Paul Black Career

Early life and career

Black's roots were in bluegrass, and he was born in San Francisco, California. Your Mother, a high school rock band, formed in the 1970s. He has appeared in many jazz cover bands as well. He was a percussion major at San Jose State University in 1978.

In May 1980, Black moved to Los Angeles, where he then went by Paul Martin Marmorstein, while still using his given name. Mad Captions, who competed against CBGB in New York and The Hot Club in Philadelphia, was his first L.A. band. Paul formed The Mau-Mau's, a Los Angeles-based punk band fronted by Rick Wilder of The Berlin Brats, in 1981. During Paul's stay at The Mau-Mau's, he shortened his name to "Paul Mars." Paul played drums on a Mau-Mau's record, which was never released by Robbie Krieger of The Doors. Paul Mars joined The Joneses in 1984 and recorded the drums for Keeping Up With The Joneses.
