Life and career
Alyson Reed was born in Fullerton and grew up in Anaheim, California. She began dancing at the age of four, began performing in musicals at age 7, and by age 12, she was working full time. Reed appeared in Wonderland at Disneyland's theme park and was also a performer at Knott's Berry Farm. Reed attended Anaheim High School, where she graduated in 1976. Alyson played a key role in the production of "Hello Dolly!" at Servite High School in 1974. Reed, a senior, was the first female to serve as Associated Student Body President in school history and played a lead role in the school's stage production of Sweet Charity. Reed made her Broadway debut in Dancin' in 1978. "Oh Brother," Dance a Little Closer, A Grand Night for Singing, and Marilyn: An American Fable are among the Broadway credits. She was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for Cabaret and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical for Marilyn. In 1992, she appeared opposite Michael O'Keefe in the role of Lt. Cmdr. Galloway is a tourist who has toured as Cassie/Val in A Chorus Line, as well as Catherine in Pippin. She has a number of regional appearances and can be seen on various cast albums.
Cassie in Richard Attenborough's film adaptation of A Chorus Line was Reed's most notable screen role, although she appeared in the comedy Skin Deep with John Ritter. Her television appearances include: Modern Family, Mad Men, Grey's Anatomy and Bones, to Matlock, L.A., Murder, She Wrote, Asher, Law, & Order, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Jordan, Numb3rs, Boston Legal, and Desperate Housewives.
