Early life
Jean was born in Mercy Hospital, San Diego, California, to mother Lori Carlson, a talent manager, and a stockbroker father who played trumpet and piano. She grew up in Ramona, Valley Center, and Carmel Valley. Jean, a piano player, began songwriting at 14 after being inspired by artists such as Queen, Rod Stewart, and Aerosmith. Jean joined a high school cover band and had her first appearance with them at the Sahara Casino on the Las Vegas Strip at age 15.
Personal life
Jean currently lives in Los Angeles, California. Her grandparents, who were also musicians, were signed to RCA Records for more than 30 years. With Fred Waring, her grandfather appeared with Perry Como and both grandparents. Mark Ballas, a professional dancer, has been involved with Dancing with the Stars since 2012. Musical career
Jean was signed to J Records while working on a debut album with Dallas Austin, The Matrix, Max Martin, and others. "You eagerly wait for a multi-talented new artist to join BC Jean after signing with J.Clive Davis, the CEO of Sony Music Entertainment. We're all thrilled that BC has chosen us as her musical home." The RCA Music Group announced on October 7, 2011, that they were disbanding a dozen labels, including J Records, and confirming that all artists from those labels, including Jean, would leave and release future music via RCA Records.
