Arijit Singh (born 25 April 1987) is an Indian playback musician.

He sings predominantly in Hindi and Bengali, but he has also performed in many other Indian languages.

Singh is known as one of India's most versatile and lucrative performers, and filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Kumar Taurani introduced him to the profession in 2005. He received nominations for the Upcoming Male Vocalist of the Year award at the 2013 Mirchi Music Awards for renditions of "Phir Le Aya Dil" and "Duaa," the former winning the award for the latter.

Singh's "Tum Hi Ho" and "Chahun Main Ya Naa" were released in 2013.

Spotify named Singh as the year's most popular Indian artist.

Early life

Arijit Singh was born in Jiaganj, Murshidabad, West Bengal, on 25 April 1987, a Punjabi Sikh father and Aditi Singh, a Bengali mother, were born in Jiaganj, Murshidabad, West Bengal. During the Partition, his paternal family came from Lahore. He started practicing piano at a young age at home. His maternal aunt was trained in Indian classical music, and his maternal grandmother used to sing. His maternal uncle played the tabla, and his mother also performed and played the tabla. He attended Raja Bijay Singh High School and later at Sripat Singh College, a University of Kalyani affiliate. He was "a decent student but I was more concerned about music" than "kids," and his parents wanted to educate him properly. He was taught Indian classical music by Rajendra Prasad Hazari and received his tabla by Dhirendra Prasad Hazari. Birendra Prasad Hazari taught him Rabindra Sangeet (songs written and composed by Rabindranath Tagore) and pop music. He began training under the Hazari brothers at the age of three, and the government gave him a scholarship for education in vocals in Indian classical music at the age of nine.

He listened to Mozart, Beethoven, and Bengali classical music as a child. Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, Ustad Rashid Khan, Zakir Hussain, and Anand Chatterjee were all idolized by the singer, and he loved listening to Kishore Kumar, Hemant Kumar, and Manna Dey.

Personal life

Singh married Koel Roy, a childhood friend and a neighbor of his. They have two children. Singh lives in Andheri, Mumbai, India. Singh claims that he is not a musician, a writer, a film buff, and a documentary maker. Sachin Tendulkar, Lance Klusener, Sourav Ganguly, and Jonty Rhodes are among his favorite sportsmen. He is a dieter of football and a self-proclaimed Manchester United fan. He has also expressed his desire to perform the anthem for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Aditi Singh, Singh's mother, was accepted and underwent therapy for COVID-19 but died as a result of a cerebral stroke on May 2021.

In an interview, Singh said he would love to help people by his NGO named "Let There Be Light," which works for the Below Poverty Line (BPL) group. His NGO aims to include activities such as blood bank camp (with evidence and photos of all the blood being delivered properly), and clothing, books, stationery, etc. On a large scale and seasonal human ground activities, the children below Poverty Line children will be able to read below.

Early career

Singh's musical journey began when his guru, Rajendra Prasad Hazari, who believed that "Indian classical music was a dying art," begged him to leave his hometown and participate in the reality show Fame Gurukul (2005), which is now in its sixth decade. He was voted out of office by audience polling and finished in sixth place.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali, a filmmaker, knew his talent and invited him to perform "Yun Shabnami," a song that would be used in his forthcoming film Saawariya. The script was modified during recording, and the song was no longer required. It was never announced. Kumar Taurani, the head of Tips, signed Fame Gurukul for an album that never appeared.

He appeared on another reality show ten Ke 10 Le Gaye Dil, winning. He went from Mumbai to freelance in 2006 and stayed in a rented room in the city's Lokhandwala district. He used the winning money from 10 ke 10 Le Gaye Dil to build his recording studio. He became a music producer and began composing music and singing pieces for magazines, news channels, and radio stations.

Singh spent a part of his early musical career as a music arranger and music arranger for musicians including Shankar–Ehsaan–Shekhar, Vishal–Shekhar, Mithoon, Monty Sharma, and Pritam. He supervised the vocals and the chorus sections while playing with other composers, but it was only while working with Pritam that he began to produce and program music by himself.

