Karen Zoid (born Karen Louise Greeff on August 10, 1978) is a South African rock singer, guitarist, guitarist, composer, and host of a talk show host.

Her work in both English and Afrikaans has received critical praise, and several leading local newspapers have dubbed South Africa's "Queen of Rock" her.

According to the media, her followers and, more broadly, the South African youth have also been referred to as the "Zoid Generation."

The singer is also known for presenting the kykNet television series Republiek van Zoid Afrika, as well as being one of the judges on The Voice SA.

Early life

Zoid was born in Brussels as a South African diplomat before heading to Johannesburg. She attended the National School of the Arts in the United Kingdom before moving on to study drama at AFDA. She dropped out of university to concentrate on music in 2001.

Personal life

Don Reineke, a former band member with whom she had a child in January 2007, married Zoid in 2004. In 2010, the couple divorced.

Poles Apart, Zoid's first album, was released by EMI in June 2001. "Afrikaners is Plesierig," a song on the album, has since gained renowned fame in South Africa, entered the local dialect and been named as one of the top South African songs by the Sunday Times, one of the 100 greatest South African songs. Chasing the Sun, her second album, and her third, Media, 2005. After she left EMI and signed with Just Music earlier this year, her fourth album, Postmodern World, was released in August 2007. Sony launched Ultimate Zoid, a two disk set of hits from her previous albums, as well as a live recording. In 2010, Sony announced terms and Conditions. Zoid Afrika was first published in 2012 by Karen Zoid Productions, Zoid's own production firm.

On the audio entertainment of international flights to and from South Africa, Zoid's albums have been included. She has also written for television, with two of her songs appearing in the 2006 film "Number 10." She received the SAMA Award for Best Female Solo Artist on May 3rd, 2008. Karen Zoid attended President Thabo Mbeki's inauguration in 2004 and 2009, as well as Jacob Zuma in 2009.
