Gregory Shane Helms (born July 12, 1974) is an American professional wrestler who has joined WWE as a producer.

Helms' deal was retained by WWF as the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE).

Helms renamed himself "The Hurricane" and captured the WWE Cruiserweight Championship.

Rosey, his sidekick, was later discovered and they won the World Tag Team Championship together. In 2005, he dropped the superhero gimmick and began wrestling under his real name.

He won the Cruiserweight Championship in early 2006 and kept it for more than a year, becoming the longest-serving Cruiserweight Champion and the longest reigning champion of any kind in SmackDown history.

After being out of action for more than a year after neck fusion surgery, Helms returned to SmackDown in September 2008, referring to himself as Hurricane Helms before turning to the ECW brand where he reverted to Gregory Helms and became the backstage interviewer.

He brought back The Hurricane character in mid-2009 and appeared on the ECW as both Gregory Helms and The Hurricane.

Helms was first announced by WWE in February 2010, but he resurfaced in the 2018 Royal Rumble match as a surprise entrant.

Helms is a comic book enthusiast, and the Green Lantern is one of his favorite characters. He has a tattoo on his right shoulder, which is the Lantern's logo and his original WWE character, The Hurricane, is inspired by the Green Lantern. It was picked and inked the same days as his uncle, fellow pro wrestling student, and comic book enthusiast Mike Helm had the emblem of his favorite character, Green Arrow tattooed on his own bicep. He got a tattoo of his last name on his upper back in 2008. Helms also owns a motorcycle called "The Hurri-Cycle," which he got while using the Hurricane gimmick. Sports Illustrated published an article on March 19, 2007, describing a steroid and HGH ring used by a variety of pro athletes in various sports. Several current and former WWE wrestlers, including Helms, were alleged to have obtained HGH from the article, including Helms, who was accused of obtaining HGH. WWE has since released a statement in which it points out that the allegations predate WWE's launch of the Talent Wellness program in April 2006. Helms and nine other wrestlers were given growth hormones on August 30, 2007, according to a Sports Illustrated article. Between November 2003 and February 2007, he was reported to have obtained testosterone, HGH, and nandrolone.

Gregory Helms Career

Professional wrestling career

In 1991, Helms began wrestling at the age of 17. He won his first championship shortly after defeating "Playboy" T.C. Cruise will represent Southern Wrestling Alliance (SWA) Light Heavyweight Champion. Helms spent the majority of his childhood in North Carolina, winning numerous light heavyweight championships.

Shane Helms formed "The Show" and partnered with "Big Daddy" Mike Maverick, first using the team name Assault and Battery. They later dubbed themselves The Serial Thrillaz and went on to win several independent tag championships. The pair also started fighting in the Organisation of Modern Extreme Grappling Arts (OMEGA), which was established by The Hardy Boyz (Matt and Jeff). The Serial Thrillaz won the OMEGA Tag Team Championship twice between 1997 and 1998 before starting to compete for Southern Championship Wrestling (SCW). They earned the SCW Tag Team Championship, and Helms also placed in the SCW Heavyweight Championships. Both SCW and NWA Worldwide will see the end of the Serial Thrillaz as Helms vacated both titles before advancing to NWA Worldwide. Helms joined the Bad Street Boys with Shannon Moore, Christian York, and Joey Matthews once more.

Shannon Moore, Helms, and his buddy Shannon Moore signed with World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in May 1999. Helms, as well as Moore and Evan Karagias, created the heel (villainous) stable in WCW, and the trio debuted on the WCW Thunder stage on December 23. The trio was a parody of the boy bands 'N Sync and the Backstreet Boys,' and their gimmick involved making music videos and performing songs before their matches.

On Wednesday Nitro, a 3 Count collectively won the WCW Hardcore Championship. This victory took the first trio to win the Hardcore Championship by a landslide. Brian Knobbs won the Hardcore Championship at Uncensored. Helms sustained a fractured nose while watching a game and was forced to leave early as he recovered. Tank Abbott had been returned to the team as a fan and was used in an enforcer role. With the Dragons attempting to rob 3 Count's fictional recording deal, 3 Count had a long-running feud (scripted rivalry) with The Jung Dragons. This resulted in a ladder match between the two teams at New Blood Rising, which was won by Abbott due to his interference. As a result, Abbott argued that he should be the lead singer of 3 Count and was barred by the other three members, resulting in a feud.