Career

Singh began working with Pritam on three films, including Golmaal 3, Crook, and Action Replayy. With the song "Neeve Na Neeve Na" composed by Sandeep Chowta, he began with singing scratches in the Telugu Film Industry with the 2010 film Kedi. Singh made his Bollywood debut in 2011 with Murder 2's "Phir Mohabbat," though he originally appeared in 2009 when it was first published in 2011. Pritam begged him to perform as well as Agent Vinod's "Raabta" from 2012 the same year. In all four versions of the song, the part was preserved, but in one of the versions, he was required to perform the entire composition. Other films released during the year include Player, Cocktail, and Barfi!

In 1920, he appeared on Chirantan Bhatt's "Uska Hi Banana." Singh had sung the song "Uska Hi Banana" in a very high pitch, according to Glamsham's analysis.

In the film Shanghai, he sang of Vishal Shekhar's composition "Duaa." The Mirchi Music Award for Upcoming Male Playback Singers was given to him. He was nominated in the same category as "Phir Le Aya Dil" from Barfi!

Singh's breakthrough came in Aashiqui 2 where he was a lead and primary vocalist and came to fame with the debut of the film's "Tum Hi Ho" song. Including the Best Male Playback Singer at Filmfare, the song received numerous awards and accolades, including the Best Male Playback Singer. His three songs from Telugu film Swamy ra ra gained a following in the same year.

Singh continued to work with Pritam, singing "Dilliwaali Girlfriend," "Kabira," and "Ilahi" for Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. Other than singing the encore version of "Kabira," he was the music arranger of the album, as well as "Balam Pichkari" from the same film. Singh sang the song "Main Rang Sharbaton Ka" for Phata Poster Nikhla Hero, Pritam's composition as well as his R... Rajkumar's "Dhoka Dhadi" (Dhoka Dhadi).

In the song "Kashmir Main Tu Kanyakumari," composed by Vishal-Shekhar, he performed for Shah Rukh Khan. Apart from presenting the duet version of "Har Kisi Ko" from Boss and Neeti Mohans' year with Sharib–Toshi's "Kabhi Jo Baadal Barse" from Jackpot, and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's semi-classical number "Laal Ishq" from Goliyon Ki Raasleela: Ram-Leela, the year marked his year in terms Singh selected "Kabhi Jo Baadal Barse" as one of his favorite songs, choosing "Tose Naina" from Mickey Virus as "closest to his heart."

Singh had the opportunity to work with Sajid-Wajid and A. R. Rahman in 2014. He performed two tracks on Main Tera Hero and the song "Raat Bhar" from Heropanti for Sajid-Wajid, and also dubbed the Hindi version of the song "Medhuya" from Kochadaiyaan "Dil Chaspiya" for A. R. Rahman's "Dil Chaspiya." He performed three remixed songs "Hungama Ho Gaya" for Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Sharib-Toshi's "Samjhawan"), "Mast Magan" for 2 States, "Mast Magan" for 2 States, "Jiya" for Gunday, and Arko Pravo Mukherjee's "Hawan" for Hate Story 2 as well as "Ma" for 2's Singh performed with Vishal Bhardwaj, recording two songs from Haider and in "Jaise Mera Tu" in Happy Ending, as well as with Sachin–Jigar's "Jaise Mera Tu." During the year, he sang for Mithoon on "Humdard" for Ek Villain and "Hai Dil Ye Mera" for Hate Story 2. He appeared on "Manwa Laage" for Happy New Year as well as Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy on "Sajde" for Kill Dil, as well as Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy on "Manwa Laage" for Kill Dil. He performed two songs on Sharib-Toshi's Zid and on three tracks for Pritam Chakraborty's Holiday, which was planned by Singh himself. Jeet Gannguli's song Muskurane received him the most awards for the year, while Sufi's "Suno Na Sangemarmar" and Sufi's "Mast Magan" received two Filmfare nominations. Singh sung "Gulon Mein Rang Bhare" (originally written for Haider by Mehdi Hassan) as his year's favorite track.

