Sayumi Michishige (Michichiche Horie), a former sixth-generation member and former leader of the Japanese-pop group Morning Musume, was born on July 13, 1989.

Michishige's longest tenure in the organization's history has come following the departure of fifth-generation member Risa Niigaki on October 12, 2013.

She joined Morning Musume in 2003, along with Eri Kamei, Miki Fujimoto, and Reina Tanaka, who all debuted with Morning Musume on the group's nineteenth single, "Shabondama."

Koharu Kusumi, the seventh generation of Koharu Kusumi, was named mentor in 2005 before Kusumi left the organization in December 2009.

Michishige was also a member of Hello! Ecomoni, a project unit of the Morning Musume Foundation, and former Morning Musume member Rika Ishikawa are among the project's key people. She portrays herself in more television shows, often identifying herself as the cutest person in Morning Musume and claiming that her cuteness overwhelms her poor singing voice.

Early life and family

Michishige is from Ube, Yamachi. She is the youngest child in the family, and she has an elder brother and an elder sister.

Michishige appeared in the Love Audition 2002 held by Up-Front Agency in the hunt for new members for the Japanese female idol group Morning Musume. Tens of thousands of contestants registered, but only four were selected in the final stage. On January 19, 2003, Michishige, Eri Kamei, Miki Fujimoto, and Reina Tanaka were admitted to Morning Musume as sixth-generation members.

She was enrolled in Morning Musume Otomegumi just weeks after the group was temporarily divided so it would appear in smaller towns, thus reaching a larger audience of fans who could not otherwise watch them live. "Non Stop" appeared on the Morning Musume Concert Tour in the spring, she and the other sixth-generation participants made their first concert appearance on the Morning Musume Concert Tour 2003 Spring "Non Stop!" Kei Yasuda, a second-generation member, was at the dismissal service.

The sixth-generation members (with the exception of Miki Fujimoto) published their first photobook and corresponding DVD on July 16, 2003, all shot in Hawaii as part of the Alo Hello! campaign.

That same year, she was selected to mentor seventh-generation member Koharu Kusumi, with whom she formed a pair named Rainbow Pink in 2006. Michishige began hosting a radio show named 'Mega-chan Peace' in October 2006, following colleague Miki Fujimoto's footsteps. Michishige's show consisted of answering fan mail and being in several games, one of which involved a given word/expression in reverse and giving general advice to her listeners.

Longing (also Doukei), Michishige's second solo photobook, was released on January 15, 2007. In an effort to convey a more mature picture of the seventeen-year-old idol, a school uniform, swimsuit, a simple one-piece, and wet yukata/bathrobe shots were included in the book.

Michishige appeared on a television show on January 3, 2009, namely the Otona Gakuryoku Kentei SP (adult Knowledge Test Special) quiz show. For the first time since she joined Morning Musume, Michishige appeared as an outsider on a television show, namely the Otona Gakuryoku Kentei SP (, Adult Knowledge Test Special) quiz series. A group of 30 people (including former v-u-den member Yui Okada and former second-generation Morning Musume member Mari Yarin) assembled to answer a string of questions gathered from elementary school textbooks. She took her best guesses out of 60 questions to rank 22 (37%) and 29th overall, placing 29th in the overall polls. Michishige was selected to be a member of the newest shuffle group zoku v-u-den, a revival of v-u-den, as well as Risako Sugaya (also of Morning Musume).

Sayumi Michishige was named the new Morning Musume leader after Risa Niigaki left May 18, 2012.

Michishige's degree from Morning Musume and Hello! took place on April 29, 2014, during the Morning Musume 14 Concert Tour Haru: Evolution concert in Yamachi. The project was launched. During Morning Musume's Fall 2014 concert tour, she is likely to leave. With her departure for Morning Musume's Fall 2014 concert tour, the group was only one of the three most recent generations after the introduction of the fourth-generation members in 2000. She graduated from Morning Musume and Hello! on November 26, 2014. Mizuki Fukumura was named project leader on the initiative, and in her absence, she was named project leader.
