Randeep Hooda Life

Randeep Hooda (born 20 August 1976) is an Indian actor and equestrian.

He is best known for his contributions to the Hindi film industry, and he has been nominated for two Stardust Awards and a nomination each for the Filmfare and the International Indian Film Academy Awards. Hooda, a native of Rohtak, Haryana, attended Motilal Nehru School in Sonepat, where he began participating in school plays.

He completed a postgraduate degree in human resource management in Melbourne, Australia, and on his return to India, he began modelling and acting in theatre productions.

Mira Nair's Monsoon Wedding (2001) was his debut Hindi film.

However, no recognition came his way, and he continued to appear in a string of critically and commercially inept projects, including D (2005) and Karma Aur Holi (2011), which culminated in his nomination for Best Supporting Actor in Mumbaai, which earned him the IIFA Award for Best Supporting Actor nomination.

His leading roles in thrillers Jannat 2 (2012) and Jism 2 (2012) earned him acclaim at the box-office as he continued to receive accolades for his roles in films such as Highway 2014 and Sarbjit (2016). Hooda has appeared in numerous stage plays and made his debut as a playwright in a version of Lee Blessing's A Walk in the Woods, in addition to his film career.

He is also a qualified equestrian who regularly participates in polo, show jumping, and dressage competitions.

He won a silver medal at an open dressage competition in New Delhi that was sponsored by the Equestrian Federation of India.

Early life and background

Randeep Hooda was born in 1976 into an Indian Jat family. Dr. Ranbir Hooda and Asha Devi Hooda are two of Randeep Hooda's parents. His father is a surgical surgeon and his mother is a social worker. He spent the majority of his childhood in their hometown when his parents travelled extensively and lived in the Middle East for the most part. He has an elder brother, Anjali Hooda Sangwan, a medical (MBBS) doctor educated in India and the United States, as well as Sandeep Hooda, a Singapore Software Engineer.

He was educated at Motilal Nehru School of Sports (MNSS), a boarding school in Rai, Haryana, where he competed in swimming and equestrian sports and gained medals at national level. Hooda developed an interest in theatre and appeared in school plays, one of which he directed. In an interview with Rediff.com, he said he loved being in front of people. However, his family wanted him to become a doctor, so he was admitted to Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram in New Delhi. Hooda described the change from an environment in which he was well-known to one in which he was not. It was described as "difficult."

After finishing his education, Hooda moved to Melbourne, Australia, where he studied for a bachelor's degree in marketing and a master's degree in human resource management. He worked as a waiter, a car wash, and as a taxi driver for two years. Hooda returned to India in 2000 and worked in an airline's marketing department. He began acting and acting in amateur theatre in Delhi. Mira Nair, a director who's rehearsing for To Teach His Own, approached Hooda to audition for a role in her forthcoming film. Randeep Hooda rose to prominence thanks to his friendship with Sushmita Sen, with whom he eventually broke up.

Media image and personal life

Hooda is one of India's most popular celebrities, despite his fame as an intense performer. He ranked 21st in The Times of India's annual list of the 50 Most Desirable Men in 2010. According to a worldwide online poll conducted by Internet Movie Database (IMDb), he came in fifth on the "20 most beautiful guys in the world" list in 2011. Hooda, who was surprised and grateful, said he was not influenced by such words; "I want people to know me for my body of work, not just my body." Being sexy will always be an advantage, not the ultimate goal of an actor. During his early years in the industry, people saw him as a "explosive Jat boy" who had a systematic approach to his work, according to Mid-Day. "Now, I'm a bit more cautious," he said. I've changed the way I express myself."

Hooda grew up in a hostel from a young age; he said, "I've always had a good time; it's something that gives me my energy and fuels my spirit as well." Now, I want my parents to live with me, but I want to enjoy their company more." He said he had a positive relationship with his parents, who live in Faridabad, and that their openness to everything has supported him in life. "He inspires me as an actor not necessarily my work but my art," he says of Naseeruddin Shah, his "mentor, friend, and confidant." "He's also the one who opened my eyes to acting."

