Survivor Series.

Big Show was drafted to the Raw brand shortly after WrestleMania X8's debut. Big Show turned heel once more during a tag team match against X-Pac and Scott Hall, joining the nWo in the process. In a Handicap match on Judgment Day, Big Show and Ric Flair were defeated by Austin. Since Kevin Nash was hurt, the stable was disbanded. The nWo disbanded, Big Show had no success on Raw, losing matches against Jeff Hardy, Booker T, and the Dudley Boyz.

The Big Show was moved to the SmackDown in October. Brock Lesnar is being criticized for the WWE Championship right away by the company. During this period, Big Show introduced a new style, black jeans, and a new hairstyle and facial hair. Big Show defeated Lesnar at Survivor Series, snaping Lesnar from his undefeated run and assisting Paul Heyman. Kurt Angle won the title a month later at Armageddon.

Then SmackDown!

On the December 26 episode of SmackDown, general manager Stephanie McMahon revealed that Big Show would face Chris Benoit. In a match that will determine who will face Angle at the Royal Rumble, it will be determined who will face Angle. Since Benoit pinned him, he lost to Benoit. Big Show and Angle brutally attacked Benoit after the match. Big Showdown: Brock Lesnar lost a Royal Rumble qualifying match to him at the Royal Rumble. He then began feuding with The Undertaker after the Big Show pulled him off the stage, injuring his neck, resulting in Big Show and his partner A-Train losing to The Undertaker at WrestleMania XIX. He revisited his rivalry with Lesnar, wrestling him four times for the WWE Championship (including a Stretcher match at Judgment Day), but was unsuccessful in his efforts to regain the crown. Lesnar, the ropes and the ring imploded, two ring posts were moved, and three rows of ropes fell on the SmackDown episode on June 12th. The referee called for event physician Dr. Burke, EMTs, physicians, trainers, and even more referees. This left the title in Lesnar's hands, and we all went to the hospital. Big Show, Shelton Benjamin, and Charlie Haas defeated Mr. America (a disguised Hulk Hogan), Lesnar, and Angle in a six-man tag team competition when Big Show pinned Mr. America on June 26. This was Hogan's last appearance as Mr. America. For many months after, WWE blasted Big Show as the man who brought Hogan back to life.Eddie Guerrero was defeated by Big Show at No Mercy in the WWE United States Championship. Brock Lesnar, the then-WWE Champion, then allies. At the Royal Rumble, Chris Benoit had him defeated. Lesnar's quitting Lesnar was left unhurried right before WrestleMania XX. The United States Championship to John Cena was lost at WrestleMania XX. Big Show promised to resign if he didn't beat Eddie Guerrero on April 15, 2004 episode of SmackDown! Guerrero lost to Guerrero after Guerrero delivered a Flash Splash, and Torrie Wilson, who had screamed at him for missing, screamed at her car and yelled her off the ledge.

Then General Manager of SmackDown!

Kurt Angle ascended the ledge to investigate some reason into the Big Show, but he choked Angle off the ledge, causing the back of Angle's head to bleed, as well as injuring his legs. Big Show was neither seen nor heard on WWE television for months after the show ended on April 24.

On the September 9 episode of SmackDown, Big Show was revived by new General Manager Theodore Long, as he intervened during a Lumberjack match between Eddie Guerrero and Kurt Angle. With Snitsky, he reacted angrily to his former foes for several weeks. He foiled Snitsky's bullying of backstage interviewer Maria on Snitsky's episode of Raw on August 22. Snitsky and Big Show began the show with the ring bell immediately after Big Show had won a match. As a result, Big Show and Snitsky were put together in a match in Unforgiven in which Big Show defeated Snitsky. Big Show defeated Snitsky once more in a Street Fight on September 26th episode of Raw.

On the October 17 episode of Raw, Big Show defeated Edge and was thus placed in an online opinion poll, with the poll winner facing John Cena and Kurt Angle in a Triple Threat match for the WWE Championship at Taboo on Tuesday. Shawn Michaels took the poll, meaning that the other two wrestlers qualified for the World Tag Team Championship. Big Show and Kane returned to SmackDown!

After JBL called the game off, the referee poked him in the eye, defying Mysterio and JBL on December 2, the referee claimed the referee poked him in the eye. Big Show and Kane's attempt to assault Mysterio was foiled once more this weekend, this time when Batista came out to see them off. At Armageddon, Big Show and Kane defeated Batista and Mysterio.

Big Show took part in a qualifying match for a shot at the WWE Championship in an Elimination Chamber match at New Year's Revolution on December 12th. Shawn Michaels, his rival, was disqualified after Triple H struck Michaels with a chair, knowingly injuring Big Show the match and the championship shot. Triple H's qualifying match with Kane later that evening was costly in retribution. Big Show defeated Rob Van Dam to win the ECW World Heavyweight Championship in Philadelphia on July 4 with the help of ECW's Representative Paul Heyman, who declined to make the three-count for Van Dam after Van Dam's appearance on Big Show. Several people were criticized by Big Show in the weeks leading up to Night of Champions, including United States Champion Kofi Kingston and Evan Bourne. He later feuded with Kingston over the United States Championship, earning himself a spot in the six-pack competition at Night of Champions. Big Show was introduced as Chris Jericho's new tag team partner after Edge needed time off to tend to a wrist injury, effectively ending the Big Show from the six-pack competition for the United States Championship. Jeri-Show was able to successfully defend The Legacy together. Jeri-Show at Breaking Point and Rey Mysterio and Batista at Hell in a Cell defended the titles against Cryme Tyme at SummerSlam, MVP, and Mark Henry. Big Show represented Team Raw at Bragging Rights, but he betrayed and injured his teammates, which resulted in Team SmackDown winning so he might qualify for the World Heavyweight Championship. In a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match, Jeri-Show defeated the Unified WWE Tag Team Championship at TLC: Tables, Ladders, and Chairs to D-Generation X (D-X). Jericho, as a member of the SmackDown roster, could only appear on Raw as a champion, and as a result of this rematch, D-X deliberately disqualified Jericho from the tournament to disqualify Jericho. Eventually, the teams had a match with a definitive conclusion on January 4's Raw, but D-X retained, signaling the end of Jeri-Show.

Big Show regained the D-X titles with his new tag team partner The Miz in a Triple Threat Tag Team Elimination match that also included the Straight Edge Society (CM Punk and Luke Gallows) on February 8 episodes of Raw.
