Jess Walton Life

Jess Walton (born February 18, 1949) is an American actress best known for her role as Jill Abbott on CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless.

In addition, she appeared in the 2018 film Christmas with a View.

Early life

Walton was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, but she was raised in Toronto, Canada, where she attended Loretto Abbey Catholic Secondary School. At the age of 17, she left home and joined a Toronto theater company. She went to Hollywood in 1969 and moved to Universal Studios for the next year.

Personal life

Walton was married to John James, author and founder of The Grief Recovery Institute from 1980 to his death in August 2021. "Before John James, I had always gone for bohemian, rock and roll styles," Walton said in an interview. John didn't fit the picture; he was straighter. Walton and the couple had two children but they now reside in Oregon.

Walton dated one of Joni Mitchell and Crosby's managers, Stills, Nash & Young, for a brief period, and Laura Nyro and Neil Young performed with them and other musicians, including Laura Nyro and Neil Young. Walton recalled a memorable moment in which Nyro taught Walton and Mitchell how to belly dance. Walton claims that one of the houses on Joni Mitchell's Ladies of the Canyon cover belonged to her.

Walton was a good friend of her Y&R co-star Jeanne Cooper, who portrayed Jill's arch-rival Katherine Chancellor from 1973 to her death in May 2013.
