Ana Ortiz (born January 25, 1971) is an American actress and singer.

She attended University of the Arts as a child and pursued a career in ballet and singing from a young age.

Ortiz began her acting career in theatre in the early 2000s and appeared in Kristin (2001) and A.U.S.A. She appeared on Over There and Boston Legal from 2003 to 2005, and she continued to appear on Over There and Boston Legal. Ortiz gained a lot of notice for her appearance as Hilda Suarez in the ABC comedy-drama series Ugly Betty from 2006 to 2010.

She appeared in films such as Labor Pains (2009) and Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son (2011), and appeared in Little Girl Lost: The Delimar Vera Story (2008).

Ortiz appeared in Lifetime's televised drama series Devious Maids, for which she received the Imagen Award for Best Actress - Television from 2013 to 2016.

Personal life

Ortiz married musician Noah Lebenzon on June 7, 2007, Puerto Rico's second birthday. Paloma, the couple's daughter, was born on June 25, 2009. Rafael, their second child, was born on September 24, 2011.

Ortiz is leading campaigns against domestic violence, citing her own experiences as a young adult and being involved in a marital relationship that became physically abused. Ortiz writes about this: "I used some of the stuff subconsciously... i used some of that." Hilda sat on her bed back in "How Betty Got Her Grieve Back," when she realized that Santos had died. It's something that is always with me."

Ortiz was born in New York City and is the niece of Angel Ortiz, a Puerto Rican citizen of the Philadelphia City Council, and Kathleen Kuhlman, an Irish-American mother. Ortiz studied ballet for eight years as an infant, but the agony of performing forced her to pursue a new artistic form. Ortiz graduated from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.

Ortiz, who went from singing to singing, attended the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Performing Arts in New York City and later the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, before making her professional debut in Dangerous Liaisons. Chrissy appeared in a European touring production of Hair, regional theater productions including Dog Lady and the Cuban Swimmer, and in the South Coast Repertory Theater's production of References to Salvador Dal Make Me Hot. She appeared Off-Broadway in In Arabia We'd All Be Kings, directed by Academy Award-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman and dubbed one of the best plays of 1999 by Time Out New York.

Ortiz appeared in several television shows, including "Seinfeld," NYPD Blue, Everybody Loves Raymond, Commander In Chief, ER, and The New Adventures of Old Christine. Kristin, the short-lived NBC comedy series, was her first regular appearance on television (2001). A.U.S.A. appeared in another short-lived sitcom. In 2003, and later appeared in the FX drama Over There, and the ABC series Boston Legal, with a recurring protagonist.

Ortiz appeared in the ABC comedy-drama series Ugly Betty in 2006. Hilda Suarez, the lead character's sister, was played in 2006. Ortiz had tried to audition for the Betty Suarez role in 2008, saying, "I was very plain." "I just put on some glasses and remained my hair sort of flat and layered on the clothing," she said about the dress she wore when auditioning for Betty. "I just wanted them to remember me so that I would be involved in the future."

Ortiz appeared in films, including starring roles in Tortilla Heaven and Labor Pains. She appeared in Batman: Gotham Knight and starred in the made-for-television film Little Girl Lost: The Delimar Vera Story in 2008. Ortiz was cast as a lead character in ABC comedy drama pilot Devious Maids in 2012. Although ABC did not want to pick it up to series, Lifetime picked up the pilot with a thirteen-episode order. Critics loved the series's premiere on Lifetime on June 23, 2013. Marisol Duarte (the alias of Professor Marisol Suarez) appears in the show. Ortiz appeared in Revenge, Australia's highest guest star, as Bizzy Preston, in 2013. Ortiz appeared in episodes of two ABC shows: How to Get Away With Murder and Black-ish in 2014.

Ortiz was cast in the gay-drama film Love is All You Need in 2014 Ortiz was cast. (2016), a sequel to the 2011 short film with the same name. She did speak out against her role in the 2018 film Ralph Breaks the Internet.

In 2016, Devious Maids was canceled after four seasons. Ortiz appeared in her third unsold pilot, a parody called Charlie Foxtrot, for the third year. Ortiz has been in the main cast of Whiskey Cavalier since 2019, playing FBI profiler Susan Sampson.

Ortiz appeared in the hit Hulu series Love, Victory as Isabel Salazar, the mother of the title character Victor Salazar. Critics are raving about her work.
