Susan McFadden (born 8 February 1983) is an Irish actress and singer.

Sandy in Grease and Elle Woods' Legally Blonde the Musical in London's West End, as well as being a member of Celtic Woman from 2012 to 2018.

Early life

Susan McFadden was born in Dublin, Ireland, to parents Mairead and Brendan. She is the younger sibling of former Westlife member Brian McFadden.

Personal life

Anthony Byrne, a former bagpiper of Celtic Woman, is married to McFadden. Joanie Byrne, their first child, was born in November 2018. Mikey Byrne, their second child, was born in May 2021.

Career

McFadden is a graduate of Dublin's Billie Barry Stage School. She appeared in supporting roles with several Irish entertainers (including June Rodgers).

She was one of the dancers in Daniel O'Donnell's Rock & Roll Show tour and DVD. Kathy played Kathy in an Irish production of Singing in the Rain in 2004 to acclaim. The performance was held at the Olympia Theatre in Dublin and the Everyman Palace Theatre in Cork.

Grease Is the Word, an ITV reality TV show, made her the champion contestant. As a result, she appeared in Sandy in Danny Bayne's West End production of Grease beginning in August 2007.

McFadden recorded two songs on the CD Act One – Songs From Alexander S. Bermange, an album of 20 brand new recordings by 26 West End actors which was released on Dress Circle Records in November 2008.

Milly was the leading lady in the 2008 UK tour of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, opposite Steven Houghton.

In the final of RTÉ One's Fame: The Musical in Dublin on Sunday, McFadden performed with Ben Morris and Séan Carey.

After starting the role of Serena in the original West End cast of the musical Legally Blonde at the Savoy Theatre in London's West End, McFadden appeared in Elle Woods' original West End cast. Official reviews and audience reactions were extremely positive. McFadden debuted on October 25th and was the alternate Elle, appearing on Mondays and Tuesdays, beginning on October 25th. McFadden began playing Elle Woods full time on January 10, 2011 and left the role on July 9, 2011, and has been selected for a WhatsOnStage award for "best takeover." Elle Carley Stenson, a former Margott and understudy, was then promoted to her role.
