Jah Prayzah Life

Mukudzeyi Mukombe (born July 4, 1987) is a Zimbabwean contemporary musician and lead singer of Third Generation. He appears under the stage name Jah Prayzah.

Fans and media alike refer to him as "Musoja," the Shona word for "older," a title he primarily earned for his distinctive band uniform of military regalia.

The word "Jah Prayzah" derives from his name, "Mukudzeyi," which means "Praise Him."

Early life and education

Mukombe was born and raised in Uzumba, Murehwa, a small town about 95 kilometers from Harare, Zimbabwe's capital. He is the last born in a family of five children. As a youth, he loved writing, reading his father's Shona books, swimming in the river with friends, and exploring the woods. He'll be back home with his shorts torn from all the climbing and adventure every day. He liked to sing, but most importantly, he liked to sing. He developed this habit by attending school assemblies and at church, as well as playing the mbira with his instructor Mupa Musimbe. Mukombe became more confident and inspired as he grew older, as his mbira skills improved, and he felt encouraged to continue his musical interests. People started to see his natural talent in music and language, and they encouraged him to be serious with it.

In Mutoko, Mukombe went to Musamhi Primary School and then Musamhi High School, which followed in Mutoko's Mashonaland East Province. He then moved to Harare, where he stayed with his uncle and later completed his normal and advanced education.

Personal life

He is married to Rufaro Chiworeso, who performed in his song Rufaro. They have a son and three children. He also has a son from his previous marriage. Mukombe said in 2012 that his mother adored him after throwing her a US$7,000 birthday party in 2012.

Jah Prayzah Career

Music career

Mukombe's first exposure to composing music was during his early years of high school. He began to record dancehall and reggae tracks with his friends, but he was unable to succeed in the national music scene. With DJ Thando and other local artists, he later released singles such as "Sorry Mama" and "Seiko."

In 2005, he began his career. Sungano, his first commercially launched album, was released in 2007. Rudo neRunyararo and Ngwarira Kuparara's are two more albums on sale. The former was commercially successful and contained the singles "Maria" and "Dande," the latter of which featured Chiwoniso Maraire. Ngwarira Kuparara's business was fruitful, and he was given a job for the Wednesday slots at a local Harare pub called Jazz 105.

He released his fourth album Tsviriyo in 2013 and received a National Academy Award for Best Music of the Year for the song "Gotchie Gotchi." In 2014, he released Kumbumura Mhute. In the same year, he received five NAMA awards and two ZIMA awards.

In 2015, Jerusarema, his sixth studio album, opened in the United States.

His most notable contribution was a joint effort with award-winning Tanzanian artist Diamond Platnumz on his hit song "Watora Mari," which saw over a million views on YouTube in less than a month after its debut. On MTV base and Trace Africa, "Watora Mari" has received a lot of airplay.

Mukombe's eighth studio album, Chitubu, was released on November 2, 2018. Patoranking and Sauti Sol are among the album's collaborations. In 2019, Mukombe was nominated for the Best Male Artist in Southern Africa by the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMAs).
