Theo Hutchcraft Career

Career

In Manchester, Hutchcraft met Adam Anderson and Scott Forster. They exchanged music and lyrics by e-mail for the first few months before forming Bureau in March 2006, alongside Flick Ward and Jamie Alsop. They appeared in May at The Music Box in Manchester and shortly thereafter signed to independent record label High Voltage Sounds. In November, they unveiled their first double A-side single "After Midnight"/ "Dollhouse," which was made Single of the Week on Xfm.

The Bureau disbanded in 2007, and Hutchcraft and Anderson formed the band Daggers shortly after. They signed to Label Fandango and released another double A-side single "Money"/"Magazine" in October, which despite losing to chart, was nominated for the Popjustice Twenty Quid Music Prize. During 2008, Daggers began to build a following and began collaborating with Biff Stannard and Richard X. But Hutchcraft and Anderson returned to Manchester to reflect on the band's future. They made "Unspoken" as a pair, a sad ballad, and they quickly realized that this was the sound they wanted to develop as a pair.

After not informing the rest of the band that it had been finished, they took a short break to Verona, Italy, where they claim to have discovered the term Disco Lento. The Daggers announced on their Myspace page in January 2009 that they had broken up.

Hurts, Hutchcraft, and Anderson's latest release, "Wonderful Life" features a female dancer who had responded to an advertisement in a store window. It went viral after they posted the video on their YouTube channel in April 2009. In July, they were signed to the RCA imprint Major Label, and they were released. The video has since over 21 million views on YouTube, putting it in the top-200 most watched videos on the internet.

Hurts came in fourth on the BBC's Sound of 2010 poll, and Zane Lowe's "Blood, Tears & Gold" became his first "Hottest Record in the World" shortly after. Hurts appeared at the Michalsky Stylenite in Berlin on January 22nd, and they appeared on February 22nd at St Phillips Church in Salford, where they performed eight songs. Wiltons Music Hall, London, and Berlin and Cologne, Germany, were followed immediately by live performances.

Hurts were invited to appear at the MAD Video Music Awards ceremony in Athens in front of 11,000 people on June 15th, following their huge success on Greek radio. It was also revealed in June that Kylie Minogue was touring with the band. She recorded a verse and backing vocals for the song "Devotion," which was supposed to be included on the band's album. Hurts performed "Confide in Me" for newspaper The Sun's website in 1994, and has since been a fixture on their gig setlists. In Radio 1's Live Lounge, Kylie later paid back the compliment by recording a version of "Wonderful Life."

Hurts' debut album Happiness was released in September 2010, debuting in ten European countries and selling over 1 million copies worldwide. Hurts have also sold more than 1 million singles around the world. Happiness debuted at number four on the UK Albums Chart in its first week on sale, selling 25,000 copies in its first week on sale, making it the first week on sale by a band in 2010. Hurts' fifth album, 'Faith,' was released on Lento records in 2020.
