N'Golo Kanté Career

Club career

Kanté, a native of Paris, began his career at JS Suresnes, in the western suburbs of the capital's northwest suburbs, where he lived for ten years. Kanté remained outside the radar of major teams due to his small stature and selfless styles of play, according to assistant manager Pierre Ville. At that time, he was refused from the academy at Clairefontaine. Since Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger turned down the prospect of signing Kanté, Suresnes' president (one of Wenger's closest friends) accompanied him around to visit various clubs. He joined Boulogne's reserve team and made his professional debut in the last game of the Ligue 2 season on May 18, 2012, a 1–2 home loss for his already relegated team to Monaco. For the final 11 minutes, Virgile Reset was replaced.

He appeared in the third-tier Championnat National during the 2012–13 season, but missed just one game in the league. He scored his first senior goal, the only one in a victory over Luzenac at the Stade de la Libération, on August 10, and he scored two more over the course.

In 2013, he joined Caen in Ligue 2 and played all 38 games in his first season as they finished third in Ligue 2, earning them promotion to Ligue 1. He scored his first goal to equalize in a 2–1 victory over Laval on August 9th, his second game of the season; he scored again in his second game of the season in a 3–2 victory over Istres on April 11th.

Kanté played 37 games as Caen remained in the top flight this season; his one absence was suspension after being sent home in a 0–1 home loss to Rennes on August 30. In a 3–0 victory at Evian, he scored their first goal of the season. He has played more times in Europe over the seasons than nearly every other player.

Kanté was recruited by Steve Walsh, who had previously arranged the transfer of Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez to the team. He was named as the successor to Esteban Cambiasso. He joined Leicester on a four-year contract for an undisclosed fee that was estimated to be worth €8 million (£5.6 million). Vardy was recalled five days later by replacing him for the final eight minutes of a 4–2 home win over Sunderland. In a 2–1 home victory over Watford on Friday, he scored his first Premier League goal.

He received a lot of praise and praise for his Leicester performances, and he was often lauded as a key contributor to the club's good form as they go on to win the 2015–16 Premier League by consistently making a large number of tackles and interceptions. He was one of four Leicester players to be named in the PFA Team of the Year in April. Kanté had 175 tackles (31 more than any other player) and 157 interceptions (15 more than any other player), the highest defensive statistics in the 2015–16 Premier League season.

Kanté signed a five-year contract with Chelsea on July 16, 2016, despite reportedly paying £32 million in transfer fees. Arsenal was reportedly forced to withdraw due to agent fees that totaled more than £10 million, rather than signing Granit Xhaka. Kanté was reportedly exposed to death threats as a result of agent fee sharing, which he later denied. Kanté was given the number 7 shirt, which had been left empty after Ramires' withdrawal in January. Chelsea, according to Football Leaks, has offered to move a portion of the salary into an offshore account in order to save taxes. Kanté refused with his lawyer's note in an email: "N'golo is flexible, he just wants a normal salary."

Kanté made his competitive debut against West Ham United on August 15th. Despite receiving a yellow card in the first three minutes of the game, Chelsea's coach, Peter Harle, shone himself as the game progressed, leading Chelsea to a 2–1 victory. He met his old team, Leicester City, for the first time three months after his move to London, and was rated Man of the Match in a 3–0 victory. In a 4–0 home win over Manchester United on Sunday, he scored his first goal for Chelsea.

Kanté was named the world's sixth best footballer of 2016. Kanté was named man of the match and scored the first goal in the 51st minute during an FA Cup quarter-final victory over Manchester United on March 13. For the second year in a row, Kanté was named in the PFA Team of the Year on April 20. He was also named the PFA Player of the Year, the FWA Footballer of the Year, and the Premier League Player of the Year later this year. Kanté became England's first player since Eric Cantona in 1993 to win back-to-back top-flight titles with two clubs. In October 2017, Kanté was nominated for the Ballon d'Or. He would go on to win the FA Cup Champions medal after watching for the entire 90 minutes in a 1–0 victory over Manchester United in the final on May 19. He was named Man of the match by BBC Sport.

On November 23, 2018, Chelsea's highest-paid player, he agreed to a new five-year deal. Chelsea defeated Tottenham Hotspur 21-0 in the EFL Cup semi-final second leg at home. Kanté scored the first goal of Chelsea's 2–1 EFL Cup semi-final second leg victory. At the end of 90 minutes, the score was tied 2–2 on aggregate, with Chelsea winning the shootout 4–2. Kanté scored on his 300th club appearance, a 2–2 home draw against Burnley on April 22. Despite not being 100% fit, Kanté launched the 2018–19 Europa League final and dominated Arsenal's midfield as Chelsea defeated Chelsea 4–1.

Chelsea suffered a 4–0 home loss to Manchester United, which started Kanté's 2019 Premier League campaign from the bench. He has been out for almost a month, including missing the Champions League opener against Valencia due to a ankle injury. Kanté scored the only goal in a 1–2 loss to Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on September 22, 2019. He and his Chelsea teammate, Fikayo Tomori, were nominated for the Premier League Goal of the Month award earlier this year. Kanté scored in a 1–2 away loss on November 23rd in his 150th Chelsea appearance against Manchester City. Later this month, Kanté announced that he did not decide against returning to PSG, saying, "We don't necessarily know where we want to go, but we know what we have." He said he felt well in London and that he had faith in the Chelsea scheme.

Kanté started training on site in May 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Even if he will miss the remainder of the season, the club defended his position. Kanté was strong in the Premier League opener against Brighton & Hove Albion, who beat Brighton & Hove Albion 3–1 away on September 14, 2020.

Chelsea defeated Atlético Madrid 1–0 in the Champions League round of 16, marking his 200th appearance in all competitions with the club since February 2021. Kanté was praised for his work against Atlético Madrid and Real Madrid, en route to the Champions League finals. Chelsea defeated Manchester City 1–0 in the 2021 UEFA Champions League Final in Porto, and he was named man of the match after winning his first UEFA Champions League. Kanté's result, according to Arsène Wenger, was "unbelievable," and commentators argued that Kanté's success in the Champions League placed him in contention for the 2021 Ballon d'Or. Kante said in anticipation of the award that "it's a great individual award for players," but he sees it as a result of a season. It's not really an end that I'm working on."

Many analysts have proclaimed Kanté as the foreseeable successor to former France and Chelsea footballer Claude Makélélé, who is widely regarded as one of the best defensive midfielders of all time, following his match-winning results in Chelsea's rise to the final of the 2020–21 UEFA Champions League season. Kanté was named the UEFA Men's Midfielder of the Year for his performances throughout the year, but he lost out to Chelsea teammate Jorginho in the UEFA Men's Player of the Year Award for his performances throughout the year.

Kanté was positive for COVID-19 during the pandemic outbreak in late September 2021, and the first 10 days required to self-isolate. Kanté was one of five Chelsea players selected in the final 30-man shortlist for the 2021 Ballon d'Or on October 8th. He played for Chelsea in their first Club World Cup victory, beating Palmeiras 2-1 on February 13-22.

International career

Kanté was welcomed by Mali ahead of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations because he had never competed for France in any of their age group teams. Kanté denied on the ground that he was still struggling to establish himself in Ligue 1. Mali issued a second invitation to Kanté in January 2016, but he later said he was still debating which national team to represent if he were to receive an invitation from France.

Kanté was selected for the France senior squad for the first time against the Netherlands and Russia in friendlies on March 17th.
