Sung Yu-ri Career

Career

Sung began her entertainment career in 1998 as the youngest member of the four-member K-pop girl group Fin.K.L (which stood for "Fine Killing Liberty), one of the first Korean idol groups. Fin.K.L. released four albums (Blue Rain (1998), White (1999), Now (2001), Eternity (2002)), and several singles, live concert albums, and compilation albums followed the series. But after the release of their fourth album, Sung and his bandmates Ock Joohyun, Lee Hyori, and Lee Jin began doing solo gigs.

Sung made her acting debut with Bad Girls in 2002 and then appeared in her first leading role in Thousand Years of Love (2003). In her role as a Baekje princess whose time travels to modern-day South Korea, Sung learned horseback riding and martial arts. This was followed by the romantic comedy First Love of a Royal Prince (2004), which partially shot in Japan and Bali, in which Sung's fun-loving sandwich shop delivery girl was a departure from her earlier feminine roles. She was chastised for her behavior during this period.

Sung graduated from Kyung Hee University with a degree in Theater and Film in February 2005; she also received an Award for publicizing her alma mater. Fin.K.L's digital single Corealism, a brief return to music in late 2005, she decided to concentrate solely on her acting career after a brief time with Fin.K.L's Corealism. All Fin.K.L members left their company DSP Entertainment, and Sung joined Sidus Headquarters in June 2005, in keeping with this. She appeared in One Fine Day and The Snow Queen in 2006, starring an orphanage adopted by a wealthy but suffocating family, and a cold-hearted heiress with an incurable disease.

However, it was in 2008, a fusion-period dramedy Hong Gil-dong that changed how the industry perceived Sung as an actress. At first, the Hong sisters' screenwriters were furious for casting her, but they later defended Sung, and her portrayal of a tomboyish, vanity-free outlaw gained a positive response from viewers.

Sung then appeared in Swallow the Sun, a 2009 big-budget action-romance film starring overseas location shoots in Las Vegas and South Africa, with a young show director. In the same year, she appeared in her first big-screen role as a Korean-American adoptee who returns to her native country to look for her biological mother in Maybe (titled Rabbit and Lizard in Korean).

Sung left SidusHQ in 2011 and moved to King Kong Entertainment. She debuted in Romance Town as a maid who earns a whopping £14 billion in the lottery and keeps it a mystery from her boss and fellow household help. A more traditional melodrama will be shown at Feast of the Gods (2012), a celebration of two rival female chefs of Korean royal court cuisine. Sung returned to screen with former Hong Gil-dong co-star Kang Ji-hwan in the action-comedy film Runway Cop, which revolves around a detective who goes undercover as a fashion model for a drug case.

In 2013, she was a genius with psychogenic amnesia in The Secret of Birth. Sung played the titular character in A Boy's Sister, a low-budget indie, who is still mourning over her brother's death. Aren't You Happy, Han Hye-jin, was one of the hosts of talk show Healing Camp later this year.

When Sung's time with King Kong Entertainment came to an end in January 2014, she joined Fantagio. She appeared for free in the short film Chorogi and the Stalker Guy, which opened at the Seoul International Extreme-Short Film Festival for the 6th time (SESIFF). In the 2015 omnibus Summer Snow, Sung next played a diva actress who mistakenly loses for her faithful boss.

Sung signed a sole deal with SL Entertainment on April 20, 2015. She appeared in the revenge melodrama Monster for the second time.