Hooda appeared on Miss Universe and actress Sushmita Sen from 2004 to 2006. He later said that ending their marriage changed his career; "The break-up was the best thing that happened to me, but I realized that I gave it too much time in my life." It gave me a sense of being self-sufficient."

Randeep Hooda Career

Film career

Hooda made his acting debut in Mira Nair's film Monsoon Wedding (2001), portraying a non-resident Indian from Australia. Although the film was a critical and commercial success, Hooda waited four years for a second project. In the meantime, he worked in theatre and appeared in television commercials to help him financially. Naseeruddin Shah's imagination and improvisation workshop at the National School of Drama in New Delhi was also assisted.

Hooda's participation in Ram Gopal Varma's D.O.B. in 2005 received critical praise; Taran Adarsh said, "D would not be what it is without Randeep." He changes his expressions like a chameleon's, and that's where he scores." Darna Zaroori Hai (2006), Risk (2007), Ru Ba Ru (2008), and Love Khichdi (2009), among others, followed D. Hooda.

The year 2010 was a turning point in Hooda's career; he appeared in Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, a period drama depicting the rise of organised crime in Mumbai. In the film, Ajay Devgn, Emraan Hashmi, Kangana Ranaut, and Prachi Desai all co-starred. Hooda played a police officer. Critics also lauded his role in the film. Sudish Kamath of The Hindu likened his screen presence to that of Amitabh Bachchan's, adding that "[he] chews the scenery around him with [...] his baritone firing away dialogue as if he were born to play this role." Komal Nahta, a film critic, described him as a "revelation" in his own right. The film was a critical and commercial success, grossing over 780 million (US$9.8 million) in India. Hooda credited his subsequent success to the film, saying that his career prospects had significantly improved since being cast. He had been on sabbatical from performing before this role and said that it had "brought me right back in a big way." Now that more producers and production houses are looking at me as an actor with greater roles and a longer film presence."

Hooda appeared in Tigmanshu Dhulia's romantic thriller Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster, alongside Jimmy Shergill and Mahie Gill the following year. Critics gave the film (and his portrayal of a gangster who falls in love with a married woman while working as her chauffeur) rave reviews. "My inspiration for this character goes back to my roots in Haryana," Hooda said in a video chat with Digital Spy. My uncles were drivers, and I was thinking about those days and people around me." "Randeep Hooda has the best personality of his career so far," says Nikhat Kazmi of The Times of India; Garauv Malani wrote, "and has a huge scope to showcase his prowess." He has a passion, aversion, feelings, and expressions that are simply fantastic."

Kunal Deshmukh's crime thriller Jannat 2, a sequel to Jannat (2008), was Hooda's first film in 2012. Critics and Hooda praised Jannat 2 for his work. "The actor gives yet another knockout appearance," Taran Adarsh said. In several scenes, he leads you to believe that if given the opportunity, the guy will steal the show from the best of actors." "Randeep Hooda is the best thing about the film," Sonia Chopra of Sify said. It was a commercial success, with an international audience of over 410 million (US$5.1 million). Hooda's next appearance was in Pooja Bhatt's erotic thriller Jism 2 opposite Sunny Leone. Critics divided the film and Hooda's performance. Hooda "smolders to the best of his potential in the role of a violent criminal," Lisa Tsering of The Hollywood Reporter said. "The normally faithful Hooda goes a little overboard with all the emotion," Rajeev Masand, who was less impressed by his appearance, wrote. "He alternates between melancholic and hyper, sparking the bulk of the film's unintended laughs. Jism 2 was a modest commercial success, grossing over 500,000 (US$4.4 million) in India.

Madhur Bhandarkar's drama Heroine, starring Kareena Kapoor, in which he played cricketer Angad Paul, was Hooda's last film of the year. Arunoday Singh was selected for the position ahead of principal photography, but for unknown reasons, it was discredited. Multiple celebrities (such as Ranbir Kapoor, Imran Khan, and Pharrik Babbar) were among those speculating about certain actors, but Bhandarkar later revealed that he chose Hooda after seeing his appearance in Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster (2011). Hooda's role was lauded by the critics, but the film received mixed to critical feedback. "Randeep, as normal does justice to his role," Kanika Sikka of Daily News and Analysis said. At the national and international box office, the film did not do well.