Singh made his Tamil debut in 2015 with the song "Neeye Vaina" from the film Pugazh. He was also a vocalist for Roy's Dance song "Sooraj Dooba Hain," which was written by Amaal Mallik and written by Kumaar. It was dubbed the Year's "Party Anthem." During the year, he performed his duet "Agar Tum Saath Ho" with Alka Yagnik from the film Tamasha, which is directed by A. R. Rahman and written by Irshad Kamil. On the track "Khwaishein" from Calendar Girls, he performed with Amaal Mallik. Singh, along with Shreya Ghoshal, collaborated with Gannguli and Bobby-Imran for Khamoyan, where he appeared in the film's title song. For Gannguli and "Tu Har Lamha" he sang "Baatein Ye Kabhi Na" and "Tu Har Lamha" for Bobby-Imran. He worked with Gannguli on two other projects; "Teri Khushboo" for Mr. X and Hamari Adhuri Kahani's title track. He spent time on "Chunar" and Sachin–Jigar with Bann Chakraborty, Khamosh Shah, Jatinder Shah, and Manj Musik, among others. In addition, Singh produced a tribute to Sonu Nigam's 1999 song "Deewana Tera" for Ek Paheli Leela. Singh and Himesh Reshammiya's first collaboration on All Is Well's "Baaton Ko Teri" was released earlier this year. He performed Bhardwaj from "Shaam Ke Saaye" and "Kya Pataa" for Talvar and Drishyam respectively, and he sang of Bhardwaj, as well as "Sooyan" and "Sooyan" from Guddu Rangeela. Singh's second promotional single was released this year, as well as recording soundtracks. The song, "Chal Waha Jain," is directed by Mallik and stars Tiger Shroff and Kriti Sanon. Singh also appeared in "Yaar Illahi – Qawwali" from the film Katyar Kaljat Ghusali, on his Marathi debut.

Chinmayi Sripada's "Sooiyan," written by Irshad Kamil and Amit Trivedi for the Bollywood film Guddu Rangeela, appeared in 2015. Arijit was the lead singer on the soundtrack of the 2015 film "Janam Janam." In the music video, he performed "Gerua," composed by Pritam and written by Amitabh Bhattacharya with Antara Mitra starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. On the film "Dilwale," he performed the dance song "Tukur Tukur," which was also well received by Pritam and written by Bhattacharya.

Arijit completed shooting for his debut in 2015. It is a Bengali feature film made with seven short films and titled Bhalobasar Rojnamcha. A work-in-progress version of the film, co-written by Singh, has been sent to several film festivals around the world.

Singh sang "Yeh Fitoor Mera," written by Amit Trivedi in early 2016. In its review, the artist called the song a trademark song from the Fitoor album. Singh's singing was also lauded by Firstpost. Singh performed "Satrangi Re" from the film "Wrong Side Raju, Gujarati.

Mithoon composed the songs, "Dharkhaast" from the film "Shivaay with Sunidhi Chauhan, and the lyrics were written by Sayeed Quadri. Singh and Sunidhi's singing in the Daily News and Analysis of their "Dharkhaast" song was lauded by the department's reviewer.

As the main vocalist on the film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil Singh, she performed the famous title track "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil," composed by Pritam Chakraborty and written by Amitabh Bhattacharya. "Channa Mereya" was also a hit on YouTube, with over 110 million viewers. "Nashe Si Chadh Gayi" from Befikre, he was a chartbuster from another chartbuster. On YouTube, the song's promotional video attracted over 330 million views.

At the end of 2016, he performed "Naina" from Dangal. Arijit Singh's "Naina song from Dangal will touch your heart," Zee News announced in its review, and Indian actor Varun Dhawan praised the song.

In 2017, he sang for Shah Rukh Khan and appeared in "Zaalima," written by Pritam's JAM8 and written by Amitabh Bhattacharya from the film Raees. Several teasers of the song were posted before its full debut. Salim-Sulaiman's compositions "Kuch Parbat Hilayein" and "Babul Mora," written by Amitabh Bhattacharya from the inspirational film Poorna, were recorded on his vocals. In its review of the film Rangoon, he rendered "Alvida" from the film Rangoon.

