Career

Sivakarthikeyan performed at various cultural festivals and performed imitativity and stand-up comedy on stage throughout college. He took three months off work, and his colleagues advised him to auditions of Kalakka Povathu Yaaru, a reality show for comedy on Star Vijay, during this time. He began his career as a mimicry painter. Despite initial reluctance to participate, he won the competition. He appeared in short films including his buddy Atlee's Mugapputhagam, Identity, Kurahl 786 and 360°. Sivakarthikeyan was spotted by the designers of Aegan and offered him a supporting role, but his numbers didn't make it to the final cut.

Pandiraj, the filmmaker, approached him to act in his film Marina and Sivakarthikeyan, which was signed. He was ready for his first role by paying close attention to Pandiraj's instructions and visiting Marina Beach extensively to investigate the locals, while still wishing that his natural talent of humour would shine through on film. Siva's role as a young couple in the film was well received by a reviewer who said that "the romance adds colour to a monochrome film" while the writer also noted that "the role of Senthilnathan requires Siva to be just himself," according to a critic.

Aishwarya Dhanush had signed up to act as Dhanush's companion in a supporting role before Marina's promotion, after being impressed with his work on stage as a host. Following significant pre-release hype, the film opened to predominantly positive reviews, with critics applauding Sivakarthikeyan's contribution to comedy in a serious film. The initiative also marked the start of a relationship with Dhanush, whom Sivakarthikeyan has often said is his mentor in the film industry. He was next seen in Ezhil's romantic comedy Manam Kothi Paravai, which opened to mixed reviews but had a good run at the box office.

In 2013, he appeared in three films. Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga, a dual hero coming-of-age film, partnered with Pandiraj once more, shooting for the film in Tiruchirappalli with Vimal.
