He first made an appearance in Korean girl group AOA Black's music video for "Moya" in 2013 and officially debuted through the TV series Bride of the Century the next year.
He gained recognition for his supporting roles in 2017 television series While You Were Sleeping and Prison Playbook.

Jung Hae-in's third great-grandfather is Jeong Yak-yong, a great thinker of the later Joseon period. He graduated with a degree in Broadcasting Entertainment Department at Pyeongtaek University, where he participated in various activities including musical plays.
He enlisted in the military when he was twenty-one years old. He signed a contract with his agency after being discharged from the military and graduating from college.
Career
Jung's first acting experience came from a musical in college, but his resolve to become an actor was born when he was in the military service, and he shed 12 kilograms in order to realize his dream. He made his debut at the age of twenty-six.
Jung appeared in the indie film The Youth in 2014 and later appeared in the television series Bride of the Century. He appeared in The Three Musketeers, the same year. He appeared in small roles and appeared in numerous television series and films from 2014 to 2016. As Kim Go-eun's first love, he was one of his memorable appearances in Guardian: The Lonely and Great God.
Jung made news in 2017 when he appeared in the fantasy romance film While You Sleeping. He was ranked as the number one searched term on Korean portal website Naver during its airing. In the same year, two of his historical films, The King's Case Note and Conspiracy: Age of Rebellion, were released. He was the next actor in the black comedy series Prison Playbook, where he received acclaim for his role as an imprisoned Army captain accused of assaulting a soldier in his unit who later died.
Jung appeared in another historical film Heung-boo: The Revolutionist, where he played King Heonjong. He appeared in Something in the Rain, his first leading role in the romance drama Something in the Rain starring Son Ye-jin. Jung saw a rise in Asia after the drama's airing.
