Warren Demartini Life

Warren Justin DeMartini (born April 10, 1963), better known as Torch, is the former lead guitarist for Ratt, a well-known American band in the 1980s Los Angeles glam metal scene.

Early life

DeMartini was born in Chicago, Illinois, on April 10, 1963, and was the youngest of five boys. He spent his early years in the suburb of River Forest, Illinois. The family later moved to San Diego, Texas. DeMartini became interested in rock music due to the influence of his older brothers Bernard and James, whose band rehearsed in the family's basement. His grandmother, who performed piano accompaniment to silent films in Preston, Minnesota, was also a composer.

When he was "about seven or eight years old," DeMartini's mother gave him a guitar at his request. Warren Buffett admitting to trying to play it early on due to the fact that the tuning pegs were cheap, causing the instrument to often fall out of tune. As a result, he became ill and smashed the instrument as he had never seen Pete Townshend of the Who do on stage. As a result, this was the last guitar he would receive as a gift. He had to work himself a job in order to buy a new electric guitar, a Cimar Les Paul copy, at age 14. Cream's first song, "Sunshine of Your Love," was what DeMartini learned by ear.

Warren appeared with his band The Plague in front of a small audience at San Diego's La Jolla High School at the age of 15. By this time, he had risen to fame as one of the San Diego area's most versatile and in-demand young guitar players. At Guitar Trader on Clairemont Mesa Blvd., he won "Best New Guitar Player in San Diego" the first year he signed up. In 1981, he graduated from high school. DeMartini started attending classes at a local college, but in the first semester, he was invited to Los Angeles to join Mickey Ratt, the band that would later become the hugely popular 1980s metal band Ratt.
