Stella Chiweshe (also Stella Rambisai Chiweshe, Stella Nekhai Chiweshe, or Stella Nekati Chiweshe) was born in Mujumi Village, Mhondoro, Zimbabwe, on July 29, 1946.
She is best known for her singing and playing of the mbira dzavadzimu, Zimbabwe's traditional instrument.
She is one of the few female players of the instrument, who learned to play from 1966 to 1969 when even less female players played the instrument.
Music career
Chiweshe has appeared in Germany numerous times before, as well as in the WOMAD festival (1994 in the United States, 1995 in Australia, and 2006 in Spain). She and her daughter spent four years in England.
