Curt Smith (born 24 June 1961) is an English singer, songwriter, guitarist, record producer, and co-founding member of the pop rock band Tears for Fears with childhood pal Roland Orzabal.
Smith, as well as playing bass guitar, appeared on several Tears for Fears hits like "Mad World," "Pale Shelter," "Change," "The Way You Are" and "Everybody Wants to Rule the World," as well as playing bass guitar. Smith began his career as a survivor of Tears for Fears in 1991 and released his debut album Soul on Board in 1993.
He has released five studio albums and one EP, as well as dabbled in acting.
In 2000, he rejoined Orzabal as Tears for Fears.
Early life
Smith grew up in Bath, Somerset, England, and spent on the Snow Hill council estate. He attended the Beechen Cliff School.
Personal life
Smith has been married twice. Lynda "Lynne" Altman, his first wife, was married in 1982. They separated in 1988, and Frances Pennington began a relationship with them. They married in 1996 and now live in Los Angeles with their two children, Diva and Wilder, who were born in 1999 and 2001. Smith became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 2007. He is a fan of Manchester United and LAFC.
Smith and his daughter Diva performed an acoustic guitar version of "Mad World" on April 25, 2020, while remaining home under general quarantine orders due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
