Wright was born in Montreal, Quebec, on February 17, 1971.
Wright and Mathew Knowles started an 18-month affair in which Wright became pregnant in the late 2000s. Mathew Knowles, according to pleading tests, is the father of her son, Nixon Knowles. Tina Knowles filed for divorce from her husband on November 11, 2009, citing Matthew's affair with Wright. Wright apologised to Tina, Beyoncé, and Solange for the "pain [she] has contributed" to their lives. Wright became engaged to Celebrity Fit Club coach Harvey Walden IV following the breakup with Knowles.

Wright's acting career began in 1989 with an uncredited role in the 1989 television film Third Degree Burnout. Wright appeared in JAG's episode "Psychic Warrior" and the 2000 drama Love Beat The Hell Outta Me a decade later. Wright appeared in Baby Boy, a drama starring Tyrese Gibson, Taraji P. Henson, Snoop Doggy Dog, and Omar Gooding in 2001.
Wright continued her appearance in Baby Boy with two television shows: the "My Fifteen Minutes" episode of Scrubs in 2001, and the Girls Club's "The Young and the Meatless" episode in 2002.
