Bernard Parker Career

Club career

Parker, a graduate of the School of Excellence, made his debut in the professional ranks for Cape Town's Hellenic FC, which was later purchased and renamed Benoni Premier United. He remained with Thanda Royal Zulu F.C. after the club was renamed and relocated to Durban. He didn't get a transfer to Serbia's National Cup Champions Red Star until early 2009. His stay in Belgrade was cut short due to reports that the club had cash balance issues and owed to owed players' salaries.

Parker joined FC Twente in July 2009 and was a member of the Dutch 2009–10 Ethnic League. Parker failed to convince new coach Michel Preud'homme of his abilities after Twente manager Steve McClaren's move to Bundesliga, and therefore spent the first half of the 2010-11 Dutch season largely on the bench. He came to Leicester City on trial in December 2010 with the intention of a permanent move away from the Dutch club. He migrated to Panserraikos, F.C., on January 18, 2011. After the 2010–11 season, he went on loan, to get more game time, and then back to FC Twente.

Parker selected the latter over the other teams after receiving offers from Swedish clubs Malmö FF and Helsingborgs IF, as well as South Africa's Kaizer Chiefs. Parker scored 12 league goals in 28 games and finished runner up to Katlego Mashego, who had 13 goals and helped the Chiefs to a league and cup double in the 2012-2013 season. With ten goals, he won the Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot for the second season.

Parker spent more than a decade with the Kaizer Chiefs, but the club decided not to renew his deal that was set to end on June 30th 2022. In 350 appearances, he has scored over 60 goals.

Parker joined TS Galaxy on a two-year deal in August 2022.

International career

Bernard Parker scored his first goal against Malawi in 2007, scoring his first goal against the same team in 2008. He scored both goals in a 2–0 victory over New Zealand in the 2009 Confederations Cup on June 17, 2009, and was also given the Man of the Match award. He competed in the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, but the team was disqualified after the group stage. He competed in the 2013 African Cup of Nations hosted in South Africa.

Parker scored an own goal in a 2–1 loss to Ethiopia on June 16, 2013 that ended South Africa's hopes of qualifying for the 2014 World Cup. Earlier in the game, he had led South Africa by 1–0. In the 56th minute, Parker also scored by chipping the ball over Váctor Valdés in the 56th minute in a 1–0 victory over the Spanish national and European champions Spain, where it won the World Cup in 2010. Parker received the top goalscorer award at the 2014 African Nations Championship with four goals from three group matches.
