Dulquer Salmaan (born 28 July 1986) is an Indian film actor, playback actor, and film producer who mainly works in Malayalam language films.

He has appeared in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi language films.

The son of actor Mammootty, Dulquer graduated with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Purdue University and spent time as a business manager before embarking on acting. He made his debut in the 2012 action drama Second Show, where he received the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut after undergoing a three-month acting course at the Barry John Acting Studio.

For his work in Ustad Hotel (2012), he received his first Filmfare Award for Best Actor. Salmaan appeared in the Tamil romantic comedy Vain Moodi Pesavum (2014), following the commercial success of ABCD's: American-Born Confused Desi (2013) and the road thriller Neelakasham Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi (2013).

He appeared in the ensemble romantic drama Bangalore Days (2014), one of Malaysia's top-grossing films.

He went on to further success in Tamil cinema with Mani Ratnam's highly acclaimed romance O Kadhal Kanmani (2015).

Salmaan was given the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor for portraying the title role in the 2015 romantic drama Charlie.

He appeared in Mahanati (2018) and in the Hindi films Karwaan (2018) and The Zoya Factor (2019). Salmaan has been praised in the media as a fashion icon.

Early life and family

Dulquer Salmaan was born in Kochi on July 28, 1986. He completed his primary education at Toc-H Public School in Vyttila, Kochi, and his secondary school at Sishya School in Chennai. He obtained a bachelor's degree in Business Management from Purdue University and spent time at an IT company in Dubai. He later decided to pursue a career in acting and attended a three-month course at the Barry John Acting Studio in Mumbai. In a 2012 interview, he said he preferred acting because "somewhere down the lane, my life became boring and routine."

Personal life and off-screen work

He married architect Amal Sufiya in an arranged marriage on December 22, 2011. Amal is the descendant of a North Indian Muslim family who migrated to Chennai. In May 2017, the couple's daughter was born.

As part of the Kerala motor vehicle department's safe riding program, he appeared in a short film. As part of the Chennai Gives campaign, he donated 150 items, including clothing, shoes, novels, school supplies, and crockery. In addition, he used to run a web portal for trading vehicles and a dental store chain in Chennai. He is also the director of the Motherhood Hospital in Bangalore.

Salmaan appeared in second show, which was in which he played Harilal, a gangster, on display in 2011.
