Allan Wu (born WZhènyu, 1972) is a Chinese-American actor, host, VJ, and former model. He is perhaps best known for his appearances in three different iterations of The Amazing Race, the popular reality game show.
He was the host of 5 seasons of AXN Asia's The Amazing Race Asia, three seasons of International Channel Shanghai's The Amazing Race: China Rush and four seasons of Shenzhen Media Group's Chinese version of The Amazing Race. Wu decided to change his Chinese name because it was similar to Hong Kong film actor Francis Ng (W Zhènyù).
Early life and education
Wu was born in Los Angeles, California, United States, to Chinese immigrant parents from Shenyang, Liaoning, China. When his parents spoke it at home, Mandarin became his first language. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, California, and spent many years in the biotechnology industry. After an accident that forced him to reassess his life, he eventually discovered his desire to be an actor. He did some modeling for a while, and he also appeared in an episode of the reality competition series Fear Factor, where he placed second in second place. He moved to Hong Kong, where he worked as an actor.
Personal life
Wu and his family were relocated to Shanghai, China, in September 2011, to be nearer to work commitments.
Wu was married to former Mediacorp actress Wong Li Lin, and the couple have a daughter Sage and son Jonas. Sage was 1 and a half years older than Jonas, and she was born in 2004 when he was born in 2006. Fly Entertainment is handling the couple. Career
Despite being unable to know Cantonese, MTV Taiwan gave him a stint as a VJ, during which he co-hosted a Christmas performance. On Channel 8, he moved to Singapore and began acting in a Chinese language drama.
He has been the host of The Amazing Race Asia for five seasons. He is also the host of The Amazing Race: China Rush, the Chinese version of The Amazing Race. Allan Wu of the American version of The Amazing Race made a cameo appearance in Singapore, giving out clues.