In Vishesh Bhatt's Murder 3, the official recreation of the 2011 Colombian thriller The Hidden Face, Hooda appeared opposite Aditi Rao Hydari and Sara Loren. Critics generally disagreed with Vikram's portrayal (a fashion and wildlife photographer)'s film and his portrayal. Hooda "is hundreds of shades lighter than his ability to enact a character," a Mint report said. In ten days, the film earned a worldwide gross of 250 million (US$3.1 million), much more than averaging grosser. Later this year, Hooda appeared in Ketan Mehta's biographical period film Rang Rasiya, based on the life of 19th-century Indian painter Raja Ravi Varma. Hooda appeared in the thriller John Day with Naseeruddin Shah. In a segment directed by Karan Johar for the anthology film Bombay Talkies, he appeared alongside Rani Mukerji and Saqib Saleem. The film was released as a tribute to India's 100th year of cinema and was shown at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival.

Hooda appeared in Imtiaz Ali's Highway in 2014 opposite Alia Bhatt. He avoided speaking with her for about 25 days to get used to his body, who had a distant connection with Bhatt's character. He lent, "authenticity to his character," according to Parmita Uniyal of Hindustan's praises Hooda's "nuanced yet controlled" appearance. Salman Khan and Jacqueline Fernandez co-starred in Sajid Nadiadwala's action film Kick. The film debuted as one of Bollywood's top blockbusters of 2014, grossing $4.2 billion (US$53 million). Ungli, the Emraan Hashmi and Kangana Ranaut actor, was Hooda's last year as an actor. Critics also panned the film as a result of a company's demise and was panned by critics. Shubha Shetty Saha, the fim's potential Mid-Day critic, said the film would have been "wonderful" if not for its "downright idiotic" dialogue. In Prawaal Raman's 'Main Aur Charles, Hooda portrayed serial killer Charles Sobhraj. It was told from Amod Kanth, the cop who handled his lawsuit but was also based on his 1986 escape from prison. Critically, the film was released in India on October 31st, 2015, with mostly positive feedback from critics.

Hooda appeared in four films in 2016, the first one being the drama thriller Laal Rang, which was based on illicit blood trading. The film was a box office failure and attracted a lukewarm response from critics. Hooda's role was praised as the film's only bright spot. Omung Kumar's biographical drama Sarbjit Singh was his next release, in which he portrayed Sarabjit Singh, who was arrested by Pakistan and later sentenced to death by their Supreme Court for suspected terrorism. In 28 days of preparation for the job, Hooda gained eighteen kilograms of weight in 28 days. Critics generally supported the film at its premiere at the 69th Cannes Film Festival, but there were mixed reactions from critics. Hooda is "terrible," Anupama Chopra said. Sarbjit was a box-office hit. Do Lafzon Ki Kahani of Deepak Tijori alongside Kajal Aggarwal was the next release for Hooda. The film was a commercial and cultural disappointment, and it was a critical and commercial failure. Sultan's last film release of 2016 was the sports drama Sultan, co-starring Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma, where he appeared as Sultan's coach. It is one of India's top grossers with earnings of over $5 billion (US$63 million).

After a two-year absence, Hooda appeared in Baaghi 2 in 2018. He was filming a film based on the Battle of Saragarhi, but the venture was ultimately scrapped after being stranded in development hell for more than three years.

Hooda made his Hollywood debut with the American action-thriller film Extraction (2020), starring Chris Hemsworth and Goldshifteh Farahani. On April 24, 2020, the film was released. In the first month of release, Netflix predicted that 90 million viewers would be watching the film.

Hooda appears in Radhe, a Salman Khan film and Unfair & Lovely opposite Ileana D'Cruz, a societal satire on fairness. Both the films are set to be released in 2021.
