Early life
Adams was born in Jamaica, Queens, New York City, and the niece of comedian Don Adams and singer Adelaide Efantis. She was accompanied by her brother Sean and her sister Carolyn Steele, Matthew Metchik, Paramount TV executive Stacey Adams and Beige Adams. She attended Beverly Hills High School, where she performed in acting, an activity she continued at the University of California at Irvine.
Personal life
Jim Beaver, an actor/writer, married Adams in 1989; their daughter was born in 2001. Adams, a non-smoker, died of lung cancer at the age of 46 in Los Angeles, California, on March 3, 2004. Life's That Way, her husband's book, discusses her last few months. She was cremated and her ashes scattered at Fern Canyon, California, and Beverly Hills' Franklin Canyon Park.
Career
Adams performed improvisational comedy at the Groundlings and was a member of the Acme Comedy Theater in Los Angeles. She was also an acting coach.
In four of her five appearances in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Adams portrayed the recurring character of Ishka (also known as "Moogie"), mother of the Ferengi brothers Rom and Quark. Adams was, in fact, nine years younger than Armin Shimerman, who played Quark, despite playing his mother.
She appeared in guest roles on a variety of television shows, including Just Shoot Me!, Murphy Brown, and Party of Five, as well as with her father in his television series Check It Out! Get Smarter Again. The television show Get Smarter Again. Adams appeared in the 1991 independent film Little Secrets as the lead protagonist.
Adams, a lyricist, created pop songs, commercial jingles, and television theme songs with her collaborator, David Burke.
Adams appeared in casting television series including 3rd Rock From the Sun and Eerie, Indiana, as well as American Heart (1992) and Home Room (2002). She spent time as casting director for That '70s Show before her death.
