Keren Jane Woodward (born 2 April 1961) is an English pop singer and songwriter who founded Bananarama, alongside Sara Dallin and Siobhan Fahey.

They ranked first on the United States in 1986, when they were ranked number one on the charts. "Venus" is a hit on Billboard.

Woodward has been a member of Bananarama for more than 38 years.

Early life

Woodward is a classically trained pianist, who has appeared in choirs and performed in amateur dramatics with Dallin, whom she has known since childhood. Woodward began working at the BBC in Portland, London, after graduating from school.

Personal life

Woodward began working with model David Scott-Evans, who gave their son Thomas, who was born 31 December 1986. Woodward began dating Andrew Ridgeley, formerly of the musical duo Wham, in 1990. In Wadebridge, North Cornwall, she and her son lived in a 15th-century converted barn. They broke up in November 2017, but they reformed in December 2019.

Career

Woodward formed Bananarama in 1981, with Dallin and Fahey releasing their first single "Aie a Mwana" in 1981. With "Venus" in 1986, the band went on to have a string of UK top ten hits and atop the American charts. Fahey left the band in 1988, to be replaced by Jacquie O'Sullivan, who left in 1991.

Woodward and Dallin performed as a pair from 1991 to 2017. They briefly reunited with Fahey in April 2017 and were given the Icon Award at the Glamour Awards in June 2017. In February 2018, the trio toured both the United Kingdom and North America. In August 2018, the two performers appeared as a trio for their final dates as a team.
