Kim Seon-ho Career

Career

Kim earned a degree from the Seoul Institute of the Arts after graduating from high school. While in college, he formed a theatre company and began acting in plays. In 2009, he reprised his stage performance in New Boeing Boeing (an adaptation of the French play of the same name) in which he reprised in 2013. He had minor success in Daehakro (similar to Off-Broadway)'s Rooftop House Cat and Goal of Love, both romantic comedies. Later, he expanded his repertoire with darker roles, gained critical attention in films such as True West and Kiss of the Spider Woman in 2015 and Closer in 2016.

Kim made his screen debut in the KBS2 office drama Good Manager at the start of 2017, after being auditioned at the behest of producer Lee Eun-jin who attended his role in the film Closer. Kim's next project Strongest Deliveryman, for which he originally auditioned for a supporting role, was his first appearance on film in a leading role. He appeared in the action comedy Two Cops as a sly conman, earning him two awards at the 2017 MBC Drama Awards later this year. Although the movie was still airing, Valentin in Kiss of the Spider Woman resurfaced onstage. In 2018, Kim appeared in the lead role of an artist in the drama "You Drive Me Crazy," which had a four-episode broadcast in May. He appeared in 100 Days My Prince, which became one of Korea's most popular series ever. Kim joined Salt Entertainment after his former theatre company's contract came to an end in September.

Kim appeared in the JTBC film Welcome to Waikiki 2 in March 2019. He appeared in the tvN investigative crime drama Catch the Ghost opposite veteran actress Moon Geun-young in his first leading role in a full-length film in October of the year. Kim appeared on the show in his fourth season of the KBS2 reality show 2 Days & 1 Night on November 5, and he received the Rookie Award at the 2020 KBS Entertainment Awards for his contribution to the show. He appeared in the play Memory in Dream [sic] for his final project of the year.

Kim returned to the small screen in October 2020 via the tvN drama Start-Up. Viewers applauded his portrayal of a start-up investor with a tragic past, earning him a nomination for the Baeksang Arts Award for Best Supporting Actor – Television. During the airing of Start-Up, Kim topped the Korean Business Research Institute's monthly brand reputation ranking index and saw a rise in success both nationally and internationally. He made his comeback to theater in January 2021 through the play Ice by Jang Jin, in which he played a detective trying to inculpate a young man in a murder lawsuit. Kim co-wrote and sang "Reason" in May, the latter's first appearance in the former's music video, and he performed it in conjunction with Epitone Project.

He appeared in the television series Hometown Cha-Cha, alongside Shin Min-a, in which he was unemployed but all-around handyman in a seaside village of Gongjin in August 2021. Kim once more topped the Korean Business Research Institute's brand reputation ranking index in September 2021, during Hometown Cha-Cha's airing. With viewer numbers soaring at 13.32 percent, the series debuted as one of the highest-rated television series in Korean cable television history.

He was named as the Year's Television Actor of the Year in December 2021.

Kim will return to the theater in May 2022 with the third performance of The 9th Best Plays Festival, with David Greig's Touching the Void. It is based on a true tale of two British mountain climbers, Joe Simpson and Simon Yates' surviving. Kim is a triple cast member of Shin Sung-min and Lee Hwi-jong for the role of Joe. Kim Dong-yeon directed the Korean premiere, which ran in Daehangno from July 8 to September 18, 2022. Kim's organization announced his first fan meeting, which would be held on September 10, 2022.