As Moore and Helms kicked Karagias out of the party for attempting to steal the spotlight, the 3 counts were later disbanded. Jamie Noble, who formed a team with Karagias, was also on the Jung Dragons at the same time. The three teams met in Mayhem in a Triangle match that the 3 Counts won. In addition, the two teams competed against each other in a number one contendership ladder match at Starrcade, earning a WCW Cruiserweight Championship match in which both Moore and Helms won the competition at the same time. As a result, the pair later competed for the title, which Helms won, but Chavo Guerrero Jr. lost his championship match to Chavo Guerrero Jr. at the Sin pay-per-view.

Moore and Helms would leave WCW briefly in 2001 to compete in the NWA Wildside, where they won the Wildside Tag Team Championship for one day. Helms became the top contender for the Cruiserweight Championship after winning a match at SuperBrawl Revenge but Karagias and Moore followed him afterwards. Despite the assault, Helms would triumph over Guerrero in the WCW Cruiserweight Championship at Greed, and became the reigning Cruiserweight Champion shortly before the World Wrestling Federation banned WCW from the Wrestling Federation. Helms' WCW service was one of twenty-five people to be included in WWF's purchase of WCW.

Helms made his WWF debut on the SmackDown! episode on July 5, 2001. He used the term "Hollywood" Gregory Helms. As a member of The Alliance losing his Cruiserweight Championship in a one-on-one match to Billy Kidman, another Alliance member.

On August 27, Helms first appeared as "The Hurricane" on television and later began wearing a superhero costume. He won the WWF European Championship from Matt Hardy with help from Ivory on that night, but Bradshaw lost it to Bradshaw on October 22, 2001. Hurricane formed a tag team with Lance Storm in September 2001, and the two teams came together in Molly Holly to name herself "Mighty Molly." The team of Hurricane and Storm began to feud with organisations such as The Hardy Boyz, Big Show, and Spike Dudley. In a losing effort, Hurricane and Storm were battling The Hardy Boys at No Mercy in the WCW Tag Team Championship.

The Hurricane won the WWF Hardcore Championship at WrestleMania X8, but Molly betrayed him, smashing him in the back of the head with a frying pan and dismantling him for the championship. Hurricane was then sent to the SmackDown! Following the brand's extension, he won the WWE Cruiserweight Championship from Tajiri and Billy Kidman in a triple threat competition. King of the Ring, Jamie Noble, lost it to him. He was traded to the Raw brand, won the WWE Tag Team Championship with Kane, and was on lockout for about a month in a Hurri-Kane relationship.

Hurricane The Rock and Storm In 2003, they feuded with The Rock. The Rock referred to The Hurricane as "The Hamburglar" in backstage segments (in part because his mask was similar to the Hamburglar's). The feud came to an end on the WWE's March 10 episode, in which The Rock dominated. However, the Rock was able to roll up The Rock from behind after Stone Cold Steve Austin's appearance on the ramp distracted The Rock from behind.

Hurricane "discovered" Rosey's potential as a hero in late 2003 and christened him "Rosey, the Super Hero in Training" (the "S.H.I.T.). The Hurricane and Rosey defeated La RĂ©sistance in the finals of a Tag Team Turmoil match on May 1, winning the World Tag Team Championship. Stacy Keibler joined Rosey and The Hurricane as their sidekick, "Super Stacy," not long after winning the championship. When Rosey and The Hurricane were traded to the SmackDown in August 2005, she and Mr. Keibler were destined as their sidekick. brand. During Cade and Murdoch's debut match on Raw on September 5, 2005, Hurricane and Rosey were defeated by Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch. Cade and Murdoch also earned a championship match at Unforgiven's pay-per-view as a result. Murdoch led the Hurricane to the outside in a championship match. The DDT caused Hurricane to suffer a "stinger" and allow Cade and Murdoch to defeat the ill Hurricane later in the game to win the World Tag Team Championships.

