Daniel "Dee" Snider (born March 15, 1955) is an American singer-songwriter, screenwriter, radio presenter, and actor.

Snider came to fame in the 1980s as lead singer and songwriter of the heavy metal band Twisted Sisters.

He was ranked 83 in the Hit Parader's Top 100 Metal Vocalists of All Time.

Early life

Snider, born in Astoria, Queens, New York City, was raised in Freeport, New York, and Baldwin, New York, both on Long Island. Bob's father, Bob, is a retired New York State Trooper and Nassau County court clerk, and Marguerite, his mother, is a retired art teacher. His father is Jewish, while his mother is from a Catholic family of Swiss descent. He is also of Ukrainian descent from his grandfather. Since his mother joined the church, Snider and his siblings were raised Episcopalians.

As an infant, he performed in a church choir, several school choruses, and a high school concert choir. Snider was also selected for the All-State Chorus for singing. In 1973, he graduated from Baldwin Senior High School.

Personal life

Since 1981, Snider has been married to Suzette, a costume designer, and they have been married. They have four children, Jesse Blaze Snider (born September 19, 1982), Shane Royal Snider (born February 29, 1989), Cody Blue Snider (born September 19, 1989), and Cheyenne Jean Snider (born October 31, 1996) who was in the band They All Float. He also has four grandchildren.

"I was born and raised a Christian, and I still adhere to those principles," Snider said in 1985's Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC) Senate hearings.

Vincent Gargiulo, Snider's brother-in-law, was assassinated in 2003. In 2009, the killer was apprehended.

Snider lived in East Setauket, New York, for part. Shane and Cheyenne were on MTV Cribs in 2005 to introduce his Long Island home, as well as two of his four children.

In a TMZ interview in 2008, he said in a TMZ interview that he would vote for Barack Obama because John McCain (whom he adores and supports for many years) will not condemn George W. Bush's administration's errors.

Snider tweeted that he is "pro-choice" and that being Christian and "pro-choice" are mutually exclusive on July 11, 2013.

During his "Rocktopia" performance at the Broadway Theatre in New York on April 9, 2018, Snider dedicated "We're Not Gonna Take It" to teachers in the aftermath of teacher strikes in West Virginia and Oklahoma. Dee Snider Career

Career

Snider joined Twisted Sister in early 1976 and became the band's sole songwriter. Under the Blade, the group's first studio album, was released in September 1982, and it has since gained a following in the United Kingdom. Twisted Sister's second album, You Can't Stop Rock 'n' Roll, was released less than a year ago. Stay Hungry, the band's third album, debuted on May 10, 1984. With hits such as "We're Not Gonna Take It" and "I Wanna Rock," the band's most popular album has been released. Snider introduced a metal-inspired drag with long blond curly hair, an excessive amount of eye shadow, and rouge, a beauty mark, and vibrant red lipstick to emphasize the "twisted sister" image.

Heavy Metal Mania was the first MTV program to feature purely of heavy metal videos in the mid-1980s, well before the premiere of Headbangers Ball. Snider hosted the first episode in June 1985. It contained metal news, interviews with metal artists, and in-studio co-hosts. Twisted Sister came out and Play in November last year in the United States, but it was interrupted by a bad concert tour.

Snider was instrumental in the 1985 Children's Rights Center (PMRC), which wanted to implement a parental warning system that would mark all albums containing offensive content. The PMRC had picked out a list of songs titled "Filthy Fifteen" to warn young people of the risks of such propaganda to youth, including Prince's "Darling Nikki," Madonna's "Dress You Up," and Venom's "Possessed" among other items on the list ahead of PMRC's appearance in Congress. The PMRC suggested a system involving letters that identified the types of objectionable material to be found in each album (e.g., "O" for occult themes, "X" for sex and profanity, "D/A" for drugs and alcohol, "V" for violence, etc.) Snider, John Denver, and Frank Zappa all testified against censorship and the new warning system. Despite the fact that the device was never implemented, the hearing culminated in the music industry's adoption of what is now the generic "Parental Advisory: Explicit Content" tag.

The PMRC included public figures such as Tipper Gore, Senator Al Gore's wife, and Susan Baker, the wife of then-Secretary of State James Baker. Tipper Gore and Snider developed a public enrage as a result, with Snider accusing her of having a "dirty eye" for claiming that "Under the Blade"'s lyrics contained sadomasochistic undertones when they were in fact about medical surgery. Tipper Gore also accused Snider of fabricating evidence concerning the band's clothing when she said, "the t-shirts that kids wear" featured "Twisted Sister and a woman in handcuffs sort of spread-eagled." Snider challenged her to produce such a shirt, to which Al Gore said "the word 't-shirts' was plural"; one of them related to Twisted Sister, the other refers to a woman in handcuffs."

