Ahn Hye-jin (born July 23, 1995), better known by her stage name Hwasa, is a South Korean singer, songwriter, and rapper who has been signed under RBW.

Mamamoo, a South Korean girl group, is a member of the Mamamoo group.

With the digital album "Twit," Hwasa made her debut as a solo artist in February 2019.

Early life

Ahn Hye-jin was born in Jeonju, South Korea, on July 23, 1995, where she lived with her parents and two younger siblings. She graduated from Wonkwang Information Arts High School. When she opened up in an interview and said that after hearing someone say that she is unique and talented at singing, but not pretty, she went home and watched Beyoncé perform all night.

Even before her K-pop debut, a number of South Korean artists, including Solbi and the band Standing Egg, acknowledged her talent and included her on their tracks when she was 18.

Hwasa debuted on June 19, 2014 as one of the leading voices in the introduction of the lead single "Mr." Ambiguous" from their first extended play (EP) Greetings, everybody. "My Heart/I Do Me" was her first solo song written and produced by Hello.

"Be Calm," Hwasa's second solo album, was released in March 2018 as part of Mamamoo's sixth EP, Yellow Flower. The music video for the song was released on March 25, 2018, and it has received 7.9 million views as of August 2022. On the Gaon Download Chart, "Be Calm" charted at number 35.

The appearance on the Keyboard in April 2018 Hwasa appeared on KBS reality television show Hyena; the appearance prompted a friendship with rapper Loco titled "Don't." Hwasa contributed to the song's writing and composing, and it debuted on the Gaon Digital Chart in South Korea. In January 2019, "Don't" was awarded Platinum for 100 million streams and then for 2.5 million downloads in August 2019.

Hwasa made her debut as a solo artist on February 19, with the digital album "Twit," which she was involved in both writing and composing. The album was a commercial success, peaking on the Gaon Digital Chart and scoring a "Triple Crown" -- the top of the Gaon Digital, Gaon Download, and Gaon Streaming charts. "Twit" hit number three on Billboard's Top 100 on Billboard's Digital Song Sales chart for the week of March 2, 2019.

In October 2019, Hwasa released "In The Fall," a joint effort with South Korean hip-hop artist Woogie.

"Twit" was listed in Billboard's "The 25 Best K-pop Songs of 2019: Critics' Pick" at number 8 in December. "Twit" was also ranked at number 13 of 29 songs on Refinery29's "The Best K-Pop Songs Of 2019," and Rolling Stone India's "Top K-Pop Music Videos of 2019."

Hwasa collaborated with Dua Lipa, an English singer, on a version of Lipa's "Physical" (which includes Korean lyrics) in March 2020.

It was announced in April that Hwasa had joined the original soundtrack lineup of the Korean drama The King: Eternal Monarch and that she would debut "Orbit," her first solo soundtrack album. On May 2, 2020, the album debuted at number 16 on Billboard's Top Billboard World Digital Song Sales Chart.

Hwasa's debut EP, Maria, and the lead single of the same name were released on June 29, both on the same day. On July 11, 2020, the EP debuted at number seven on the Billboard World Albums chart and topped at number eighty-one on the Billboard Top Current Albums Sales charts. Hwasa and producer Park Woo-sang produced "Maria" as a lead singer, with the intention of showcasing her growth as a singer-songwriter. "LMM" was also written by Hwasa and wrote "Why" was composed. "Maria" hit number two on Billboard K-pop Hot 100 this week, and the week of October 3, 2020, it reached number 79 on Billboard Japan Hot 100, at number 79. "Maria" debuted at number six on Billboard's Top Digital Song Sales chart, behind Queen of the United Kingdom's top ten performers.

Hidden Singer, Hwasa, was one of the contestants for season six of JTBC's entertainment show Hidden Singer. Hwasa defeated by 79 votes in the final round, snapping four consecutive losing streaks from previous contestants and giving the singer her second victory as an original artist of the season.

How Do You Play, a MBC reality-variety film How Do You Play? Hwasa joined the cast of MBC's reality-variety show How Does Your Play? On October 10, she debuted with Refund Sisters, the project supergroup formed through Hangout with Yoo. "Don't Touch Me" was the band's debut single. For two weeks in a row, "Don't Touch Me" soared to the top of the Gaon Digital Chart for two weeks in a row.

In Billboard's "A Look Back at Billboard's K-Pop 100 Chart in 2020 and All Its Big Players" at the end of 2020, "Maria" was included in Billboard's article "A Look Back at Billboard's K-Pop 100 Chart in 2020 and "All Its Big Players" at the end of the year. "Maria" charted for 19 weeks in a row, making it the second most weeks in the chart's top-ten. "2020 Most Played Female K-Pop Artists," Spotify announced, and Hwasa was ranked 4th. "Maria" was then included in Paper Magazine's Top K-pop Songs of 2020, number 27. "Hwasa is well-known to many as a fearless person, but her single 'Maria' deconstructs that image, presenting a portrait of a young woman who is both vulnerable and confident, playful, and seductive." The article, "The Songs and Albums That Defined K-Pop's Monumental Year in 2020," Time magazine published an article titled "The Songs and Albums That Defined K-Pop's Monumental Year," the first to mention that "out of the solo debuts this year, Hwasa's "Maria" gives the most striking picture. The album is sultry and sultry, oozing with her distinct demeanor as she leads in her low-toned, rounded voice over syncopated drum beats." Hwasa's continued success earned her a spot in the "Top 100 Kpop Idols YouTube Worldwide Search Rankings for 2020."

Hwasa's first video, "Hwasa Official" on July 23, 2021, was released on YouTube.

Hwasa's lead single "I'm a B" was released on November 24, 2021.

Hwasa will collaborate on a new single "Somebody" with Loco, which will be announced on July 25, 2022.
