Cesár Sampson (born in Linz) is an Austrian singer, songwriter, producer, dancer, and model.

He was also a social worker and fitness instructor.

He represented Austria in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 with the album "Nobody But You," winning the jury's vote and finishing in 13th place overall and 13th in third place.

Personal life

Sampson was born in Linz, Austria. His father is a choreographer and pilates master teacher, and he has introduced pilates in Germany-speaking countries. In pilates, Sampson himself became a personal trainer and strength and mobility coach. His mother, a pianist, singer, and songwriter who was best known for co-writing and performing the theme tune of the popular Austrian television series Inspector Rex (German: Kommissar Rex). Sampson is also the nephew of Helen "Pepsi" DeMacque of the 1980s duo Pepsi & Shirlie. He has performed as a lead vocalist for Mike Oldfield.

Sampson served as a social worker for many years. He obtained a degree in sports science and spent several years as a physical therapist, but mainly with people with disabilities and handicaps. Sampson has performed modeling and is currently affiliated with a Slovak model company. He is a vegetarian.

Life and career

He began touring nationally and internationally at the age of 17. On the Austrian version of Dancing With the Stars, he appeared as a back-up singer.

He is a member of the music group Symphonix International, a musical performance and events company mainly active in Austria, Bulgaria, and the United Kingdom. Borislav "Boby" Milanov is the CEO, with Johan Alkenäs, Joacim Persson, and Cesár Sampson himself as the other participants. Symohonix has participated in the introduction of several songs, including "Dance Alone" by Macedonian singer Jana Burtymo, "Bones" by Bulgarian singer Kristian Kostov and Cesár Sampson's own entry for Austria "Nobody but You," as shown in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Sampson appeared as a backing vocalist for Bulgarian artists for two years in the Eurovision Song Contest. In Eurovision 2016, he was supporting Poli Genova in "If Love Was a Crime." Overall, the song took fourth place. He was Kristian Kostov's voice coach and support vocalist for his role on "Beautiful Mess" in Eurovision 2017. The song came in second place overall, behind Portugal's winning song.

He was announced as the Austrian representative in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 on December 5th. "Nobody but You" was the singer's response. Sampson himself, as well as Boris Milanov and Sebastian Arman, who have been involved in the creation of a number of songs for Bulgaria, have contributed to the album's success. He went on to win the jury with 271 points but came in third overall after considering the fact that he came in third with 71 points, retaining him his third overall position, with the public vote favoring Israel as the winner and Cyprus as the runner-up. This was the third highest ranking of all Austrian entries after two Eurovision winning songs, first in Eurovision 1966 with "Merci Chérie," by Udo Jürgens and 48 years later with Conchita Wurst's "Rise Like a Phoenix." He appeared as a guest star in the Christmas edition of Operación Triunfo's Spanish television series Operación Triunfo later this year.
