Early life
Rose was born in Los Angeles, California, in 1987 to two artists; her father was session guitarist Kim Bullard, and her mother did backing vocals. As rose to prominence, Rose recalls spending time in the recording studio, meeting Alanis Morissette, Weird Al Yankovic, the Goo Goo Dolls, and Tori Amos. At the age of 13, Rose began composing musical works of her own, gaining the attention of several record labels. She has signed to V2 Records and released her debut album Because I Can.
Music career
Because I Can, Rose's debut album, was released on January 27, 2004, on her 17th birthday. The album was preceded by the single "Overdrive," which earned Top 10 airplay in France, Switzerland, and South Africa, in addition to becoming a Top 40 hit for adults in the United States. In addition to prominently being included on the film's soundtrack, the song appeared in the 2004 film Mean Girls. In Agent Cody Banks, Dawson's Creek, and Grey's Anatomy, other songs on the album were included.
Rose spent two years with the Cardigans, Liz Phair, and the Calling. She appeared with N.E.R.D. while on tour. Avril Lavigne and Iril Lavigne. "Overdrive" ranked No. 1 in Japan's airplay chart and ranked No. 1 on MTV's Top 20 Video Countdown, and made MTV's Top 20 video countdown.
