Yoann Lemoine Career

Life and career

Yoann Lemoine was born in Tassin-la-Demi-Lune, near Lyon, to a Polish-Jewish mother. He studied illustration and animation at the Émile Cohl Academy, where he graduated with distinctions. He then moved to the United Kingdom to study a silk screen printing process course at Swindon College. Yoann moved to Paris in 2004. After a brief stint with H5, he joined Luc Besson's crew and spent a year on the project Arthur and the Invisibles. Marie Antoinette of Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette directed a string of roughs in 2006.

His first musical project is devoted to the transition from childhood to adulthood, as well as his rural roots. The songs can be described as 'organic' and wooden.' The project is about a boy who goes organic and then turns himself into marble. One explanation as to why Lemoine became a singer is that guitarist Richie Havens gave him a ukulele during a video shoot he was shooting. On March 28, 2011, Woodkid released the Iron EP. He collaborated on the music video for the single "Iron" (composed by Yoann Lemoine) with English model Agyness Deyn. The song was included in trailers for Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed: Revelations and the film Hitchcock, as well as the TV series Teen Wolf.

On October 6, 2011, he performed a live performance in Brussels on "Teenage Dream" by Katy Perry (whose official video he directed). He appeared on stage with Lana Del Rey in New York City on October 15, 2011. He co-created the video for her song "Born to Die" by her. On November 15, 2012, he appeared at the London Jazz Festival for the first time.

"A Soldier on My Own," Dior Homme's fall-winter 2013 collection, was inspired by Woodkid's "Iron" and named after a word in the lyrics. The song was used as the show's soundtrack.

Lemoine announced on December 15, 2012, that he was recording his debut album, dubbed The Golden Age. Green United Music, an independent label, released it on March 18, 2013. Lemoine introduced the official album cover on his official Facebook page on December 14, 2012, a week later.

Lemoine himself produced "Run Boy Run" and was included in numerous O2 and Science Channel commercials (those voiced by Sean Bean). In January 2014, it was also used in the teaser trailers for the BBC's series Musketeers. At the 2013 Grammy Awards, "Run Boy Run"'s music video was selected for Best Short Form Music Video. The song was also used in the game Dying Light trailer. On the soundtrack of Divergent's 2014 film Divergent, "Run Boy Run" and "I Love You" were included. Woodkid performed at the London Brixton Academy with the BBC Concert Orchestra in November 2013, and was invited by the Montreux Jazz Festival to perform for the second time with the Sinfonietta de Lausanne at the Stravinsky Auditorium during his Golden Age tour. A well-coordinated light show and visual projections with imagery from his music videos characterized the Golden Age tour shows. The song is also used in the Umbrella Academy in connection with Number 5, and the run was also known as Run Boy Run.

Lemoine / Woodkid was invited by the Opéra and Museum of Modern Art of Saint-Étienne to perform and talk about the New York minimalist movement with Philip Glass. Woodkid was named Best Stage Performer at the French equivalent of the Grammy Awards in February 2014, Les Victoires de la Musique.
