Demba Ba (born 25 May 1985) is a Senegalese professional footballer who plays for Istanbul Basaksehir and the Senegal national team. He made his French team Rouen debut in 2005 before moving to Mouscron and then 1899 Hoffenheim in Germany in 2007.

In 2011, he joined West Ham United in the Premier League.

In January 2013, he completed a transfer to Chelsea for an undisclosed fee before joining Besiktas for €6 million 18 months later.

He then moved to Shanghai Shenhua of the Chinese Super League after one season in Turkey. Born and raised in France, Ba has been a full international for Senegal since 2007 and has represented the country at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

Demba Ba Career

Early career

Ba was born in Sèvres, Hauts-de-Seine, and is the sixth child of seven. He grew up in Saint-Valery-en-Caux, Seine-Maritime. He joined ES Mont-Gaillard, a Le Havre, in 1992, before playing for Port Autonome between 1999 and 2000, then for Frileuse between 2000 and 2001.

Ba returned to Châtillon in 2001 and played for Montrouge. He played for the club until 2004, but after that time he decided to concentrate on his football, he decided not to focus on his football. Bazley moved to the United Kingdom later this year after unsuccessful trials at Lyon and Auxerre, requesting a professional job. He was introduced to Watford by his acquaintance Gauthier Diafutua, then a Watford player, but was dismissed shortly after Lewington's dismissal. After two more frustrating trials at Football League sides Swansea City and Gillingham, Baz spent a week on trial at Barnsley and returned to France.

Club career

Ba signed Alain Michel because the two players were both moving to Rouen, France, on a one-year deal, and Ba enjoyed a fruitful season with the club.

Mouscron, a Belgian club, defeated several other clubs in 2006 to win Ba's signature. In each of his first three games, scoring, he suffered fractured in his tibia and fibula and was out of action between August 2006 and April 2007. He scored seven goals in nine games during his eight-month recovery and gained his first international cap.

Baha moved to 2 on August 29, 2007 - the first time a Baja was upgraded to 2. Hoffenheim's 1899 Hoffenheim received a €3 million contract. Ba was integral to Hoffenheim's promotion to the Bundesliga and a fruitful first season in the Bundesliga, where the team finished seventh after leading during the Christmas break. He scored 14 goals in 2014, but he missed one game all season. In a 3–3 game against Stuttgart on February 24, 2009, these goals included a hat-trick. In all competitions, Ba scored 40 goals in 103 appearances for TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. He was supposed to travel to VfB Stuttgart in July 2009, but the transfer was cancelled because he missed a medical. Baffenheim's contract was extended to 2013 in December of this year.

In January 2011, Ba left Hoffenheim for undisputed reasons. He refused to attend Hoffenheim's winter training camp, claiming that the club had departed on an agreed transfer to a Premier League club, reportedly West Ham United. Hoffenheim's general manager said his deal will be terminated, he will face court action, and he will be fined and banned from moving to another club for six months. The club later said he went to England without permission in order to order a change, which they reluctantly accepted due to Ba's behaviour. The club later agreed to a transfer to Stoke City for a reported £7.1 million, but the club later decided against it, but it was denied because Bah had agreed personal terms but not for undisclosed reasons. Stoke City manager Tony Pulis expressed dissatisfaction with the news, saying "they did find something that might cause problems later."

The club's general manager, Ernst Tanner, said the club will stick by their decision to sell Ba.

Ba was sold to West Ham United for an undisclosed fee based on appearances following the failure of Stoke's contract. Due to knee injuries in the Stoke medical, he began a three-year contract on a pay as you play basis on January 28th. After a 1–0 home loss by Birmingham City on Sunday, Ba's Premier League debut occurred on February 6, 2011, as a 75th-minute replacement for Robbie Keane. In a 3–3 draw against West Bromwich Albion, his first goals came six days later on his full debut, scoring twice. Despite finishing as the season's best scorer with seven from twelve games, including two in the last game, Ba's stay with West Ham fell short. He invoked a release clause in his deal, allowing him to leave for free following his relegation to the Championship after a 3–2 loss to Wigan Athletic. Everton and Newcastle United expressed skepticism about his £50,000-per-week salary plus a £500,000 bonus in order to continue in the Premier League with another club.