He performed "Roke Naina," written by Amaal Mallik of Badrinath Ki Dulhania, and "Namami Brahmaputra" (English: I Bow to the Brahmaputra), which flows in Assam and has a lot of cultural, economic, and social significance for the northeast Indian and Assamese people. He's "Haareya," a song from Meri Pyaari Bindu's Hindi film Meri Pyaari Bindu. The Begum Jaan's song "Murshida" was written by Rahat Indori and composed by Anu Malik.

Singh performed "Phir Bho Chaahunga," a Mithoon-produced song with lyrics by Manoj Muntashir from Half Girlfriend's soundtrack. Due to public demand, Zee Music Company was able to sell it before the stipulated date. He also performed "Pal Bhar," which is a re-envisioned and extended version of Phir Bhi Tumko Chahunga's song. Muntashir's book "Pal Bhar" is written by Muntashir and Mithoon composed by Mithoon.

He was the leading vocalist on the film Raabta's "Ik Vay Aa" composed by Pritam, and Amitabh Bhattacharya wrote the lyrics. The song is from Raabta's soundtrack. Singh performed his vocals and played acoustic guitar with Roland Fernandes on the album "Lambiyaan si Judayaan," which was also on the film's soundtrack. He performed "Tera Hoon," a JAM8 song composed by (Kaushik, Akash, Guddu) with lyrics by Bipin Das in the film Behen Hogi Teri.

He performed "O Saathi" with the music composed and lyrics written by Mithoon from the Hindi film Shab, as well as Neha Kakkar's dance number "Main Tera Boyfriend." Sourav Roy wrote it and composed it.

Singh, lead singer of Jagga Jasoos Soundtrack, wrote the song "Galti Se Mistake" by Pritam and written by Amitabh Bhattacharya, and Pritam's composition "Jhumri Talaiya" by Amitabh Bhattacharya. He also performed "Phir Wahi" from Jagga Jasoos, which was also written by Amitabh Bhattacharya.

He sang for Shah Rukh Khan and performed the dance song "Beech Beech Main" from the film Jab Harry Met Sejal with additional vocals from Shefali Alvare and Shalmali Kholgade, as well as "Hawayein," written by Pritam Chakraborty and written by Irshad Kamil. Singh's vocals in the song were described as "mesmerizing," according to Indian media.

He performed his song "Ve Maahi" with Asees Kaur from Tanishk Bagchi's film Kesari was released in March. By July 2019, the song had earned 200 million views on YouTube.

Neeti Mohan and Neeti Mohan's "First Class" and "Kalank" from film Kalank, which was penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya, was among the participants.

From the film Chhichhore, composed by Pritam and written by Amitabh Bhattacharya, he rendered "Khairiyat" from the film Chhichhore. In September 2019, it was announced.

From blockbuster film Kabir Singh's "Tujhe Kitna Lage hum" in 2019, his song "Tujhe Kitna Chahne Lage hum" is a hum.

Singh revealed on July 18, 2020, that he will begin making non-film music under the title "Oriyon Music."

He made an appearance in a Sunny M.R. music video. On July 30, 2020, the 'new single "Lifafe" will be released.

Singh's song "Dil Ko Maine Di Kasam" was released in August 2020, starring actors Asim Riaz and Himanshi Khurana.

Singh's first single "Rihaa" under his Oriyon Music banner on October 4th, 2020; alongside the Bengali version "Mukto Kore Dao" on October 10, 2020; with the Hindi lyrics written by Shloke Lal and the Bengali lyrics written by Singh himself.

Singh also performed "Aabaad Barbaad" and "Hardum Humdum" from Ludo. Anurag Basu's film is directed by Anurag Basu and composed by Pritam.

Singh and Raj Pandit performed "O Saayan" from the film The Power in early January.

Singh revealed on March 12, 2020 that he will be producing music for the film Pagglait under his banner Oriyon Music, marking his first attempt as a music composer in Bollywood. The soundtrack album was released on March 15, 2021, on various music streaming platforms. He has appeared in films such as 83, Tadap, Sooryavanshi, Bhuj: The Pride of India, etc.

Singh performed two songs from the film Radhe Shyam "Soch Liya" and "Aashiqui Aa Gayi" in January. Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghoshal have sung for the film Bachchan Pandey, directed by Amaal Malik and written by Kumaar. Singh sang "Kesariya" from the film Brahms, as well.
