Niki Haris (born April 17, 1962) is an American actor, dancer, and jazz musician, perhaps best known for being one of Madonna's backing vocalists from 1987 to 2001 and as the guest lead vocalist on various Snap! In the early 1990s, singles were first introduced.

Early life and family

Haris was born Gina Nichole Haire of Benton Harbor, Michigan, on April 17, 1962, the granddaughter of Grammy Award nominated jazz artist Gene Harris. She studied in Southern California before embarking on a singing career in amusement parks and clubs in the California area.

In 2003, Haris gave birth to Jordan Ann, the daughter of her late mother. Jay King, a member of Club Nouveau, producer, songwriter (and Karyn White's boss), is the father.

Music career

Haris, a friend and back vocalist for Madonna, began performing with Madonna on her Who's That Girl Tour, and began performing with Madonna. She appeared in the film Truth or Dare, a documentary about backstage and onstage footage shot during the Blond Ambition Tour. She appeared on Madonna's "Vogue" and "Music" series as well. Donna De Lory, Haris was involved in numerous Madonna tours, including Who's That Girl Tour (1987), Blond Ambition Tour (1990), and The Drowned World Tour (2001).

Haris was replaced by Siedah Garrett during the 2004 Re-Invention Tour. Haris' official word is that she "would like to concentrate on her solo career and family." Haris was also absent from Madonna's Confessions Tour, Sticky & Sweet Tour, MDNA Tour, and Rebel Heart Tour.

Her vocal film work appears on the soundtracks of Corrina, Corrina, The Big Green, Noises Off, Coyote Ugly, Urban Legends, Bloody Mary, and Anastasia. She has also written and performed two songs for the Fox series Dark Angel, which also includes television themes, as well as co-writing and performing two songs.

Haris performed with her father until his death, as well as promoting their albums, Down Home Blues and In His Hands and Jazz Alley Cats.

Haris has appeared at benefit events for AIDS, cancer, and Camp Harmony for inner city children. She is a sponsor for the Music in the Classroom program and Rockers Against Drunk Driving, as well as an annual participant in the Season of Nonviolence. In 2008 and 2009, Niki has appeared on television shows including: The Democratic National Convention 2008, CNN, Fox Network, and Fuse TV.

Haris has collaborated with many artists, including Michelle Branch, All Saints, Whitney Houston, Kylie Minogue, Anita Baker, Anita Baker, Raymond Lennon, Prince, Mick Jagger, LeAnn Rimes, Matthew Lavigne, Miranda Manson, Madonna, Snap!, Michael Bernard Beckwith, and Ani DiFranco. On a track called 'Kinder' on Donna De Lory's 2013 album, Niki appeared on Donna De Lory's 'Kinder'.

Choreographer and acting career

Haris choreographed the MTV Awards for Madonna, as well as providing additional choreography on The Girlie Show and the television version Melrose Place. Sharon Stone appeared in Basic Instinct and was assisting with stage scenes.

Haris has appeared in lead roles in Truth or Dare and appeared in the film Heat.

For Pee-Wee's Playhouse Christmas Special, Niki appeared and sang backing vocals.
