Choi Sung-hee (born February 28, 1980), known professionally as Bada, is a South Korean singer, composer and musical actress.
She debuted as a member of the South Korean girl group S.E.S. in 1997.
After S.E.S. disbanded in December 2002, she released her first solo studio album, A Day of Renew, in October 2003. Apart from recording and performing songs, she has established herself as an actress, notably through her participation in the original and Korean versions of stage musicals including Notre-Dame de Paris, 200 Pounds Beauty, Legally Blonde, and Mozart!.
She won Best Actress at the third Musical Awards and has starred in ten musicals to date.
Early life
Choi Sung-hee was born February 28, 1980. Her father is Choi Sae-wol, a trot singer with a background in Korean pansori. Due to financial struggle during her childhood, especially after her father fell ill, she lived in a container home provided by a local church for nine years until her debut. In a series of lectures for youth, she has addressed her beginning and has encouraged students to not let their background become an obstacle in obtaining their dreams.
Bada was scouted by Lee Soo-man and entered SM Entertainment. She debuted as the leader and lead vocal of S.E.S., the first successful female K-pop idol group.
Bada studied theater at Dankook University.
Personal life
On January 13, 2017, her agency confirmed that she would marry a franchise restaurant owner nine years her junior. Her wedding was held in Seoul on March 23, 2017. On August 30, 2020, Bada posted a letter on her fancafe announcing her pregnancy. On September 7, 2020, she gave birth to her first child, a daughter.
Career
Bada made her S.E.S. debut. In 1997, the first person to write a letter was in charge of a university. On November 1, 1997, the group released I'm Your Girl, their debut album. The group later became the best-selling K-pop girl group in the country. The group has released five Korean albums, two Japanese albums, as well as a Japanese compilation album since its debut. Friend, a Korean compilation album before the group broke up at the end of 2002. Members Bada and Eugene resigned from SM Entertainment, while Shoo stayed with SM Entertainment until 2006.
Bada has signed a WoongJin Entertainment exclusive deal. Bada's debut solo album A Day of Renew, released in 2003, has sold nearly 130,000 copies, according to the Music Industry Association of Korea. Bada became the first Korean idol singer to perform on stage in 2003 with the release of musical Peppermint, a love tale about a singer named Bada. It was written for her by writer and producer Lee Yu-ri, who is also responsible for other musical ventures such as Typhoon, Mother, and Winter Sonata. Aurora's second album, which has sold nearly 23,000 copies, was released in 2004.
Made in Sea, Michelle's third album, was a huge success in 2006. On a Sunday, Bada appeared in Denise in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Korean version of Tell Me. Esmeralda debuted right afterward as a member of Notre Dame de Paris's original Korean cast. Esmeralda's role was highly praised and she received the Best Newcomer Actress award and others at The Musical Awards and the Korea Musical Daesangs in 2008; she reprised the role in 2009.
Bada's fourth album, See the Sea, debuted both Korean rapper Untouchable and Ok Taec-yeon, which included both Korean rapper Untouchable and 2PM's Ok Taec-yeon. Bada appears in the titular role of Kang Han-byul, an overweight ghost singer who aspires to be a singer and underwent extensive plastic surgery in the following year. 200 Pounds Beauty, a musical based on the famous film of the same name, aspires to become a celebrity and underwent extensive plastic surgery. Kang received the Best Actress award at the third Annual The Musical Awards, Bada's turn as she received her the third Best Actress award. In 2011, she was recast on the scheme.

Elle Woods was cast in Legally Blonde in June 2013. Her mother died while she was in dire need of legal assistance. Despite the loss, Bada's run on the musical continued well into its final run, and she performed "You Raise Me Up" on KBS' Open Music Concert, just two days after her mother's death. She has since reported that this loss was the catalyst for her relative inactivity in both her music and musical careers, from 2011 to mid-2013. In Frank Wildhorn's first Korean adaptation of The Scarlet Pimpernel, she also appeared as Marguerite. Bada appeared on "City Life" on American musician Brian Transeau's album A Song Across Wires in the same year.
In the 2013 production of Notre Dame de Paris, she appeared as Esmeralda. Carmen was then portrayed in the first Korean version of the musical Carmen.
Bada and S.E.S. were together on May 28, Bada, and the United States. Members Eugene and Shoo attended a charity function, Green Heart Bazaar. On June 13, 2016, Bada released a special album titled Flower to commemorate her 20th birthday. Kanto's album "Flower" features four songs, with lead singer Kanto appearing on the album. On June 13, she and "Amazing" released a double music video for "Flower" and "Amazing" on June 15. On June 26, Bada unveiled a special summer album titled Summertime, just a few weeks later. Bada released "Cosmic" alongside Super Junior's Ryeowook on September 22, as part of the SM Entertainment initiative SM Station.
Bada, together with Eugene and Shoo, re-formed the S.E.S. in October 2016. The two artists are set to celebrate their 20th anniversary. They began their 20th anniversary journey with the release of "Love[Story], a retort of their 1999 single "Love" on SM Entertainment's digital platform SM Entertainment's digital project SM Station's digital project "Love]," a re-release of their 1999 single "Love" on December 29.
They premiered Remember, I'm Your S.E.S., a ten episode reality show that was broadcast via smartphone app Oksusu in early December. On December 30 and 31, a commemoration of their 20th anniversary of birth, they held a concert Remember the Day at Sejong University's Daeyang Hall in Seoul.
Remember's special album of their 20th anniversary debut Remember was released on January 2, 2012. There are two lead singles on the album. On January 1, "Remember" was digitally released, and "Paradise" and the album "Paradise" were announced on January 2 with the album. On March 1, 2017, they held a fanmeet for their final project of their 20th anniversary of birth, I Will Be There, Waiting for You.
She became the vocal guide for Idol School in July 2017.
Bada's solo concert for her 20th anniversary debut, Twenty Steps, was a hit on December 31, 2017 at the grand hall of Unjeong Green Campus at Sungshin Women's University.
Wave Nine announced Bada's return on October 14, 2019, with the single title "Off the Record" slated for publication on October 24.
Bada partnered with 33 musicians to debut "Evergreen" by Yang Hee-eun's "Evergreen" for the medical professionals around the world fighting COVID-19 and also on the 60th anniversary of the April 19 Revolution.
