Beeny was born in Reading, Berkshire, on January 9, 1972, to Richard and Ann. Beeny has a younger brother, Diccon. Bovis Homes' daughter loved the freedom of living outdoors. The family lived in two converted brick cottages on the edge of the Duke of Wellington's estate at Stratfield Saye, Hampshire, in a style that Beeny describes as "a little like The Good Life." The family raised goats, chickens, and ducks, while her father made dolls-house furniture to raise extra funds. Beeny has referred to her family as "crafty-entrepreneurial but more crafty than entrepreneurial."
Beeny's mother died of breast cancer at the age of 39 when she was ten years old, she was educated as a weekly boarder at the all-girls Luckley-Oakfield School in Wokingham. Although Beeny's friends went to university, she did not; she was encouraged to study drama by her English tutor and played a leading role in Brecht's Caucasian Chalk Circle. She pursued the ambition of becoming a professional actor but she was unable to enroll in a drama class.
Beeny went around the world solo at the age of 17 and found herself "lonely and seasick" the majority of the time round. She returned to the United Kingdom to work for Save the Children; window-cleaning; door-to-door vacuum cleaner-selling; and running her own sandwich-making operation. Assuming she will be self-employed for the remainder of her life, she will investigate the property market on weekends, giving her a solid grounding in the market. Beeny and her brother and his husband started their own property-development company after saving up a deposit without formal education. Beeny is also the co-founder of MySingleFriend.com, a UK dating website.
