Misia Life

Misia (Misha), born July 7, 1978), also known as MISIA, is a Japanese musician, songwriter, and record producer.

Misia, a Nagasaki native, moved to Fukuoka at the age of 14 to pursue a recording career.

She continued her secondary education and briefly attended Seinan Gakuin University before deciding to focus on her musical interests.

After auditioning for record producer Haruo Yoda, she was signed to BMG Japan in 1997. Following the introduction of her debut album, Mother Father Brother Sister (1998), she became Japan's seventh best-selling Japanese debut album of all time, winning her two Japan Gold Disc Awards and one Japan Record Award.

Misia's sophomore album, Love Is the Message, gained her another Japan Gold Disc Award and Japan Record Award in 2000.

"Everything" was her third studio album, and Marvelous (2001) was her first number one single on the Oricon singles chart.

The album is the third best-selling physical single in Japan by a Japanese solo female artist of all time. Misia and her boss, Rhythmedia, signed a recording deal with Avex in 2001 and created their own brand, Rhythmedia Tribe.

Kiss in the Sky, Misia's first album under Rhythmedia Tribe, became Misia's fourth consecutive number one album on the Oricon charts.

Misia made history by becoming the fourth solo female artist with the longest streak of number-one albums since their debut.

Misia returned to her former record company, BMG Japan, following a string of hit songs, including Mars & Roses, Singer for Singer, and Ascension.

Misia moved to Ariola, Japan, following Sony Music Entertainment Japan's acquisition of BMG Japan. Misia has released thirteen studio albums and is one of the best-selling Japanese musicians, with more than 30 million albums.

She is one of Japan's top-touring artists, becoming the first female artist to perform in all five of Japan's biggest stadiums in 2004.

Misia is best known for her vocal range and has been dubbed the first Japanese R&B superstar.

Misia is also a committed philanthropist and participates actively in social causes and biodiversity conservation.

Early life

Misia was born on July 7, 1978, to parents who were both doctors. BusinessWeek announced in 2002 that Misaki Ito (, Ito Misaki) was her real name, though her official site displays only her stage name. Her father adored jazz, and her mother adored Western music. Both her parents were involved in vocal studies as a child.

She grew up in Tsushima, Nagasaki, and began learning piano at the age of four under the guidance of her elder brother and her elder sister. She joined the local choir at the age of 9, and she discovered her five-octave singing voice while attending her older sister's private music lessons. She aspired to be a singer from childhood and won a competition in Fukuoka later that year.

She began to want to leave Tsushima, where she was unable to get enough information about music, and wanted to take voice lessons in Fukuoka. She then left her house and moved to Fukuoka with her elder sister, where she attended high school. She played the trumpet and played the trumpet in the brass band band program at junior high and high school.

Along with going to a music academy, she also attended two Black American vocal coaches there when she was in the 11th grade. She began training with them in gospel and R&B. She was accepted into Seinan Gakuin University in commercial science in April 1997.

Misia was finally accepted at a BMG Japan audition in May 1997 to discover a soulful female R&B singer. Dreams Come True singer Misia performed "Goodbye Darlin" and was selected from a field of over 3,000 applicants. She chose to pursue a music career rather than school education, and took a leave of absence from university to pursue a music career. Since her image of an R&B singer is based on dreadlocks, she spruced her hair in a dreadlocks, she wore her own hair in the way that November does. At the start of her musical career, she used the stage name "MISIA."

Misia debuted on February 21, 1998 with "Tsutsumi Y" ni," the highest on the Oricon single charts, peaking at number 11.

Her second single "Hi no Ataru Basho" debuted at number 9 and was included in the film Hood's soundtrack. Mother Father Brother Sister, her first album, was released on June 24, 1998, debuting at number 3 and topping the charts after 4 weeks. At the Japan Gold Disc Awards in March 1999, she received Best New Artist of the Year and Best Pop Album of the Year.

Love Is the Message, Misia's second album, was released on January 1, 2000, and it has since gone on to sell over 2 million copies. "Everything" was her most well-known song in October, which has sold nearly 1.9 million copies in October.

Misia's hopes came true with the release of "I Miss You (Toki o Koete), a collaboration with Dreams Come True, her favorite band. The music was produced by her and Masato Nakamura, the DCT's leader, although Misia wrote the lyrics. On January 1, 2001, the single was released.

She began working with Avex Group in 2002, converting to Rhythmedia Tribe, a new record label.

"Kokoro Hitotsu" by her single "Kokoro Hitotsu" was released on August 27, 2003, as the theme song to Dragon Head's hit film.

She finished The Tour of Misia Discothèque Asia in early March, a tour that took her to Seoul, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Shanghai, and opened her eyes to the different crowds' reactions, but young couples in Singapore began to kiss. I often see Japanese couples hand in hand, but it is rare to see them screaming for each other in front of others.

Misia attracted nearly 200,000 fans in 2008, second only to Ayumi Hamasaki in the number of concertgoers in Japan for a solo female artist.

Misia's "Ginga/Itsumademo" single in June 2009 was inspired by her grandfather's visit to the United States for the final time before his death, for which she wrote on the back of his book, "I thanked him for taking me out for a walk when I was a teenager, for showing me how to fold origami and make shadow pictures, and for telling me tales." "Hoshizora no Live VI" on Misia's 2010 tour included performances in the open air and within forests in order to raise conservation concerns and help her with her anthropological research.

Misia recorded the song "Maware Maware" and performed it at Nelson Mandela Square in Johannesburg prior to the Japan vs. Cameroon game on Sunday. She was also inspired by the International Year of Biodiversity and composed the song "Life in Harmony," which was later chosen by the Convention on Biological Diversity to be the conference's song.
