Steven Pienaar Life

Steven Jerome Pienaar (born 17 March 1982) is a South African former professional footballer.

He was a captain of the South African national team.

He primarily played as a winger, but also played as an attacking midfielder.

Pienaar played at club level in South Africa, the Netherlands, Germany, and England for Ajax Cape Town, Ajax, Borussia Dortmund, Everton, Tottenham Hotspur, Sunderland and Bidvest Wits.

Pienaar is currently serving as an international ambassador at former club Everton.

Personal life

Pienaar is from the mixed-race South African community known as Coloureds. He is commonly referred to by his nickname "Schillo" in South Africa, a childhood nickname given to him by friends after the exploits of Totò Schillaci during the 1990 World Cup.

Pienaar's ex-girlfriend Danielle Steeneveld attempted to sue Pienaar for ZAR10.8million in August 2009 for not marrying her. Pienaar was charged with drunk-driving and failure to comply with a traffic sign in central Liverpool in February 2010. He was subsequently found guilty of driving whilst under the influence of alcohol and was banned from driving for 12 months.

In April 2012, a warrant was issued for Pienaar's arrest after he failed to appear before Chelmsford Magistrate's court on two counts of speeding.

In the run up to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Pienaar was involved in a high-profile Adidas sportswear advertising campaign.

Steven Pienaar Career

Club career

Pienaar was born in Johannesburg. He began his work in Ajax Cape Town, 1,400 kilometres (870 miles) away from his hometown. When he wasn't playing for Ajax CT, he was urged to enroll in their youth academy.

"I was very fortunate to attend the School of Excellence 2000, to be able to refine the art and the talent that God had given me, as well as how to use it in the way that God intended." "I was lucky to work with Leo van Veen, who helped me with Ajax Cape Town." He loved the way I played, but at the same time, he changed my mental attitude. He taught me how to prepare for games, not just playing to please the crowd but also how to play for the team."

He won the Rothman's Cup at Ajax Cape Town after defeating the Orlando Pirates 4–1 in the final on December 13, 2000, the club's final game for the club.

Pienaar was transported to the Netherlands in January 2001 but did not make his Eternity debut until February 24, 2002, a 1–0 win over NAC Breda. He was a key member of the Ajax squad in 2002 and 2004, shining as one of Ajax's finest players alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Maxwell, Cristian Chivu, Mido, Nigel de Jong, Rafael van der Vaart, Rafael van der Vaart, Rafael van der Vaart, Rafael van der Vaart, and Wesley Sneijder, as well as future Everton teammates John Heitinga and Andy van der Meyde.

Borussia Dortmund, a German club, in January 2006, signed Pienaar of the Bundesliga to a three-year deal from Ajax. Pienaar's first year as a replacement for Arsenal-bound Tomár Rosick, the Czech playmaker's second year with Dortmund saw him lose the number 10 shirt. Pienaar, on the other hand, struggled at Dortmund and never felt fully accepted by the other players at the club.

Pienaar joined Everton on loan from 2007-08 and later signed a three-year deal with Dortmund for a pre-agreed fee of £2 million after paying an initial loan fee of £350,000 in April 2008. Pienaar made his Everton debut against Wigan Athletic in August 27, 2007, overtaking Leon Osman in the 73rd minute as a substitute. In a 2–0 home win over Middlesbrough on September 30, Pienaar scored his first Everton goal. He had some standout performances, and many clubs expressed an interest in him.

Despite missing 11 games due to injury, Pienaar was named Everton's Player of the Season for 2009–10.

Both Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur had bids accepted to purchase Pienaar from Everton before the South African joined Spurs for a four-year contract. In a 1–1 draw against Newcastle United, he made his Tottenham debut. Pienaar sustained a groin injury in August 2011, ruled him out for six weeks. In a 4–0 victory over Irish side Shamrock Rovers in the Europa League on December 15, Pienaar scored his first goal for Spurs.

Pienaar's time at Tottenham was marred by persistent injuries and no effect in games, resulting in him not to play in the squad much.

Pienaar completed his return to Everton on a six-month loan contract, despite being late on transfer deadline day in January 2012. In a 2–0 win over Chelsea a week later, he made his second appearance for the club in a 1–1 draw away from Wigan Athletic, scoring his first goal of his loan spell. Pienaar ended the season by scoring against Newcastle United, a man who said in a post-match interview that he wanted to return Everton. Despite playing in 14 games and being cup-tied from the FA Cup, Pienaar's tenure ended with six goals, the most at Everton for the season. He also scored four goals, his joint-best tally in the league for Everton.

Everton agreed to a permanent transfer in July 2012, but Tottenham paid Tottenham a £4.5 million fee. He scored his first goal since signing permanently on August 25, 2012, opening the scoring in a 1–3 away victory over Aston Villa. Pienaar defeated Everton's 1,000th goal in the Premier League on December 9th, winning 2–1 at Goodison. Pienaar was banned from two bookable offences against Queens Park Rangers and Manchester City earlier this season. Everton defeated QPR 1–1 and City 2–0. Pienaar scored seven goals in the season's first season with Everton. Pienaar recovered from a hamstring injury two months ago against Hull City as a replacement, scoring the winning goal just ten seconds later. Despite Everton's 2013–14 season as a leader in 72 Premier League points, Pienaar suffered with injuries in key areas and only scored one goal and two assists in the matches he did participate in.

Pienaar made few appearances in the last two seasons over the next two seasons, but he was released by Everton after his deal came to an end in 2015.

Pienaar signed a one-year deal with Sunderland on August 19, reuniting with former boss David Moyes. At the end of the season, he made 17 appearances and his deal was not renewed. He returned to South Africa after signing a one-year contract with Bidvest Wits in July 2017, but was released six months later. In March 2018, he retired from competitive football.

International career

Pienaar, a youth international, made his international debut for South Africa against Turkey in 2002, defeating Turkey 2–0. He earned 61 caps and scored three goals in his international career. Pienaar competed in the 2002 and 2010 World Cups, the latter on home soil.

Pienaar announced his departure from international service on October 2, 2012.

Coaching career

Pienaar's former manager, Nana Tutu, started coaching at SV Robinhood in the Netherlands, after retiring. He completed his UEFA A licence in September 2019 and, as a Trainee Coach, returned to AFC Ajax in December 2019.

By the roadside, there are 'guns, medications, and dead bodies.' Everyone wanted to be a gangster, so I went for football. Ronwen Williams, a South African penalty king, was on his way to fame

www.dailymail.co.uk, February 22, 2024
INTERVIEW BY SIMON JONES: For Ronwen Williams, the crackle of gunfire when playing football was normal. On the way home, there was the sight of a dead body lying on the roadside. Williams is South Africa's goalkeeper and captain. He grew up in Gelvandale, Gqeberha, which was previously known as Port Elizabeth, where police have been fighting a losing battle against increasing crime figures for years.
