Sayaka Akimoto (秋元 才加, Akimoto Sayaka, born July 26, 1988 in Matsudo, Chiba) is a Japanese actress and singer who was a member of the Japanese idol girl group AKB48, where she had served as the captain of Team K and the AKB48 sub-unit Diva.

She was born to a Japanese father and a Filipino mother.

Early career

Akimoto was born to a Japanese father and a Filipino mother. For the second year in a row, she ran the Tokyo Marathon and gave the proceeds to the Philippines. Ari no Mama is her solo book of photographs. Akimoto was appointed as the Goodwill Philippine Tourism Ambassador on June 26, 2014, in order to promote the Philippines as a tourist destination in Japan. In addition, she was featured as a narrator in "Halo Halo House-Jose's Nippon Diary" on PTV-4 and Nippon television.

Akimoto began her career in AKB48 as one of the first team members of Team K's second generation, but she was recalled after completing the Tokyo Marathon in 2011. Yuko Oshima replaced her as the captain of Team K via team shuffle on August 24, 2012.

She has since been a member of Diva, a subunit group under Avex. She appeared on Waratte Iitomo, a family-owned noon television show from 2010 to 2012. She appeared on AKB48's own anime television show alongside Minami Tako Oshima, Yuko Oshima, Tomomi Itano, Atsuko Maeda, and others.

On April 7, 2013, Akimoto announced on her official website that she would not be voting in AKB48's 2013 general election and would not be focusing on her acting rather than AKB48's. Nico Nico Namahousou's graduation ceremony took place on August 22 at the Tokyo Dome, and her final stage appearance was held on August 28 at the AKB48 Theater.

In 2014, she reunited with her sub-unit DIVA for the final single "Discovery," an album, and a tour before disbanding.

"Little Witch" was produced and performed by her on the NHK 2014 Spring Campaign Theme Song.

She has appeared in four films since being out of AKB48. Bikuu in Garo, a recurring role, resulting in a solo film spin off in 2015. "Sengetsu Hikari to Yami no Soba de" is the film's theme song.

In the reality competition show Ultimate Beastmaster, which was released on Netflix on February 24, 2017, Akimoto was a co-host for Team Japan.

2014–present: Solo career
