Vanness Wu (Chinese: 吴建豪; pinyin: Wú Jiànháo; born August 7, 1978) is a Taiwanese-American actor, entertainer, singer, director, and producer.

He is a member of the Taiwanese boyband F4 and the Korean Mandopop duo Kangta & Vanness.

Early life

Wu was born in Santa Monica, California. He learned to breakdance as a teenager and competed in numerous dance competitions throughout the 90s.

Career

Mei Zuo (), one of the F4 members, appeared in the Taiwanese drama series Meteor Garden II, and its sequel, Meteor Garden II. They performed together and recorded three studio albums as the boy band F4 at the end of the series. After Vic Chou, Wu became the second F4 member to debut Body Will Sing, his debut solo album. On Hit Fm's annual Top 100 Singles Chart for 2002, "I Hate Myself" is at number 95. At the 2002 IFPI Hong Kong Album Sales Awards, the album was named one of the year's Top 10 Selling Mandarin Albums of the Year" by the Hong Kong branch of IFPI.

He appeared on Beyoncé's single "Crazy in Love" in 2003 and was featured on her album Dangerously in Love.

Wu made his film debut in Hong Kong's Star Runner in 2004 and was nominated at the Hong Kong Film Awards for Best Newcomer.

Kangta & Vanness was formed in 2006 by Korean singer Kangta. The pair released Scandal, a collection of songs.

Wu was named as the opening act and special guest for Kanye West's "Glow in the Dark" concert in Shanghai in 2008.

Wu has appeared in several Taiwanese dramas as well as motion pictures. Ren Guang Xi appeared in Autumn's Concerto, one of Taiwan's highest-rated idol dramas, in 2009. He also performed his first Japanese single "Only," which made it to the top ten on the Oricon Chart, as well as another single "I Don't Want A Lose You."

Wu made a successful debut in the television series Year of the Rain in 2010.

C'est La V, Wu's third Chinese solo album, was released in July 2011 under Universal Music Taiwan. It features collaborations with international artists such as Ryan Tedder from OneRepublic, as well as Bruno Mars and Justin Michael, who wrote the song "Knockin."

Wu is also the designer/engineer of his own jewelry line 3.V.O.7, in addition to producing, directing, producing, acting, and singing. He is also the creative director of Reebok (greater China division).

Wu received the "Best Crossover Singer" award at the 16th Chinese National Music Charts in 2012.

Wu won the silver medal in 2013 after being part of Jiangsu TV's diving variety show Stars in Danger: The High Dive.

Wu was selected one of the judges of Asia's Got Talent in January 2015, along with Indonesian-French singer Anggun, Canadian musician David Foster, and former Spice Girls member Melanie C, who appeared on AXN Asia from March to May.

Wu returned to the Philippines in July 2015 after a decade of his first visit to Levi's #LiveinLevis exhibition in conjunction with the launch of the Women's Denim Collection in Fall 2015. Wu's appearance was a way of thanking the brand's followers and style seekers.

Wu will appear in his first Chinese television series The Princess Weiyoung alongside Tiffany Tang, portraying the 5th century emperor and then Emperor Tuoba Yu of the Northern Wei Dynasty. Pili Back, a science fiction film, was also in Pili Back. He and his sister Melody appeared together in the third season of The Amazing Race China, based on CBS' reality show of the same name, where they were eliminated on the ninth leg and finished 4th.

He appeared in Ip Man 4: The Finale in 2019, alongside Donnie Yen, in which he appeared Hartman Wu, a US Marine Corps Staff Sergeant and Bruce Lee's student.
