Career

Dagny began playing in Troms, but she soon began performing locally. June Cecile Egerton, a friend of June Cecile Egerton, created the pair 'June & Dagny.' Dagny left Troms in 2010 after establishing a strong reputation in her hometown, and in Troms, she has June remaining. Dagny said that her step was made in "the spirit of adventure." "Playing] live in peace for years before being exposed to outside pressure," she said in retrospect.

Dagny lived in Liverpool for the first time before settling in London the following year. She began performing in small club circuits and at pop-up events with her partner, Richard Craker at the time. On the EP Things We'll Never Say (2010), she released a handful of acoustic and folk-pop oriented songs.

Dagny was traveling and performing between London and Troms in 2012, while still working part time in a clothes store, wine bar, and elderly care. Local press paid her lauding. During Elton John's Vinter-Dgnvill festival and Sting for a performance in Bangkok, she played a key role.

She continued to participate in the Isle of Wight festival in the United Kingdom, as well as assisting Bryan Adams in a tour of Austria.

Dagny expressed how her music career had stalled by 2015, saying that "everything wasn't really going to happen." She then enrolled in Troms University to complete a certificate in digital media design. Following encouragement from her family, she returned to music after studying for six months.

"Backbeat" was Dagny's most popular record in the fall of 2015. It drew Zane Lowe's Beats 1 station's attention at a "pounding indie-pop vibe." The song debuted on Spotify's New Music playlist, receiving 300,000 views in a few days. On Spotify, the song had earned over 20 million views by mid-2016. In the Grey's Anatomy episode "Reality Colors," the acoustic version of the song appeared.

Dagny received contracts with Propel (covering Scandinavia) and Republic (for the remainder of the world). "Backbeat immediately grabbed our attention, and our entire company fell in love with her," Rob Stevenson said. By:Larm and Trondheim Calling, she was chosen to appear at Eurosonic trade shows. "Backbeat" was nominated for Song of the Year under Spellemann, 2017, while Dagny was selected for Newcomer of the Year.

Dagny's Gold, the fourth most popular on Norwegian radio station P3 in 2016, was released in 2016. Ultraviolet, her EP, was released the same year as she began. Both Norwegian and British publications lauded the publication, with The Guardian describing it as a "exciting yet pensive riot of pounding drums, live instrumentation, and just enough electronic flourishes to give it a modern edge, as well as some outstanding songwriting."

Both Billboard and VEVO announced new singles "Wearing Nothing" and "Love You Like This" in 2017, bringing Dagny international recognition as 'One To Watch' for 2017. Dagny also undertook a cover of Rachel Steven's "More More" (which Target used in a commercial campaign announcing its line of new products in the fall of 2017. Following her growing success, she embarked on a number of projects, including singles with LCAW and NOTD.

Dagny performed on a number of singles in 2019, including "Turn" with The Wombats and "Hit Your Heart" with Steve Aoki. Harper's Bazaar praised the album, urging readers to "add [it] to their weekend party playlist ASAP" after it appeared on club circuits. Dagny was also recognised as a songwriter on Katy Perry's debut "Never Really Over" which interpolated her song "Love You Like That" last year. "Never Really Over" was a top-ten hit on North America and Europe, rising to platinum in 2021.

Dagny began establishing herself as a main performer on Norway's live music and festival scene in parallel with her debuts. She appeared at sold-out shows across Norway, Europe, North America, and Asia as she performed often at yafestivalen, Stavernfestivalen and Bergenfest.

Dagny was nominated for a total of five times for the prestigious Spellemann Awards, including "Backbeat," "Wearing Nothing" and "Drink About" as a result of the Year's best writers (Songwriter of the Year) and "Rets Ltskriver (Songwriter of the Year) during this time.

Dagny left the Republic to produce her own brand, Little Daggers, after a string of singles. "I had 250 songs to work through, and people were expecting a huge success, but I much preferred making a complete album."

In late 2020, Dagny's first album Strangers / Lovers debuted. The album was released in two parts, reflecting the different stages of a marriage and the attendant nostalgia, with Dagny describing how "the idea of going from strangers to lovers and then back to strangers is horrific." Side A (which was first announced in May 2020) follows the beginning of a relationship, with bright and upbeat songs like "Come Over" and "Somebody." Side B was announced later this year (October 2020) and had a more melancholic focus on the end of a relationship, as shown by the tracks "Please Look At Me" and "It's Only A Heartbreak." Dagny also expressed herself as inspired by the long hours of day and night in northern Norway, saying, "I wanted to make something that had both a light and a dark side." Side A is upbeat like summer, while Side B is more like Autumn. In addition, a few of the songs were inspired by old films and TV shows Dagny enjoying growing up. The song "Coulda Woulda Shoulda" is based on the episode of the American television series Sex And The City (Season 4, Episode 11), while "It's Only A Heartbreak" is based on the classic film Casablanca. Dagny spoke about the album's theme, "I want to tell stories that mean something to me but that others can relate to." Strangers/ Lovers was launched as "one of 2020's most assured debuts" after launching to acclaim. "Somebody," the album's second song on the album, went on to win P3 Gull's second song, "Song of the Year."

Dagny played Lisa in Season 2 of Netflix's Home for Christmas in December 2020. The acoustic version of her hit single "Somebody" and the song "Bye Bye Baby" from Strangers / Lovers also made appearances on the program.

Dagny's catalogue was sent to Perform her catalogue with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra (KORK) in January 2021 to commemorate the country's 75th anniversary of independence.

Dagny co-performed the song "Pretty" with fellow Norwegian artist Astrid S for the soundtrack to the romantic comedy The Hating Game (2021). "Somebody" by her band "Somebody" also appeared on the soundtrack.
