Early life
Jamal was born in Baku on September 7, 1980, as Nigar Mutallibzadeh. She earned her degree in 1997 and spent three years at Khazar University, majoring in economics and management. Nigar Jamal had been a housewife for five years before embarking on herself as a singer. Jamal claims she is inspired by Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, Brandy Norwood, Craig David, and Chris Brown.
Career
Milli Seçim Turu 2011, 2010, was one of the Azerbaijan national selection in December 2010. Her first appearance in Heat 7 was in joint first with 11 points, as well as Ilhama Gasimova, who both qualified to the semi-finals. Jamal qualified from the semi-finals along with four other artists to the final on February 11, 2011, where she and Eldar Gasimov earned the right to represent Azerbaijan at the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 in Düsseldorf, Germany. They performed under the pseudonym Ell & Nikki's album "Running Scared," written by Stefan rn and Sandra Bjurman from Sweden and Iain Farquharson from the United Kingdom, which received a total of 221 points.
After winning the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 Jamal and Gasimov have been able to visit a number of countries and perform their winning entry. 15,000 postage stamps in Azerbaijan's denomination of 1 Azerbaijani manat were issued. In Azerbaijan, the production of postage stamps was in honor of Eldar and Nigar's 2011 victory. In September 2011, it was announced that Nigar would appear in an episode of the Turkish comedy series Yahachi Cazibe.
She was one of five musicians from Azerbaijan chosen as the jury in the Danish national selection for their 2012 Eurovision contestant.
Nikki performed her first post-Eurovision solo song and video clip "Crush on You" on December 1, 2011 on December 1st. Later, more new material was released, including a duet with Miri Yusif titled "Qal" ("Stay") and another duet with Eurovision 2008 winner Dima Bilan entitled "Come Into My World."