On June 17, 2011, Ba signed for Newcastle United on a three-year contract, making his club debut against Arsenal in the 0–0 draw. In a 3–1 home victory, his first goals for the club came on September 24, 2011. Stoke City's third hat-trick came in a 3–1 away win, raising the club's 11 games unbeaten league record to 8 and keeping them in 3rd place in the league. Despite Newcastle's slump, his goalscoring form remained strong, with him selected in ESPN's Premier League Best XI for the first half of the season and named Premier League Player of the Month for December 2011.

Ba's league tally had reached 15 by the time Ba left to compete in the January 2012 Africa Cup of Nations, making him his second top scorer in the league behind Arsenal's Robin van Persie. He arrived in the tournament on a high note, scoring the first in a 3–0 home win over Manchester United on January 4, 2012, the team's first victory over the league champions in over a decade. Papiss Cissé, Ba's Senegal teammate, also signed for Newcastle while at the Africa Cup of Nations tournament. After Senegal finished last in their group, Ba and Cissé returned earlier than expected, with Ba failing three Premier League games and two FA Cup games, the second of which saw Newcastle knocked out of the cup. On his return to action against Aston Villa on February 5, 2012, he scored the opener, beating Newcastle 21-01. If Ba's last goal of the season, it will be his last goal of the season, with Papiss Cissé leading the line and scoring 12 goals in the second half of the season. Ba was named as the best signing of the 2011–12 season by Premier League executives in March 2012. With 16 goals, he ended the season as Newcastle's top goal scorer.

In a 1–0 victory over Monaco on 16 July 2012, Ba got off to a good start in his season by scoring in a 1–0 win. He also scored in a 2–1 victory over Braga, which helped Newcastle win the Guadiana Trophy. Baz started the scoring in Newcastle's first league match against Tottenham Hotspur with a volleyed victory. He scored Newcastle's 1000th goal of the Premier League era on September 17, 2012, after scoring both goals in a 2–2 draw against Everton at Goodison Park. He scored twice in a 2–2 draw against Reading on September 29th for the third time in a row, the first a volley, but the second was more tumultuous as the ball struck his arm before going in.

Bahia had a release clause in his deal worth £7 million, sparking rumors of him moving to Chelsea. Newcastle boss Alan Pardew confirmed the transfer was "done" and that Ba will "go to Chelsea with our blessing," according to Newcastle manager Alan Pardew.

Bajo Boss joined Chelsea for an undisclosed fee on January 4th, 2013. After Isaac Esposito, Ba signed a three-and-a-half-year deal, marking the second straight Senegalese player to join the team after Isaac Esposito. He was given the vacant number 29 shirt. On January 5th, Ba made his FA Cup debut against Southampton in the third round. In a 5–1 victory over Chelsea, he made his debut for the club by scoring two goals in his first appearance for the club. On his home league debut in a 2–2 draw against Southampton, he scored on his first return to home league on January 16th.

In a Premier League match at St. James' Park on February 2, 2013, Ba first played for his old club Newcastle. Ba's first attempt on goal was off, but Newcastle keeper Tim Krul saved his first attempt on goal in the 32nd minute of the match. Ba was able to lead the rebounded ball and in doing so collided with Coloccini. In the 43rd minute, Ba was replaced with a broken nose and Ba was switched to Ba. Newcastle took the game 3–2 after being unable to finish it. Ba dominated Stamford Bridge 1–0 in a 1–0 win over West Bromwich Albion after a string of seven games without scoring. Chelsea defeated Manchester United on 1 April 1 1-0 and a spot in the FA Cup quarter-finals against Manchester United, giving Chelsea a 1–0 victory and a spot at Wembley Stadium in the FA Cup quarter-finals. He was cup-tied for Chelsea's triumphant 2012–13 Europa League campaign.

Ba's squad number was changed from 29 to 19, according to his squad number when at Newcastle in the 2013-14 season. Ba was linked with transfers to his former clubs Newcastle United and West Ham United in the summer transfer window. Ba was considering joining Arsenal on a season-long loan, but the transfer fell through. It was later revealed that the transfer was postponed due to Chelsea's interference, although Bahamen's intention was to move to Arsenal.

After coming back as a substitute in a Champions League match against Schalke in a 3–0 victory, he scored his first goal of the season. Chelsea beat Southampton 3–1 by Ba's first Premier League goal of the season. Chelsea defeated Steaua București 1–0, his first Champions League appearance since being on holiday on December 11, 2013 and scoring the only goal of the game. He scored twice after coming on as a 76th-minute replacement in a 4–0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on March 8, 2014.