Love Is for Suckers, 1987, was Suckers' fifth Twisted Sister album. The record was supposed to be a Snider solo effort, but Atlantic Records promised a release under the Twisted Sister name. Snider's departure from the band lasted only through October, and on the 12th of that month. Snider formed Desperado, an ex-Iron Maiden drummer Clive Burr, ex-Gillan guitarist Bernie Torme, and bassist Marc Russel during this period. Ace, the group's sole album, has never been released, but it was heavily bootlegged on CD under the heading Bloodied But Unbowed.

Snider, a good friend of Twisted Sister and drummer on the album Love Is for Suckers, as well as Al Pitrelli and Marc Russel, formed Widowmaker in the 1990s. The quartet's two albums with limited underground success, titled Blood and Bullets and Stand By For Pain. Snider's SMFs, a "self-tribute" band formed in the late 1990s, performed occasionally with ex-Twisted Sister drummer A.J. Pero: Snider, Derek Tailer, Charlie Mills, Keith Alexander, and Spike were among the usual suspects on the line.

He created the The Terrible Thunderlizards' theme song in 1993. "I lost every penny I made" by 1994, Snider said, by his own admission. I was riding my bike to a desk job for $200 a week answering phones in an office."

Snider launched The House of Hair, a syndicated 1980s hard rock/heavy metal radio program on over 200 radio stations around North America, in 1997. The United Stations Radio Networks has syndicated it. "If it ain't metal, it's crap!" a radio station announces during the show's runtime.

Snider wrote "The Magic of Christmas Day (God Bless Us Everyone)," a song that Celine Dion recorded for her album These Are Special Times in 1998. According to Snider, Dion was unaware of who wrote the song. He also wrote and appeared in Strangeland, a horror film from 2005. Snider has also contributed to the script for a sequel titled Strangeland: Disciple. Snider, however, was less positive that it would ever see the light of day in January 2008, saying in a Bullz-Eye.com interview that said, 'Y'got ten million dollars?' Give me a call. I've got the script ready to go. I'm attached to Robert Englund's message, I'm attached. Call me if someone is serious and wants to make it. But please don't call me until you're ready to hand over the check.' Snider revealed on his radio show "The House of Hair" that Strangeland: Rising Sons would launch in 2009, and that it was originally planned for a 2010 launch. In a fall of 2016, Snider said that there is still no progress on the construction of Strangeland: Disciple.

Snider hosted a morning radio show on a Hartford, Connecticut Clear Channel station, Radio 104 (104.1 FM WMRQ), from June 1999 to August 2003. Snider Radio was on display at 104 (104.1 FM WMRQ). In August 2004, his show returned to television in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on 93.3 WMMR in August 2004. He fondly referred to his followers as his "Peeps" and "DEE" euro stickers, which were printed by the station, can be seen on the bumpers of his supporters' vehicles throughout Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts. Nick Lentino, Beth Lockwood, "Psycho Dan" Williams, Sean Robbins, and "Darkside Dave" Wallace were among the morning show's other participants. Ozzy Osbourne, pro wrestler Mick Foley, and Kiss singer/bassist Gene Simmons were all among his regular guests on Ozzy Osbourne's show.

Snider also appeared in the 2002 TV series Warning: Parental Warning. During his campaign to recall incumbent California Governor Gray Davis, he appeared alongside actor Arnold Schwarzenegger at political functions in 2003. "We're Not Gonna Take It," Snider performed on the Twisted Sisters' hit, which was not embraced by the Schwarzenegger campaign.

In the episode "Shell Shocked" for the Nickelodeon cartoon SpongeBob SquarePants, Snider also sang Angry Jack. During an hour-long tenth anniversary documentary of the show in 2009, he confessed to being a huge fan of the event, and being able to perform a character on the show was a tremendous honor. For The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, he changed the lyrics of his famous "I Wanna Rock" to "Goofy Goober Rock."

On VH1, film trailers, behind-the-scenes segments, and DVD special features, Snider narrates and hosts several shows and specials. In the bumpers for MSNBC's 2001/2002 "Fiercely Independent" branding campaign, he was featured as the "voice" in the campaign.

Snider collaborated on Van Helsing's Curse in 2003, a Halloween-themed venture. Oculus Infernum, Koch Records' first album, was released and featured a mixture of heavy metal and orchestral elements in the style of Trans-Siberian Orchestra. The band began touring in 2004 and later released a DVD of the event titled Live in Philly 05.

On Sirius Satellite Radio channel 102 from 9 to 12 Eastern, Snider returned to radio in June 2006 with Fangoria Radio.

In memory of the victims and survivors of the 2003 Station nightclub fire, Snider hosted VH1's 2008 "Aftermath" concert. Snider was named as a contestant on CMT's Gone Country during the winter of 2008. The show invited musical celebrities to compete against each other in order to win the chance to perform a country song. Snider appeared on the first episode of Kitchen Nightmares (Season 2) in 2008, when Gordon Ramsay selected him as part of the advertising for the Handlebar restaurant's relaunch.
