Career

Ray began her career as a professional dancer with numerous bands, including Will Smith, the Backstreet Boys, Peter Andre, Brandy Norwood, and late singer Aaliyah. She began acting and guest starring on television shows such as The Wayans Bros., Living Single, NYPD Blue, and Family Matters. She also appeared on music-focused television shows including Soul Train, Motown Live and the short-lived late night talk show based on Vibe.

She appeared as a motion capture figure, giving the voice and body movements of "Cyber Lucy," the computer-animated hostess for the children's version of Wheel of Fortune, Wheel of Fortune 2000. She was also the official voice of CBS Saturday Mornings during this time. She then hosted numerous TV shows, including Robotica co-hosted by Ahmet Zappa for TLC and Lifetime Now with Linda Dano for Lifetime TV. Ray hosted another show on Lifetime, entitled Head2Toe, after several seasons of Lifetime Now.

Ray became a New York reporter for the entertainment magazine show Extra in 2004 (TV series). After two years she was promoted to the host of Extra's Weekend Show and then moved to Los Angeles. In 2009, she left Extra. On the CW, Ray Next hosted TBS Weekend Extra on TBS and CWNOW. She hosted For the Love of Ray J. after leaving college. 2 Reunion Special for VH1, a one-hour special on the film Precious for TV Guide Network and TV Guide's Oscar Pre-Show On the Red Carpet and a one-hour special on Sex and the City 2.

On CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News Channel, she appears regularly as a guest panelist on Showbiz Tonight. She also appeared on HGTV's Design Star on season seven.

In an Instagram post from Wednesday, Tanika Ray, who was previously a backup dancer for Diddy, claimed to have experienced a 'horrific' event when doing his job in the mid-1990s. The former Extra host, 52, made the admission after watching journalist and television commentator Touré, 53, say on Joy Reid's MSNBC show that he was on good enough terms with Diddy to ask the record label head to bring his nephew as an intern. However, he went on to claim that the rapper fired the male family member after reportedly begged him to spend the night with him.