Chelsea defeated Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League quarter-final second leg on April 8th, 2014, beating Chelsea by 87th minutes. Chelsea defeated Swansea City 1–0 on Wednesday, with the winning goal being scored on June 13. Chelsea lost the game 2–0 after Steven Gerrard slipped over during Chelsea's third final match against Liverpool on Sunday after receiving a pass that allowed Ba to score, allowing Chelsea to remain in the Premier League standings. Barely scored 14 goals since his arrival in January 2013, only Bahama fell behind fellow strikers Samuel Eto'o and Fernando Torres, who both spent the majority of the season on the sidelines. Chelsea decided not to let Ba search for a new club after the 2014–15 season, despite his intention to remain for the 2014–15 season.

Beşiktaş J.K. of the Turkish Süper Lig obtained a €6 million contract on July 16, 2014. He was given the number 9 shirt.

In the first leg of the third qualifying round of the 2014–15 UEFA Champions League, Ba made his official competitive debut for the club against Feyenoord, coming as a substitute for Ouzhan zyakup in the 59th minute as the match ended 2–1 for Beşiktaş. Ba scored three goals in Istanbul's second leg, his first appearance in the team's history, which ended 3–1. Ba tried a straight shot right after the game, which was saved by Arsenal keeper Wojciech Szczczny at Play-off Round first leg, which ended 0–0.

Ba got off to a promising start in Turkish top flight with eight goals in ten games for Besiktas over the first twelve weeks of the season. Ba was instrumental in Besiktas' triumph and was able to score five times in five games, while Besiktas advanced to the knockout phase.

Ba had signed a three-year contract with Shanghai, China's Shenhua, on June 28, 2015. He made his debut on July 11th in Tianjin Teda, starting in a 1–1 draw, and scoring his first goal four days later in a 3–1 home win over Beijing Guoan. Ba's season ended with six goals in 11 games, including a hat-trick in the final game on October 31st, a 3–1 victory over Jiangsu Sainty, which was also at the Hong Kong University Stadium. Despite losing to Jiangsu Sainty in the 2015 Chinese FA Cup final, Ba won the titles of Most Valuable Player and Top Scorer.

How Steven Gerrard's fateful slip killed Liverpool's title dream 10 years ago today after Jose Mourinho 'parked two buses' and riled the Anfield crowd to stifle the odds-on Premier League favourites

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 27, 2024
Firmly in the box seat, the red half of Merseyside dared to dream of a first league title since 1990. Not only that, there was a perception that Liverpool would be popular 'people's champions' after so long in the wilderness. But, as we know, it didn't come to pass. It would take Jurgen Klopp to lift Liverpool's curse six years afterwards. Part of the reason was one of the Premier League's most cruelly seminal moments, which happened 10 years ago today - Steven Gerrard's slip.

After losing a player who refused to break fast, Nantes boss Antoine Kombouare is reportedly fired Demba Ba outrage

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 4, 2023
After Jaouen Hadjam was suspended from the team for refusing to break his fast, former Newcastle manager Demba Ba has hit back at Nantes boss Antoine Kombouare's remark on Ramadan. The ex-Senegal player took to Twitter to announce that players who choose to fast will not be included in matchday squads, despite Kombourae's claims that players who choose to fast will not be included in matchday squads. Muslims observe Ramadan, which runs from March 22 to April 21, will refrain from eating or drinking anything in daylight hours during a significant period in Islam.

Chelsea is 0-2, Chelsea is 2-0, as the Blues' fine form continues. Mason Mount double puts pressure on Gerrard

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 16, 2022
VILLA PARK, TOM COLLOMOSE: It just had to be Chelsea. Steven Gerrard's most painful memory of his playing career culminated in a victory that would only raise the heat on him as the team's boss. Gerrard lost his footing at Anfield in a game against Chelsea in 2014, resulting in a goal for Demba Ba and a 2-0 loss, putting a big dent in Liverpool's title hopes. Years from now, the former England captain was haunted by this time for years to come. Will this defeat come to make him feel the same way? Both goals from Mason Mount extended Graham Potter's undefeated tenure as Chelsea boss to six matches, but Chelsea's victory owed a great deal to two Tyrone Mings errors - in front of England boss Gareth Southgate - and some spectacular saves from Kepa Arrizabalaga. Chelsea seemed to be vulnerable without injured Reece James and Villa, but they had no luck, especially in the first half when Jacob Ramsey, Danny Ings, and John McGinn came close.
