Career

Before Song debuted as an actress, she was a model for Kiki Magazine. She chose "Song Ji-hyo" as her stage name because she was inspired by the two main protagonists of Autumn in My Heart, Song Seung-heon and Song Hye-kyo. "And I Love You" and JTL's "Just Say Goodbye" were among Lee Soo-young's "And I Love You" and JTL's "Just Say Goodbye" songs. She made a cameo appearance in the television series Age of Innocence.

After beating out 3000 actors in an audition, Song made her debut in Wishing Stairs (2003), the third installment of the horror Whispering Correspondence film series. At the 24th Blue Dragon Film Awards, she was nominated for Best New Actress for her role in the film. She appeared in the crime drama Any (2004), where she appeared as a reporter.

Song appeared in Princess Hours (2006), where she appeared as a ballet dancer aspiring to be a ballerina. The series became well-known in Asia, contributing to the Korean Wave. In the same year, she appeared as Lady Ye So-ya, Jumong's first wife and King Yuri's mother in Jumong's historic television series Jumong (2006). The series was a commercial hit, with the highest viewership ratings of all Korean dramas that aired in 2006. Song performed well during her debut at the 43rd Baeksang Arts Awards for her performance.

Song appeared in Sex Is Zero 2 (2005), the sequel to Sex Is Zero (2002) opposite Im Chang-jung, for the following year. Inkigayo, she also co-hosted SBS' music show Inkigayo, alongside Heechul of Super Junior from 11 November 2007 to May 2008. In Yoo Ha's film A Frozen Flower (2008), the queen appeared alongside Jo In-sung and Joo Jin-mo. The film was one of 2008's highest-grossing films, and it culminated in increased exposure for Song. "I didn't want to do this film because nudity wasn't the primary issue," she later described about the film and her nude scenes. How much I expose is irrelevant to me; I imagine without that scene, it would be difficult to capture the subtle shifts in emotions. What mattered to me at the time was that I was focusing on my facial expressions rather than the director's intended message."

Since 2010, Song has been a participant in the urban action variety show Running Man. She was asked to join by PD Kim Joo-hyung, also known as Myeok PD, who worked with her while hosting Inkigayo. She appeared on the program from episode 2 to episode 5 and then became a regular participant in episode 6.

After her time with Namoo Actors, Song signed with C-JeS Entertainment in early 2011 and appeared in Choo Chang-min's film Late Blossom (2011). Kang Full, a web cartoonist, based the film I Love You. She appeared in the police procedural television series Detectives in Trouble (2011), where she appeared as a reporter. She appeared in Gyebaek (2011) as the Queen of King Uija later this year. She was appointed as the Minister of Education's promotional ambassador in November along with label-mates JYJ. Song co-starred in the JYJ's action comedy Code Name: Jackal (2012), in which she starred as a clumsy assassin.

Song appeared in dubbing for the animated film Maritime Police Marco (2013) with fellow Running Man actor Lee Kwang-soo, and in Park Hoon-jung's crime film New World (2013). In the historical television series The Fugitive of Joseon (2013), she also appeared opposite Lee Dong-wook as a royal nurse.

Choi Jin-hyuk co-starring Songs, who plays a divorced medical intern who experiences an ugly divorce at an emergency room. In addition, Song collaborated with NBA on "NBA X Song Ji Hyo," a game in which she unveiled her own cap series called "CHO.2." Song appeared in the romantic comedy Ex-Girlfriends' Club opposite Byun Yo-han as a film director in 2015. She also appeared in Taiwanese singer and actress Kenji Wu's "You Are So Cute" and appeared in it.

In 2016, Song appeared alongside Taiwanese actor Chen Bolin in the Chinese version of We Got Married. Song appeared in two Chinese films, the romantic drama 708090 with Kenji Wu, and the action comedy Super Express. She made her small-screen comeback by appearing in the remake of a Japanese television series Listen to Love co-starring Lee Sun-kyun. After completing her employment with C-JeS Entertainment in December, Song signed with My Company, a talent firm.

Songs Ji-hyo's Beauty View With Gong Myung co-hosted the beauty show in 2017. Jo Woo-jin appeared in the web series 29gram and appeared in Chief B and the Love Letter co-starring Jo Woo-jin. In December 2017, Song produced and launched I Am Jyo Unnie, her first own reality show.

Song appeared in the romantic comedy film What a Man Wants in 2018 starring Lee Sung-min, Shin Ha-kyun, and Lee El. Beautiful Life, a beauty service run by Song Ji Hyo, and a reality show Pajama Friends are among her appearances. Lovely Horribly alongside Park Si-hooo, which premiered in August, was also cast in the romance horror film Lovely Horribly. Song appeared in Ma Dong-seok's action thriller Unstoppable.

In 2019, Song appeared in the mystery thriller film Intruder starring Kim Mu-yeol. After her My Company's deal came to an end in September, Song joined Creative Group ING in October. Song was portrayed as the female lead of JTBC's drama in November. Is It Love? The pair, Kim Min-jun, Son Ho-jun, Song Jong-ho, and Koo Ja-sung, which premiered in July 2020, will be joined by the pair.

Song was announced as the female lead for the TV show The Witch's Diner, which premiered in 2021, on February 2nd, 2021.

On October 2022, Song began a new career with Uzurocks Entertainment.
