Jordan Taylor Hanson (born March 14, 1983) is an American singer best known as a member of the pop rock band Hanson.
He was born in Jenks, Oklahoma, a suburb of Tulsa.
He plays both lead and back-up vocals, as well as keyboard, percussion (including drums, bongos, and the tambourine), guitar, and piano.
He is also the lead singer of Tinted Windows.
Early life
Hanson was born in a suburb of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and the second of seven children born to Clarke Walker Hanson and Diana Frances Hanson. He has partial Danish ancestry.
Personal life
Hanson married Natalie Anne Bryant, who was a student at the University of '99. They have seven children; sons were born in 2002, 2006, 2008, and 2018, and 2020.
Hanson founded Food On The Move, a Tulsa based volunteer group aimed at eliminating food insecurity in the community. Food On The Move provides fresh produce, cooked meals, and links to community and health services.
Hanson contributed to an album commemorating the Tulsa race massacre in 2021 as part of The Sound of Black Wall Street musical project. "Sound Like Joy," his album, "Sound Like Joy," was recorded in historic Vernon AME Church, the center of Tulsa's Black Wall Street.
Music career
Hanson plays keyboard and piano with the band Hanson. Isaac, his older brother, formed the band with younger brother Zac in 1992 and were later identified as 'Hanson'. Isaac was eleven years old, Taylor was nine years old, and Zac was six years old. They were a cappella group with no clubs in Tulsa. The band's first big studio album, Middle of Nowhere, was released on Mercury Records on May 6, 1997. The first single, "MMMBop," debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 charts at number one.
In Tulsa, May 6 has been named "Hanson Day" in honor of the unveiling of Middle of Nowhere. On this day, the band produces concerts and festival in Tulsa, and visitors come from around the world to attend.
Taylor Hanson co-founded 3CG Records in 2003 alongside brothers Isaac and Zac Hanson.
Hanson, as well as former Smashing Pumpkins guitarist James Iha, Cheap Trick drummer Bun E. Carlos, and Fountains of Wayne bassist Adam Schlesinger formed a new band called Tinted Windows in early 2009. On March 20, 2009, the band appeared at SXSW in Austin, Texas, for the first publicized gig. On April 21, 2009, they first appeared on the internet. Adam Schlesinger died in 2020 from COVID-19. Hanson reported that a Tinted Windows reunion was in the works a few months after Schlesinger's death.