The pair began losing streaks over the next two weeks, primarily due to Hurricane's on-screen injuries. Kurt Angle sluggishly attacked the Hurricane on September 17 at Vince McMahon's request. After the beating, a video of The Hurricane ripping off his mask and striking Rosey was displayed because he did not help him defend Angle. The Hurricane did not turn up a World Tag Team Championship match last week, leaving Rosey to face the champions alone. The Hurricane (out of costume) appeared at the top of the entrance ramp, reverting to his real name, Gregory Helms, and watching as Rosey was double teamed and defeated. Helms declared after the match that he was fed up with being funny for the crowd and that he was sick of carrying Rosey as a tag team member. In the process, he was turned into a heel. Helms and Rosey competed in a singles match on November 7 on Raw, which Helms won. Helms also debated Heat, Raw's sister program. On the second episode of Raw Helms, Jerry Lawler confronted Jerry Lawler over rumors that Lawler had been making at Helms' expense, and Lawler said he was amusing and called Helms a prank. Helms retaliated by slapping Lawler, who retaliated at Helms. During a match at New Year's Revolution, Lawler defeated Helms.

Helms competed in an Open Invitational match for the Cruiserweight Championship and triumphed, even though he was a Raw star and the title was solely defended by SmackDown! As a result, he returned to SmackDown! In February 2006, the brand of Nunzio, Kid Kash, and the other cruiserweights got a feud. Helms defeated Nunzio in a one-on-one match during this period. He was supposed to defend Kid Kash next week, but Kash was out of town due to a family illness, so Scotty 2 Hotty took his place. Helms defeated him and claimed that he was more powerful than all cruiserweights. As a result, all the cruiserweights at the show invaded the ring and assaulted Helms.

It was later announced by SmackDown!

Helms will face all the cruiserweights in a match for the title at No Way Out pay-per-view tournament, according to General Manager Theodore Long. Helms was able to hold the title for the first time. Helms was expected to defend his title against a cruiserweight on SmackDown later this week. To show that he was in fact more efficient than all the cruiserweights. Long told Helms that he did not have to defend his honor, but that he did place Helms in a champion versus champion match against the United States Champion, Chris Benoit, after he blasted Long in a long and boring match. Helms tried to escape during the match, but was interrupted by other cruiserweights who threw Helms back into the ring, resulting in Helms losing the match. Helms underwent successful nose surgery and was supposed to miss five to six weeks.

During this time SmackDown!

Both opponents were also competing in Survivor Series, where Helms was on Team Rated-RKO and Hardy was a member of Team D-X; Team Rated-RKO lost the match; Team Rated-RKO was also missing the game.

After a tag team match in which Matt Hardy and Yang defeated Helms and Sylvan on the November 10 episode of SmackDown! After Helms defeated him to keep the title at Armageddon in December 2006, the feud came to an end. On SmackDown, Helms and the entire Cruiserweight division clashed in 2007. Helms' tenure as Cruiserweight Champion came to an end at No Way Out, when he was unable to win a Cruiserweight open invitational that saw Chavo Guerrero win the championship. Helms formed a tag team with Guerrero a few weeks after losing the championship, but they did not win any matches as a team.

Helms broke two vertebrae in his neck, one of which was pressing on his spinal cord, according to WWE. About a week later, he underwent surgery with Dr. Lloyd Youngblood to restore them. Helms was expected to miss a year and a half as a result of the injury.

Helms appeared on SmackDown's episode in September 19, 2008, in a non-wrestling role. He appeared on "Hurrapops," a shortened version of his old ring name "The Hurricane," and mocked heel stars such as Shelton Benjamin and Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder. Helms was drawn to the ECW brand as part of the 2009 Supplemental Draft on April 15, 2009. Helms made his ECW debut on April 28, 2009, reverting to his Gregory Helms ring name and interviewing Evan Bourne. He started a storyline in which, while interviewing someone, a scripted accident would occur, resulting in Helms leaving the interview seconds before the person in distress was saved by the hurricane. After Helms denied being the hurricane, Helms was attacked by Paul Burchill on ECW's August 11, 2009 episode. To save Yoshi Tatsu, the Hurricane later struck Burchill in the ring dressed in his Hurricane clothing. On ECW's next week, he made his on-ring debut for the brand as The Hurricane, defeating Burchill. He continued to feud with Burchill, who attempted to reveal The Hurricane's true identity, until the ECW's November 17 episode, when the Hurricane defeated Burchill in a mask versus career match.
