Personal life
Kangnam's office reported that he and Olympic speed skater Lee Sang-hwa were dating on March 16, 2019. After appearing on the SBS version of Law of the Jungle ("in the Last Indian Ocean") segment, they got to know each other. Kangnam declared on August 11, 2019, that he would forfeit his Japanese citizenship and started the process of becoming a naturalized Korean citizen. Kangnam married Lee on October 12, 2019.
In February 2022, Kangnam became a South Korean citizen.
